Borg BL5771MGPROECP with Levers - Back To Back Easicode Keypads and Key Override - Marine Grade - Black

At A Glance

At A Glance
PIN code both sidesPIN Code (Both Sides) Key override both sidesKey Override (Both Sides)

The Borg BL5771MGPROECP is the most capable back-to-back lock in the Borg mechanical digital range: full-size clutched lever handles, dual Easicode Pro keypads, and built-in key override on both sides of the door - a combination no other back-to-back mechanical digital lock in the catalogue offers. Fully mechanical throughout: no batteries, no wiring, nothing to power.

Construction is Marine Grade Pro - critical internal components in the highest grade of stainless steel, finished in Borg's harder-wearing MG Pro 2 black coating, salt spray tested to 1,000 hours and cycle tested past 100,000 operations. It suits external doors, coastal sites, and secure gates where code control in both directions is required and a keyholder still needs a guaranteed way through. Part of the Digital Mechanical Locks range - see the Borg, Lockwood and Carbine lineup and the Borg brand profile for the wider picture.

Cylinder note
Key Override Both Sides - Cylinder and Keys Included
The key override mechanism is built into both keypads, and the Silca YA5 6-pin euro cylinder ships in the box with its keys - the lock installs complete. Sites running a master key system can have a locksmith re-pin the supplied cylinder or key it alike with existing doors; Terry's can arrange keying before dispatch - ask when ordering.
Marine grade
Marine Grade Pro - 1,000 Hours Salt Spray Tested
Critical internal components in the highest grade of stainless steel, finished in MG Pro 2 - Borg's hardest-wearing external coating, salt spray tested to 1,000 hours. Suitable for coastal and exposed external installations where the chrome plate external grade BL5051MGECP is not. Brand corrosion comparison: Lockwood vs Borg vs Carbine.
No batteries
Fully Mechanical - No Batteries Required
No power source, no wiring, no batteries to maintain - the core case for mechanical digital.

Key Features

  • Back-to-back keypads with key override both sides - a code or a key operates the door from either direction. The only BTB configuration in the range with a keyholder bypass built into both faces.
  • Easicode Pro on-door code change - change codes without removing the lock, roughly 10 seconds per side once practised. Optional code change disabling plug included.
  • Clutched lever handles - without the correct code the lever free-spins instead of transmitting force to the latch, protecting the mechanism from forced-entry leverage and casual abuse.
  • Free passage function - hold a side unlocked when access control is not needed; function can be permanently removed with the included plug if never wanted.
  • Marine Grade Pro construction: highest-grade stainless internals, 1,000-hour salt spray tested MG Pro 2 black finish.
  • Cycle tested to 100,000+ operations - medium to heavy duty rated.
  • 60mm backset heavy duty tubular latch with 12.5mm bolt and anti-thrust pin to resist forced retraction ("carding").
  • Over 1,000 any-order code combinations per keypad.
  • Large indented stainless steel buttons - positive feel, easy to read, easy to press.
  • Fully reversible on site for left or right hand doors.
  • Key override runs on the supplied Silca YA5 6-pin euro cylinder - keys included; re-pin or key alike to suit your site.

Access Methods

Method Available Notes
PIN Code - Both Sides Yes Full Easicode Pro keypad each side. Any-order entry, over 1,000 combinations. Press C first to clear part-pressed buttons.
Key Override - Both Sides Yes - cylinder and keys included Built into both keypads, operating on the supplied Silca YA5 6-pin euro cylinder (keys included). Guarantees keyholder access in both directions even if a code is forgotten; re-pin to join a master system.

Note the egress arrangement: exiting requires the code or a key. If unrestricted free egress from the inside is a requirement (most habitable buildings), consider the single-sided BL5701 instead - keypad and override outside, free lever inside. Exit paths explained.

Suitable Uses

Suitable
Medium to Heavy Usage
Cycle tested to 100,000+ operations with clutched lever protection - rated for medium to heavy usage areas. (The previous version of this page said light-medium duty; the series brochure rates the MG Pro ECP range medium to heavy.)
Not suitable
Not for Extremely High Traffic Without Servicing
For maximum-duty high-traffic commercial doors or unserviced installations, step up to the Lockwood 3572DX (Lockwood), the Borg BL7701, or the Carbine CDL7200LL-HD (Carbine) - the heavy duty internals guide explains the difference.

Available Finish Options

  • Black Matt MG Pro 2
    Black (MG Pro 2)
    BL5771MGPROECP

The marine grade BTB with key override comes in MG Pro 2 black only. For a chrome plate BTB (external grade, no override), see the BL5051MGECP.

