Yale Unity Entrance Smart Lock Fire Rated with DDA Lever

The Yale Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated with DDA Lever is a keyless digital smart lock for accessible fire-door applications. The lever is DDA-compliant certified and designed in accordance with Australian Standard AS1428.1-2009 (Design for Access and Mobility), and the lock has been successfully tested for 2 hours on fire door assemblies to AS1905.1-2015 (Fire Resistant Doorsets). This listing is the Silver finish - this version is available in Silver only.

An inbuilt LED shows the lock status in two modes - Unlock (green) and Locked (yellow). To meet fire-door egress requirements, the Secure-mode digital deadlocking used on the standard Unity Entrance Lock is disabled on the Fire Rated versions.

The lock runs on the Yale Home App (iOS and Android) iOS App StoreAndroid Google Play, giving you app control, one-time and scheduled guest access, and a 24/7 activity trail. It ships with two Yale Contactless Key Tags, and PIN or fingerprint access can be added with the Yale Smart Keypad 2 (sold separately). Using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS with the app, auto-unlock releases the door as you approach, and an inbuilt door position sensor confirms whether the door is open or closed.

For remote lock and unlock from anywhere - plus Apple HomeKit, Google, Samsung and Amazon Alexa integration - add the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2 (sold separately). The lock is 100% keyfree on a 60-70mm backset 530 latch platform, and is ready to install out of the box - no additional fire kit and no changes to the standard Unity Entrance door preparation are required. If you do not need the accessible lever, the standard Fire Rated version is the same lock with a standard lever; for a non-fire door, see the standard Unity Entrance Lock.

360-degree interactive model - click and drag with your mouse to spin the lock in any direction.

Battery, Power & Backup Access

  • Powered by 4 x AA alkaline batteries, included in the box.
  • Battery life is approximately 12 months depending on daily usage.
  • A low-battery warning is given at 20% remaining, so batteries can be changed before they are depleted.
  • The lock is 100% keyfree - there is no mechanical cylinder or backup key. Enrol more than one credential type (app plus key tag) so you always have a second way in.
  • Backup power is supported - the door can be powered temporarily (USB-C emergency power, per Yale's range comparison) if the batteries are fully depleted. Confirm the exact method with Yale or Terry's.

Remote Access & DualDoor (Connect Plus Hub 2 Required)

Out of the box the Unity Entrance Lock works over Bluetooth with the Yale Home App at the door, and is Apple HomeKit compatible. To lock, unlock, change PIN codes and manage user access from anywhere - and to enable Google Home, Samsung SmartThings and Amazon Alexa voice control - pair the lock with the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2 (YAR/SWAA/HUB/-I-D, sold separately). The hub connects to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. If your router merges 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands this can cause drop-offs - see our guide to Wi-Fi band steering and gateway placement.

The Connect Plus Hub 2 also unlocks DualDoor - a single command opens both your Yale Unity Security Screen Door Lock and this entrance lock together. See Dual Unlock explained.

Cyber Security Declaration
ASSA ABLOY has issued an Australian Cyber Security Declaration for the Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated: Declaration Cyber-AU-00009, firmware V1.0.11, with a 3-year product support period, covering the Yale Home app for iOS and Android. This DDA-lever version shares the same electronics and app (only the lever differs), so the Fire Rated declaration applies. It is available in the PDF Files tab. Download the Cyber Security Declaration (PDF).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the lever accessibility (DDA) compliant?
Yes. This version fits an accessible lever certified to AS1428.1-2009, shaped for easy one-handed operation without tight grasping or twisting, which makes it suited to NDIS and SDA housing, aged care and accessible entries. It carries the same fire rating as the standard Fire Rated model. Accessibility context: Chapter 09 - DDA and NDIS and DDA smart locks for NDIS housing.
Is this lock certified for fire doors, and do I need a separate fire kit?
Yes. It is successfully tested for up to 2 hours on fire-door assemblies to AS1905.1-2015, and installs out of the box - no separate fire kit and no change to the standard Unity Entrance door preparation. Always confirm the whole assembly (leaf, frame, hinges, seals, closer) is certified for the rating you need. See Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks and our fire-rated test reports.
Does it need Wi-Fi or a hub to work?
No - not to operate. Out of the box it runs over Bluetooth with the Yale Home App at the door and is Apple HomeKit compatible. Add the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2 (sold separately) only for remote control from anywhere and Google/Alexa/Siri voice. The hub joins your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; if the lock drops off, see why smart locks drop off Wi-Fi.
Can I add a PIN code or fingerprint?
Yes. The lock is app and key-tag operated at the door, and you can add the Yale Smart Keypad 2 (sold separately) for PIN and fingerprint, or the Yale Smart Keypad for PIN only - both mount outside with no hard-wiring. A keypad can be a helpful second method alongside the accessible lever. Credentials compared in Chapter 03 - Access Methods.
What happens if the batteries go flat - there is no key?
The lock is 100% keyfree (no fiddly key to manage), runs on 4 x AA batteries (about 12 months) and warns you in good time. If they do run down, a USB-C power-up port at the bottom of the front body lets you power the lock momentarily from a phone (with a USB-C to USB adapter) or a USB-C power bank and enter as normal. Background: the realities of electronic door locks.

