Yale Unity Entrance Smart Lock Fire Rated - Silver
The Yale Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated is a keyless digital smart lock designed for fire-door applications. It has been successfully tested for 2 hours on fire door assemblies in accordance with Australian Standard AS1905.1-2015 (Fire Resistant Doorsets), making it suited to apartment entry and office doors. This listing is the Silver finish - the Fire Rated version is available in Silver only.
An inbuilt LED shows the lock status in two modes - Unlock (green) and Locked (yellow). To meet fire-door egress requirements, the Secure-mode digital deadlocking used on the standard Unity Entrance Lock is disabled on the Fire Rated version.
The Fire Rated Lock runs on the Yale Home App (available on iOS and Android) ![]()
, giving you app control, one-time and scheduled guest access, and a 24/7 activity trail. It ships with two Yale Contactless Key Tags, and PIN or fingerprint access can be added with the Yale Smart Keypad 2 (sold separately). Using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS with the app, the auto-unlock feature releases the door as you approach, and an inbuilt door position sensor confirms whether the door is open or closed.
For remote lock and unlock from anywhere - plus Apple HomeKit, Google, Samsung and Amazon Alexa integration - add the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2 (sold separately). The lock is 100% keyfree on a 60-70mm backset 530 latch platform, and is ready to install out of the box - no additional fire kit and no changes to the standard Unity Entrance door preparation are required. It is also available with an AS1428.1 DDA-compliant lever.
360-degree interactive model - click and drag with your mouse to spin the lock in any direction.
Usually ships same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excludes Queensland public holidays).
The Yale Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated has been successfully tested for up to 2 hours on most popular fire door assemblies to Australian Standard AS1905.1-2015 (Fire Resistant Doorsets). It is ready to install out of the box - no separate fire kit is required and no changes to the Unity Entrance door preparation are needed. Secure Mode is disabled on this version to suit fire-door egress. The lock is also BAL-40 bushfire rated (AS1530.8.1-2007). For an accessible fire door, choose the Fire Rated with DDA Lever version. Background: Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks and AS1905.1 explained.

Battery, Power & Backup Access
- Powered by 4 x AA alkaline batteries, included in the box.
- Battery life is approximately 12 months depending on daily usage.
- A low-battery warning is given at 20% remaining, so batteries can be changed before they are depleted.
- The lock is 100% keyfree - there is no mechanical cylinder or backup key. Enrol more than one credential type (app plus key tag) so you always have a second way in.
- Backup power is supported - the door can be powered temporarily (USB-C emergency power, per Yale's range comparison) if the batteries are fully depleted. Confirm the exact method with Yale or Terry's.
Remote Access & DualDoor (Connect Plus Hub 2 Required)
Out of the box the Unity Entrance Lock works over Bluetooth with the Yale Home App at the door, and is Apple HomeKit compatible. To lock, unlock, change PIN codes and manage user access from anywhere - and to enable Google Home, Samsung SmartThings and Amazon Alexa voice control - pair the lock with the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2 (YAR/SWAA/HUB/-I-D, sold separately). The hub connects to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. If your router merges 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands this can cause drop-offs - see our guide to Wi-Fi band steering and gateway placement.
The Connect Plus Hub 2 also unlocks DualDoor - a single command opens both your Yale Unity Security Screen Door Lock and this entrance lock together. See Dual Unlock explained.
ASSA ABLOY has issued an Australian Cyber Security Declaration for the Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated (YUR/DEL/FR/SIL): Declaration Cyber-AU-00009, firmware V1.0.11, with a 3-year product support period, covering the Yale Home app for iOS and Android. The full declaration is available in the PDF Files tab. Download the Cyber Security Declaration (PDF).
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The Yale Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated is successfully tested for up to 2 hours on fire-door assemblies to AS1905.1-2015 (Fire Resistant Doorsets), and it installs straight out of the box - no separate fire kit and no changes to the standard Unity Entrance door preparation. Always confirm the whole assembly (leaf, frame, hinges, seals, closer) is certified for the rating you need. See Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks and our fire-rated certification test reports.
On the standard Unity Entrance Lock, Secure mode digitally deadlocks both handles. On the Fire Rated version this is disabled so the door always meets fire-door egress requirements - anyone inside can always get out. As a result the LED shows two modes only: Unlock (green) and Locked (yellow). If you need Secure-mode deadlocking and your door is not a fire door, choose the standard Yale Unity Entrance Lock.
No - not to operate. Out of the box it runs over Bluetooth with the Yale Home App at the door and is Apple HomeKit compatible. Add the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2 (sold separately) only for remote control from anywhere and Google/Alexa/Siri voice. The hub joins your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; if the lock drops off, see why smart locks drop off Wi-Fi.
Yes. The lock is app and key-tag operated at the door, and you can add the Yale Smart Keypad 2 (sold separately) for PIN and fingerprint, or the Yale Smart Keypad for PIN only. The keypad pairs wirelessly and mounts outside with no hard-wiring. Credentials compared in Chapter 03 - Access Methods.