Back-to-Back and Key Override Options Compared

How the BL5771MGPROECP sits against the other back-to-back and key-override locks in the range:

Model Configuration Key Override Weather Grade
BL5771MGPROECP (This Product) Back-to-back keypads, lever/lever Yes - both sides (cylinder and keys included) Marine Grade Pro
BL5051MGPROECP Back-to-back keypads, lever/lever No Marine Grade Pro
BL5051MGECP Back-to-back keypads, lever/lever No External grade (not coastal)
BL5701 Single-sided keypad, free lever inside Yes - outside Marine grade
Carbine CDL7200LL-KDSC-HD Dual keypad, dual BCA lever No C7 salt spray

Related marine ECP hardware: the BL3400DKO gate lock with anti-climb case covers exposed gate applications needing a shrouded case, and the BL5701KSCECP keypad-only unit retrofits the key-override keypad onto third party lockcases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cylinder
Does this lock come with the key override cylinder?
Yes - the Silca YA5 6-pin euro cylinder and its keys are included, so the lock installs complete. If your site runs a master key system, a locksmith can re-pin the supplied cylinder or key it alike with your existing doors; Terry's can arrange keying before dispatch.
Why BTB with override
Why choose this over the BL5051 back-to-back models?
Key override. The BL5051MGPROECP and BL5051MGECP are code-only in both directions - a forgotten code on a closed door means a locksmith. The BL5771MGPROECP adds a cylinder bypass on BOTH faces, so a keyholder always has a way through. On a keyed-alike site, supervisors move through every door on one key while day users work on codes.
Code change
How are codes changed?
On the door with the 5000-series Easicode Pro procedure: enter the current code, engage the code change key, clear with C, set the new code, confirm and release. Each keypad is changed separately. Test five times before closing the door. Full illustrated steps in the BL5000 ECP User Manual (PDF).
Coastal
Is it genuinely suitable for coastal installations?
Yes - this is the marine tier. Highest-grade stainless internals and the MG Pro 2 coating, salt spray tested to 1,000 hours. For sheltered non-coastal sites the chrome plate BL5051MGECP is the economical alternative (without override). Guidance: do you need MG Pro?
Free passage
Can the door be left open-access at busy times?
Yes - the free passage function holds a side unlocked so no code is needed, engaged and released per side. See how passage mode works and why it must not be left engaged on a fire door. If the function will never be used, the included plug removes it permanently.

Additional Information

Cylinder planning
Planning the Override Cylinder Before Installation:
Order or key the YA5 cylinder before install day so the lock goes on complete. On keyed-alike sites, give the cylinder schedule to your locksmith with the rest of the master system - the override is only as managed as the keys that operate it.
Marine maintenance
Maintenance in Coastal Environments:
Marine grade resists salt attack - it does not eliminate maintenance. Rinse external surfaces with fresh water periodically in direct salt spray zones, and lubricate the mechanism with a silicon-based (never oil-based) spray. Annual procedures: Borg Servicing Guide (PDF). Why internals decide lifespan: build quality vs imitations.
Clutched levers
What the Clutched Lever Actually Does:
Force applied to the lever without a valid code spins the handle freely instead of loading the latch mechanism - would-be forced entry gets no leverage, and the mechanism is protected from damage. The lever engages the latch only after a correct code (or the key override) is presented.

Borg BL5771MGPROECP - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide

Everything owners, installers and specifiers ask about the BL5771MGPROECP marine grade back-to-back key-override lock. Wider context: the Mechanical Digital Locks chapter of the Buyer's Guide and what is a mechanical digital lock.

Key Override and Cylinder

Cylinder
What cylinder does the key override use, and is it included?
A Silca YA5 6-pin euro profile cylinder - included in the box along with its keys, so the lock installs complete. The 6-pin YA5 platform supports proper keyed-alike and master-system work: have a locksmith re-pin the supplied cylinder to join an existing system, or ask Terry's to key it before dispatch.
Both sides
Is the key override really on BOTH sides?
Yes - the override mechanism is built into both the external and internal keypads. A keyholder can enter or exit regardless of codes. That makes this the only back-to-back lock in the range with a keyed bypass in both directions - the BL5051MGPROECP and BL5051MGECP BTB models are code-only.
Lost code
What happens if the code is forgotten?
Nothing dramatic - that is the point of the override. Use the key, then reset the code at your convenience with the ECP procedure. Without a key present, the lost-code porthole method in the user manual (PDF) recovers the code once the keypad is off the door.
Keys managed
Does the key override weaken security?
It changes the risk model rather than weakening it. A code-only lock fails hard (lost code = locksmith) but has no cylinder to pick or bump; a key-override lock adds a physical bypass that must be managed like any keyed door - restricted profile, controlled cutting, a key register on commercial sites. The YA5 6-pin platform supports proper key management. Key override on commercial digital locks explained.