Additional Information

The accessible (DDA) lever
This model swaps the standard lever for an accessible lever certified to AS1428.1-2009, designed to be operated with a closed fist or limited hand strength - no tight grasping, pinching or wrist twisting. Combined with keyfree, app, tag and optional keypad entry, it removes the fine motor demands of a traditional key, which is why it is specified for NDIS and SDA housing, aged care and accessible commercial entries. It keeps the full fire rating of the non-DDA Fire Rated model. Funding and standards: Chapter 09 - DDA and NDIS.
Fire-door installations
Tested to AS1905.1-2015 for up to 2 hours, it installs without a separate fire kit or changes to the Unity Entrance door preparation, and the Yale Unity Installation Template, door position sensor and magnet are all compatible. When specifying for a fire door, confirm the entire assembly - leaf, frame, hinges, seals and any closer - is certified, and check whether a scar plate is needed. Reference certificates: fire-rated test reports; before drilling older apartment fire doors, read our note on asbestos risk.
Break-in and tamper alarm
The lock monitors for tampering and forced-entry attempts and raises an alert. Because Yale is an ASSA ABLOY brand (not a TTLock lock), the alarm is genuine hardware - not the phantom alerts some TTLock locks produce. A triggered alarm (including a false trigger while installing) can be silenced from the Yale Home App, and every event is logged in the 24/7 activity trail. See tamper alert and phantom alerts.
Not Z-Wave or Zigbee - Bluetooth plus the Connect Plus Hub 2
Unlike Yale's Assure Lock series (which accepts plug-in Zigbee and Z-Wave Network Modules), the Unity Entrance connects over Bluetooth at the door and reaches the internet, voice and remote control through the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2. Connectivity options explained: Yale Network Modules, Zigbee and Z-Wave.
Where the Fire Rated with DDA Lever sits in the Yale range
This is the accessible fire-door member of the Yale Unity Entrance Series. If you do not need the accessible lever, the Fire Rated (standard lever) is the same lock without DDA; for a non-fire door, the standard Unity Entrance (Silver) or Matt Black keeps Secure-mode deadlocking; and the Unity Slim suits narrow doors. Overview: Yale smart locks guide and the Yale brand profile.

Yale Unity Entrance Fire Rated with DDA Lever - FAQ, Accessibility, Compliance and Owner's Guide

A deep reference for the Yale Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated with DDA Lever (Silver, SKU YUR/DEL/FR/DDA/SIL) covering accessibility (AS1428.1), fire and bushfire certification, egress, access, remote control, power, door fit and installation, the Yale Home App and troubleshooting. It reworks the official Yale Unity Entrance, Connect Plus Hub 2, Home Module and Yale Home App support guides for Australian buyers. For general questions see Chapter 13 - Smart Lock FAQ and the Ultimate Smart Lock Buyer's Guide.

Accessibility and DDA

What makes this the DDA / accessible version?
It fits an accessible lever certified to AS1428.1-2009, shaped for easy operation with a closed fist or limited hand strength - no tight grasping, pinching or wrist twisting. Everything else matches the Fire Rated model. See Chapter 09 - DDA and NDIS.
Who is it typically specified for?
NDIS and SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) housing, aged care, disability and supported living, and accessible entries in public or commercial buildings - anywhere an accessible operable part is required on a fire door. Project guidance: which DDA lock suits your project and the DDA lock range.
Can it be funded under NDIS?
Accessible door hardware is commonly included in NDIS and SDA fit-outs; funding depends on the participant's plan and the build category. See NDIS funding for accessible smart locks and the practical NDIS guide.
Does keyfree entry help accessibility?
Yes - a physical key demands fine motor control that many users find difficult. Keyfree app, key-tag and optional keypad entry, plus the accessible lever, remove that barrier while keeping the door secure.
What is the difference between this and the non-DDA Fire Rated lock?
Only the lever. This model carries the AS1428.1 accessible lever; the Fire Rated (standard lever) is otherwise identical in fire rating, electronics and installation.