The Fire Rated lock is 100% keyfree, so there is no mechanical key. It runs on 4 x AA batteries (about 12 months) and warns you in good time. If they do run down, a USB-C power-up port at the bottom of the front body lets you power the lock momentarily from a phone (with a USB-C to USB adapter) or a USB-C power bank and enter as normal. Background: the realities of electronic door locks.
Additional Information
Tested to AS1905.1-2015 for up to 2 hours, this lock installs without a separate fire kit or changes to the Unity Entrance door preparation, and the Yale Unity Installation Template, door position sensor and magnet are all compatible. When specifying for a fire door, confirm the entire assembly - leaf, frame, hinges, seals and any closer - is certified for the required rating, and check whether a scar plate is needed. Reference test certificates: fire-rated certification reports; and before drilling Gold Coast apartment fire doors, read our note on asbestos risk.
The Fire Rated Unity is certified to AS1905.1-2015 (2-hour fire), BAL-40 bushfire level (AS1530.8.1), and SL8 Security / D8 Durability under AS4145.2.2008, and carries the RCM. Fire-rated locks are typically required on apartment and strata entry doors under the one-penetration principle - see which apartment fire-door locks are compliant and the one-penetration principle. For an accessible fire door, the Fire Rated with DDA Lever adds an AS1428.1 lever (Chapter 09 - DDA).
The lock monitors for tampering and forced-entry attempts and raises an alert. Because Yale is an ASSA ABLOY brand (not a TTLock lock), the alarm is genuine hardware - not the phantom alerts some TTLock locks produce. A triggered alarm (including a false trigger while installing) can be silenced from the Yale Home App, and every event is logged in the 24/7 activity trail. See tamper alert and phantom alerts.
Unlike Yale's Assure Lock series (which accepts plug-in Zigbee and Z-Wave Network Modules), the Unity Entrance connects over Bluetooth at the door and reaches the internet, voice and remote control through the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2. Connectivity options explained: Yale Network Modules, Zigbee and Z-Wave.
This is the fire-door member of the Yale Unity Entrance Series. For a non-fire door, choose the standard Unity Entrance Lock (Silver) or Matt Black, which keep Secure-mode deadlocking; for an accessible fire door, the Fire Rated with DDA Lever; and for narrow aluminium or timber-framed doors, the Unity Slim. Overview: Yale smart locks guide and the Yale brand profile.
Genuine Yale products bought new in Australia from authorised retailers are covered against defects in materials and workmanship for:
- Mechanical parts: 10 years
- Electrical and electronic components: 3 years (batteries excluded)
- Keys: 12 months
Yale Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated - FAQ, Compliance and Owner's Guide
A deep reference for the Yale Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated (Silver, SKU YUR/DEL/FR/SIL) covering fire and bushfire certification, egress, access, remote control, power, door fit and installation, the Yale Home App and troubleshooting. It reworks the official Yale Unity Entrance, Connect Plus Hub 2, Home Module and Yale Home App support guides for Australian buyers. For general questions see Chapter 13 - Smart Lock FAQ and the Ultimate Smart Lock Buyer's Guide.
Fire, Bushfire and Certification
It is successfully tested for up to 2 hours on fire-door assemblies to AS1905.1-2015 (Fire Resistant Doorsets), and installs ready to use with no separate fire kit and no change to the standard Unity Entrance door preparation. Detail: Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks.
No - the lock is one certified component. The complete doorset (leaf, frame, hinges, seals and any closer) must also be certified for the rating you need. Learn how fire doors are classified in fire door types and certification, and see the fire-rated test reports.
The Fire Rated Unity is also certified to BAL-40 bushfire level (AS1530.8.1) and to SL8 Security and D8 Durability under AS4145.2.2008, and carries the RCM. Standards explained: Chapter 11 - Australian Standards.
Most commonly on apartment and strata entry doors, where the door is a rated fire door and the one-penetration principle limits how it can be drilled. See which apartment fire-door locks are compliant, the one-penetration principle, and how it applies to smart locks.
On Gold Coast apartments built before the 1990s, fire doors can contain asbestos, so a survey before drilling is wise. Read asbestos in apartment fire doors and what to do next.
Sometimes - a scar plate covers old hardware cut-outs so the new lock sits cleanly, and fire doors have specific requirements. See scar plates on fire doors.
Yes - the Unity Entrance Fire Rated with DDA Lever adds an AS1428.1-2009 compliant lever for accessibility on the same fire-rated platform. Background: Chapter 09 - DDA and NDIS and DDA smart locks for NDIS housing.
Locking, Egress and LED Modes
Secure mode digitally deadlocks both handles, which would block egress. On a fire door that is not allowed, so Secure mode is disabled and the inside handle can always open the door - a fire-safety requirement, not a limitation.
The internal electronic snib (button) gives one-touch locking and unlocking from inside; press it for passage mode on short trips out. It moves the lock to Locked (yellow), not Secure - deadlocking is disabled on the Fire Rated model. Why the internal snib needs care in general: the perils of the internal snib.
Two modes on the Fire Rated version: Unlock (green) and Locked (yellow). The red Secure state seen on the standard Unity Entrance does not apply here because deadlocking is disabled.