Codes and Code Change

Change
How do I change a code, step by step?
On the door: enter the current code, insert the code change key over the code change button, rotate 90 degrees clockwise, press and hold. Press C to clear, enter the new code, press each new digit again to confirm, release and remove the key, press C to finish. Repeat on the other keypad if both sides are changing. Test at least five times with the door open. Illustrated: the 3000/5000-series ECP steps and the BL5000 ECP User Manual (PDF).
Mixed
The new code does not work after a change - what went wrong?
Usually C was skipped between old and new codes, leaving the chamber set to BOTH codes combined - try entering old and new digits together, then rerun the change from the start. If the lever free-spins after a change, no code was set: repeat from key insertion.
Order
Do buttons have to be pressed in order?
No - the chamber is non-sequential, so 1234 also opens with 4321 or any other order of the same digits. Any-order codes explained. Over 1,000 combinations per keypad.
Lockout
Can I stop staff or tenants changing codes?
Yes - fit the included code change disabling plug into the marked recess on the back of a keypad before installation; on-door change is then permanently disabled for that side until the unit comes off the door. Useful where only management should rotate codes.

Operation and Free Passage

Daily
What is the correct daily operating habit?
Press C first to clear any part-pressed buttons, enter the code, operate the lever. The clutch re-engages when the lever is released and the door is secured behind you. Teach the C-first habit to every user - it eliminates the most common "code stopped working" call-out.
Clutch
Why does the lever spin freely sometimes?
That is the clutch doing its job. Without a valid code (or key), the lever rotates without engaging the latch, so force and abuse cannot be transmitted into the mechanism. It is protection, not a fault. If the lever spins after a correct code, re-enter with C first; persistent free-spin after correct entry warrants a service check.
Passage
How does free passage work on a back-to-back lock?
Enter the code, rotate the lever, press F while rotated - that side is now free-turning without a code. Restore with the lever rotated and C pressed until it clicks. Each side is set independently, so the outside can stay on code while the inside runs free during business hours. Passage mode explained; when to use it.
Passage limits
Where must free passage NOT be used?
Fire doors (the door must stay latched and controlled - why) and pool barrier gates (self-latching is mandatory). If passage will never be wanted, fit the included removal plug and the function is permanently deleted.
Egress
Can people always get out from the inside?
Only with the code or a key - there is no free inside lever on this model. Confirm that arrangement complies with the egress requirements for your building class before specifying; on habitable buildings a free-egress model like the single-sided BL5701 is usually the compliant choice. Exit paths and digital locks; egress on double-sided gates.

Installation and Setup

Handing
Can I reverse the levers for my door?
Yes, on site, both sides. Remove the grommet on the handle side to expose the grub screw, unscrew with the supplied hex key, refit the handle in the correct orientation and re-tighten. The 5700-series key-override keypads have their own handing procedure in the user manual (PDF) - follow that version, not the standard 5000-series one.
Thickness
What door thickness does it fit?
This listing suits 35-54mm doors on the supplied fixings. If your door is thicker, contact Terry's before ordering - do not assume longer screws will do it.
Latch
What latch does it come with, and are there options?
A 60mm backset heavy duty tubular latch with a 12.5mm bolt and an anti-thrust pin that blocks the "carding" attack (forcing the bolt back with a blade). Latch formats compared: latch vs bolt and why self-latching matters on controlled doors.
Spindle
Anything to know about the spindle?
An 8mm square drive spindle is supplied. Fit per the manual - seat it fully into both assemblies and never cut it shorter than necessary; an over-trimmed spindle can shift under a door slam and cause a lockout.
Gate
Can it go on a gate?
Yes - marine construction suits exposed gates, and back-to-back keypads with a keyed bypass are a strong gate combination (why double-sided suits gates). For gates needing an enclosed anti-climb case around the mechanism, the BL3400DKO gate lock is purpose-built.

Weather, Duty and Care

Marine
What does Marine Grade Pro actually mean?
Critical internal components in the highest grade of stainless steel plus the MG Pro 2 external coating - Borg's hardest-wearing finish - salt spray tested to 1,000 hours and cycle tested past 100,000 operations. The full breakdown: MG Pro 2 explained and whether your site needs it. Brand comparison: Lockwood vs Borg vs Carbine on corrosion.
Traffic
Is it heavy duty enough for a main commercial entry?
It is rated medium to heavy duty at 100,000+ cycles - genuine commercial capability. For extremely high traffic (hundreds of cycles daily) or where servicing cannot be guaranteed, step up to the Lockwood 3572DX, Borg BL7701 or Carbine CDL7200LL-HD - the high-traffic tier explained and what the internals difference is.
Care
What maintenance keeps it in warranty and working?
Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth; in direct salt zones rinse with fresh water periodically. Lubricate the mechanism with a silicon-based spray - never oil, which draws grit into the coding chamber. Annual procedures: the Borg Servicing Guide (PDF). Well-serviced quality internals are the difference between trade locks and imitations.