Fire, Bushfire and Certification

What fire rating does it carry?
Successfully tested for up to 2 hours on fire-door assemblies to AS1905.1-2015, installing ready to use with no separate fire kit. Detail: Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks.
Does the lock rating make the whole door compliant?
No - the complete doorset (leaf, frame, hinges, seals, closer) must also be certified for the rating you need. How fire doors are classified: fire door types and certification; test reports: fire-rated certification.
What about bushfire and security ratings?
It is also certified to BAL-40 bushfire level (AS1530.8.1) and to SL8 Security and D8 Durability (AS4145.2.2008), and carries the RCM. Standards: Chapter 11 - Australian Standards.
Where are fire-rated entry locks required, and what about drilling older doors?
Most often on apartment and strata entry doors under the one-penetration principle - see compliant apartment fire-door locks and the one-penetration principle. On pre-1990s doors, check for asbestos before drilling. Scar plates on fire doors: when they are needed.

Locking, Egress and LED Modes

Why is Secure mode disabled on this model?
Secure mode digitally deadlocks both handles, which would block egress. On a fire door that is not allowed, so it is disabled and the inside lever always opens the door - a fire-safety and accessibility requirement, not a limitation.
How do I lock it from inside?
The internal electronic snib (button) gives one-touch lock/unlock from inside; press it for passage mode on short trips out. It moves the lock to Locked (yellow), not Secure - deadlocking is disabled. Why the internal snib needs care generally: the perils of the internal snib.
What do the LED colours mean?
Two modes on this version: Unlock (green) and Locked (yellow). The red Secure state used on the standard Unity Entrance does not apply, because deadlocking is disabled.

Access and Credentials

How do I unlock it?
At the door: the Yale Home App over Bluetooth, and Contactless Key Tag (two included); it is Apple HomeKit compatible. Add the Smart Keypad 2 for PIN and fingerprint, or the Smart Keypad for PIN only. It is 100% keyfree.
Which app and phones does it use?
The Yale Home App on iOS or Android (broadly iOS 11+ and Android 8+ with Bluetooth 4.0). Platform help: Chapter 15 - Yale Home and which platform is right for you.

Remote Access, Voice and the Connect Plus Hub 2

Why add the Connect Plus Hub 2?
The Yale Connect Plus Hub 2 bridges the lock to the internet for remote lock/unlock, live activity and low-battery alerts while away, and Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Siri voice control - useful for carers or family managing access remotely. Without it, the activity feed only updates when an owner next connects over Bluetooth.
Is it Z-Wave or Zigbee, and what Wi-Fi does the hub need?
It is not Z-Wave or Zigbee - it uses Bluetooth plus the hub (2.4 GHz Wi-Fi). For a Z-Wave/Zigbee setup, Yale's Assure series takes plug-in Network Modules instead. See Yale Network Modules explained.
Can I unlock a screen door and this entry door together (DualDoor)?
Yes - with the hub, DualDoor unlocks both a Yale Unity Screen Door Lock and your entry lock in one action. How it works: Dual Unlock explained; check screen-door clearance.

Power, Batteries and Resets

How is it powered and how long do batteries last?
Four AA batteries, typically about 12 months, with a low-battery warning in good time. It is 100% keyfree, so keep fresh batteries and more than one way in. Battery-life realities: the realities of electronic door locks.
What if the batteries die and I am locked out?
Use the USB-C power-up port at the bottom of the front body: power the lock momentarily from a phone (with a USB-C to USB adapter) or a USB-C power bank, then enter as normal.
Soft reset vs factory reset?
The soft reset button by the USB-C port restarts the lock without wiping settings - the first thing to try for a Bluetooth glitch. A factory reset (from the Yale Home App) erases all owner and guest data; for a previously-owned lock you cannot reset, Yale support can help the original owner release it. Reset walkthrough for the sister Unity model: Unity troubleshooting and reset guide.

Door Fit, Handing and Installation

What door does it suit?
Standard hinged entry doors 35-60 mm thick on a 60-70 mm backset, using the Yale 530 latch (the 70 mm backset latch, Y530-222SC, is sold separately for 70 mm doors). Measure first: Chapter 02 - backset.
How do I set the handing?
Both handles are reversible: hold down the metal slide tab on the inside of each handle and rotate to your chosen hand; the inside and outside handles must be set the same way. New to handing? See door handing in Australia.
Any installation tips?
It installs out of the box - no fire kit, no door-prep changes. Hand both handles first; choose the right spindle for the door thickness (extensions for doors over 40 mm) with matching screws; feed the Door Position Sensor cable through the door-edge hole and line the magnet up in the jamb; do not close the door until the batteries are in and tested. Pitfalls: 3 DIY installation mistakes and Chapter 12. Prefer it done for you? site survey and installation.