Auto-lock can relock after the door closes, and the door position sensor confirms the door is actually shut first, so it will not try to lock against an open door.
Access and Credentials
At the door: the Yale Home App over Bluetooth, and Contactless Key Tag (two included); it is also Apple HomeKit compatible. Add the Smart Keypad 2 for PIN and fingerprint, or the Smart Keypad for PIN only. It is 100% keyfree.
Enrol tags in the Yale Home App under the lock's credentials; extra Contactless Key Tags are available. Most standard Mifare cards can be enrolled, though some secured cards are locked to their issuing system.
The Yale Home App on iOS or Android (broadly iOS 11+ and Android 8+ with Bluetooth 4.0), supporting the two most recent versions of each. Platform help: Chapter 15 - Yale Home and which platform is right for you.
Remote Access, Voice and the Connect Plus Hub 2
The Yale Connect Plus Hub 2 bridges the lock to the internet for remote lock/unlock and user management from anywhere, live activity and low-battery alerts while away, and Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Siri voice control. Without it, the activity feed only updates when an owner next connects over Bluetooth.
A 2.4 GHz network. The Unity Entrance is not Z-Wave or Zigbee - it uses Bluetooth plus the hub; for a Z-Wave/Zigbee home, Yale's Assure series takes plug-in Network Modules instead. See Yale Network Modules explained and Chapter 08 - Gateways.
Yes - DualDoor is a Unity-series feature: with the hub, one action unlocks both a Yale Unity Screen Door Lock and your entry lock. How it works: Dual Unlock explained; check screen-door clearance first.
Power, Batteries and Resets
Four AA batteries, typically about 12 months, with a low-battery warning in good time. It is 100% keyfree, so keep fresh batteries and more than one way in. Battery-life realities: the realities of electronic door locks.
Use the USB-C power-up port at the bottom of the front body: power the lock momentarily from a phone (with a USB-C to USB adapter) or a USB-C power bank, then enter as normal. Hold the connector firmly in the port while powering up.
The soft reset button by the USB-C port restarts the lock without wiping settings - the first thing to try for a Bluetooth glitch, and doable from outside. A factory reset (from the Yale Home App) erases all owner and guest data and removes the lock from any keychain; for a previously-owned lock you cannot reset, Yale support can help the original owner release it. Reset walkthrough for the sister Unity model: Unity troubleshooting and reset guide.
Door Fit, Handing and Installation
Standard hinged entry doors 35-60 mm thick on a 60-70 mm backset, using the Yale 530 latch (the 70 mm backset latch, Y530-222SC, is sold separately for 70 mm doors). Measure first: Chapter 02 - backset and how to measure backset.
Both handles are reversible: hold down the metal slide tab on the inside of each handle and rotate to your chosen hand; the inside and outside handles must be set the same way. New to handing? See door handing in Australia.
It installs out of the box - no fire kit, no door-prep changes. Hand both handles first; choose the right spindle for the door thickness (extensions for doors over 40 mm) with matching screws; feed the Door Position Sensor cable through the door-edge hole and line the magnet up in the jamb; do not close the door until the batteries are in and tested. Pitfalls: 3 DIY installation mistakes and Chapter 12 - Installation and Troubleshooting. Prefer it done for you? site survey and installation.
Yale Home App Essentials
Permanent access for the household, Recurring/scheduled access (a cleaner every Tuesday), Temporary date-range access for visitors, and one-time access - all without a physical key, and all logged. Suits short-stay and rental turnovers.
Auto-unlock uses Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS geofencing (Home and Away modes) so the door releases as you arrive, hands-free. It needs the Yale Home App running with location enabled, and works best once you have genuinely left the home geofence and are returning. It can be switched off.
Create Smart Alerts (lock/unlock, entry-code use, door-ajar with the sensor, low battery) and set each user as Owner or Guest with their own schedule. Voice control (Alexa, Google, Siri) is available once the Hub 2 is added.
Troubleshooting
Open the Yale Home App, connect over Bluetooth and dismiss the alarm from the lock screen; the event stays in the activity trail. A false trigger while handling or installing is normal and clears the same way.
The Door Position Sensor needs recalibration or the magnet is out of alignment. Re-run door-position calibration in the app and check the jamb magnet lines up with the sensor in the door edge.
Usually the spindles are not fully engaged into the latch during assembly. Re-seat them correctly - forcing a misaligned spindle can damage the lock.
Try the soft reset button next to the USB-C port to restart the lock, and toggle Bluetooth off and on on your phone. If you hear a grinding sound and error beep, stop and check the handing and spindle engagement before retrying.
Suitability and Placement
No. It is IP54 for entry doors and must not be used where the internal escutcheon is exposed to the weather, such as an open gate - fit it to a covered entry or fire door. IP ratings explained: Chapter 11 - IP ratings.
Salt air is the main enemy of exterior hardware. Rinse and wipe the external face periodically; note coastal corrosion is commonly excluded from warranties. See coastal lifespan notes and the realities of electronic locks.
