Yale 530 Series Tubular Deadlatch - 70mm Backset - Satin Chrome

The Yale 530 Series Tubular Deadlatch is a heavy-duty mechanical latch prepared for a 70mm backset. It is the 70mm latch supplied separately for the Yale Unity Entrance Lock range, and it is the same 530-platform latch used across Lockwood 530, 930 and 950 door hardware. It carries the 8mm square spindle, strike and fixing screws needed to complete a 70mm backset installation.

This is a self-latching cylindrical deadlatch: the bolt latches automatically as the door closes and includes a deadlocking function for improved security performance. It is a mechanical component only - it does not add electronic, app or keypad functionality on its own, but it is the correct latch platform for the Yale Unity Entrance locks that do.

Importantly, this latch is fire rated to two hours, which is why it is the specified 70mm latch for the fire-rated variants of the Yale Unity Entrance range as well as the standard model. It is finished in Satin Chrome.

Fire rating
Fire rated to 2 hours
This deadlatch is fire rated to two hours, making it the correct 70mm latch for fire-rated Yale Unity Entrance installations. Fire performance always depends on the complete certified door set - see our guide to fire door smart locks and the AS1905.1 fire-rated certification reference for what to confirm before drilling a fire door.

Yale Unity Compatibility

This latch is a mechanical deadlatch only. It does not provide smart functionality; it completes the Yale Unity Entrance locks that use a 70mm tubular deadlatch platform. The table below lists compatibility that is confirmed against the Yale Smart Locks catalogue and the manufacturer specification.

Yale Lock Compatible Notes
Yale Unity Entrance Lock Yes Uses a 530 latch; this 70mm latch is the sold-separately option for 70mm backset preparation.
Yale Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated Yes Listed as the trade-pack latch; the latch's own 2-hour fire rating suits the fire-rated lock.
Yale Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated with DDA Lever Yes Listed as the trade-pack latch for the DDA fire-rated variant.
Yale Unity Slim Smart Lock No Uses a multi-point mortice lock, not a tubular deadlatch.
Yale Unity Security Screen Door Lock No Uses a single-point screen door mortice, not a tubular deadlatch.
Lockwood platform retrofit
Beyond the Yale Unity range, this is the same 530-series tubular deadlatch used across Lockwood hardware. It suits Lockwood 530, 930 and 950 series, and is also suitable for 530DX and Nexion door preparation. A closely related 530-latch product is the Lockwood Cortex CTX530 digital lockset, which uses a 530 latch at 60mm backset.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this deadlatch make my door smart?
No. This is a mechanical latch only. It must be used with a compatible Yale Unity Entrance lock to provide smart functionality.
Can this replace a 60mm backset latch?
Only if the door is prepared for a 70mm backset. Door preparation must be checked before installation - see our guide to measuring backset and the how-to on measuring your lock backset.
Which Yale locks use this latch?
It is the 70mm latch supplied separately for the Yale Unity Entrance Lock, the Unity Entrance Lock Fire Rated and the Fire Rated with DDA Lever variant. It is not used by the Unity Slim (multi-point) or the Unity Screen Door Lock.
Is this latch suitable for fire doors?
Yes. The latch is fire rated to two hours, which is why it is specified for the fire-rated Yale Unity Entrance locks. Fire compliance always depends on the complete certified door set - read fire door types and certification and which locks are compliant on apartment fire doors before proceeding.
Will it fit my existing Lockwood or Nexion door?
This is the 530-series tubular deadlatch, so it retrofits Lockwood 530, 930 and 950 series, plus 530DX and Nexion door preparation, provided the door is prepared for a 70mm backset. Confirm the existing backset before ordering.

Additional Information

  • This is a mechanical component. A tubular deadlatch is the latch that sits in the edge of the door - see what a latch is if you are unsure which part of your hardware this replaces.
  • Backset is the critical measurement here. This latch is fixed at 70mm, so the door must be prepared (or preparable) for a 70mm backset. Our guide to measuring your door backset walks through how to check.
  • Commonly specified in Australian installations when fitting or retrofitting a Yale Unity Entrance Lock, or when replacing the deadlatch on Lockwood 530, 930, 950, 530DX or Nexion hardware.
  • Because this latch is fire rated, it is often installed on fire-rated doors. Before drilling any fire door, confirm the certified door set and be aware of the asbestos risk in older apartment fire doors. A fire-rated deadlatch is often the secondary lock in a compliant arrangement - see secondary locks and the one-penetration principle.
  • For background on the Yale range this latch supports, see our honest guide to Yale smart locks in Australia.
  • Always confirm door preparation, backset and lock platform before ordering.

How to Make a Claim

Start your claim with us
For full returns and warranty claim procedures, visit our Returns & Warranty page - this is kept up to date and is the authoritative reference for current claim steps.
  1. Keep your proof of original purchase (invoice or receipt).
  2. Contact Gold Coast Smart Locks - operated by Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries - as your authorised retailer, and follow the steps on our Returns & Warranty page.
  3. Return the product securely packed to protect it in transit, together with your proof of purchase and your name, address, email and phone number.
  4. ASSA ABLOY assesses the claim. Where the warranty applies, they will (at their option) repair the product, replace it with the same or closest equivalent Yale product, or refund the price you paid.

Claims made directly to ASSA ABLOY require a Case Number from their Customer Service Department before goods are returned - products sent back without a Case Number may not be accepted. Costs of returning a product are the customer's responsibility.

What Is Not Covered

  • Normal wear and tear.
  • Misuse, abuse, accident, or use outside Yale's published technical specifications.
  • Improper maintenance or neglect, or failure to follow ASSA ABLOY's care and maintenance recommendations.
  • Use of batteries other than those specified; batteries themselves are not covered.
  • Unauthorised alteration, modification or repair by anyone other than ASSA ABLOY authorised personnel.
  • Custom orders made to components or specifications supplied by someone other than ASSA ABLOY.
  • Goods that were not new when purchased, second-hand goods, or products not originally sold in Australia through ASSA ABLOY or an authorised reseller.
  • Products with brands, marks, plates, numbers or other ASSA ABLOY information defaced or removed.
  • Use of substitute, replacement or non-genuine ASSA ABLOY parts or cylinders.
  • Corrosive exposure, including vapours, chemicals, abrasive compounds, contamination, pollution, coastal air, salt spray and high humidity.
  • Removal, refitment or replacement of products, and any associated charges.

Important Notes

Batteries, finishes and stainless steel
Batteries are consumable and are not covered. Cosmetic finishes and appearance are excluded. Stainless steel resists staining but is not stain-proof - tea staining is a natural process and is not covered where cleaning and maintenance guidelines have not been followed.
Coastal and corrosive environments
Damage from salt spray, coastal air, high humidity and other corrosives is excluded. In Gold Coast and coastal locations, choose a suitable finish and follow the care and maintenance guidance to protect your hardware and preserve your cover.

Your Rights Under the Australian Consumer Law

This manufacturer's warranty is in addition to other rights and remedies you may have under the law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