Exploded assembly reference: how the internal and external furniture, latch, Door Position Sensor (DPS), strike box and magnet fit to the door.

Yale Home App Essentials

What types of guest and carer access can I give?
Permanent access for the household or a carer, Recurring/scheduled access (for example support workers), Temporary date-range access, and one-time access - all keyfree and all logged. Suits managed and rotating access.
How does auto-unlock work?
Auto-unlock uses Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS geofencing (Home and Away) so the door releases as you arrive, hands-free - helpful for reduced-mobility users. It needs the Yale Home App running with location enabled, and works best once you have genuinely left the geofence and are returning.
Notifications and access levels?
Create Smart Alerts (lock/unlock, entry-code use, door-ajar, low battery) and set each user as Owner or Guest with their own schedule. Voice control (Alexa, Google, Siri) is available once the Hub 2 is added.

Troubleshooting

My alarm has been triggered - how do I silence it?
Open the Yale Home App, connect over Bluetooth and dismiss the alarm from the lock screen; the event stays in the activity trail. A false trigger while handling or installing is normal and clears the same way.
The door status always shows closed even when open
The Door Position Sensor needs recalibration or the magnet is out of alignment. Re-run door-position calibration in the app and check the jamb magnet lines up with the sensor.
The latch will not retract, or the lock does not fit correctly
Usually the spindles are not fully engaged into the latch during assembly. Re-seat them correctly - forcing a misaligned spindle can damage the lock.
Bluetooth says "Unable to get status"
Try the soft reset button next to the USB-C port to restart the lock, and toggle Bluetooth off and on on your phone.

Suitability and Placement

Can I fit it outdoors or on a gate?
No. It is IP54 for entry doors and must not be used where the internal escutcheon is exposed to the weather, such as an open gate - fit it to a covered entry or fire door. IP ratings explained: Chapter 11 - IP ratings.
We are near the coast - anything to watch?
Salt air is the main enemy of exterior hardware. Rinse and wipe the external face periodically; coastal corrosion is commonly excluded from warranties. See coastal lifespan notes and the realities of electronic locks.

The summary below sets out each period, what is excluded, and how to make a claim through Gold Coast Smart Locks.

This warranty applies to genuine Yale products purchased new in Australia from ASSA ABLOY or its authorised resellers. It operates in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

How to Make a Claim

Start your claim with us
For full returns and warranty claim procedures, visit our Returns & Warranty page - this is kept up to date and is the authoritative reference for current claim steps.
  1. Keep your proof of original purchase (invoice or receipt).
  2. Contact Gold Coast Smart Locks - operated by Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries - as your authorised retailer, and follow the steps on our Returns & Warranty page.
  3. Return the product securely packed to protect it in transit, together with your proof of purchase and your name, address, email and phone number.
  4. ASSA ABLOY assesses the claim. Where the warranty applies, they will (at their option) repair the product, replace it with the same or closest equivalent Yale product, or refund the price you paid.

Claims made directly to ASSA ABLOY require a Case Number from their Customer Service Department before goods are returned - products sent back without a Case Number may not be accepted. Costs of returning a product are the customer's responsibility.

What Is Not Covered

  • Normal wear and tear.
  • Misuse, abuse, accident, or use outside Yale's published technical specifications.
  • Improper maintenance or neglect, or failure to follow ASSA ABLOY's care and maintenance recommendations.
  • Use of batteries other than those specified; batteries themselves are not covered.
  • Unauthorised alteration, modification or repair by anyone other than ASSA ABLOY authorised personnel.
  • Custom orders made to components or specifications supplied by someone other than ASSA ABLOY.
  • Goods that were not new when purchased, second-hand goods, or products not originally sold in Australia through ASSA ABLOY or an authorised reseller.
  • Products with brands, marks, plates, numbers or other ASSA ABLOY information defaced or removed.
  • Use of substitute, replacement or non-genuine ASSA ABLOY parts or cylinders.
  • Corrosive exposure, including vapours, chemicals, abrasive compounds, contamination, pollution, coastal air, salt spray and high humidity.
  • Removal, refitment or replacement of products, and any associated charges.

Important Notes

Batteries, finishes and stainless steel
Batteries are consumable and are not covered. Cosmetic finishes and appearance are excluded. Stainless steel resists staining but is not stain-proof - tea staining is a natural process and is not covered where cleaning and maintenance guidelines have not been followed.
Coastal and corrosive environments
Damage from salt spray, coastal air, high humidity and other corrosives is excluded. In Gold Coast and coastal locations, choose a suitable finish and follow the care and maintenance guidance to protect your hardware and preserve your cover.

Your Rights Under the Australian Consumer Law

In addition to this warranty
This manufacturer's warranty is in addition to other rights and remedies you may have under the law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
