The Borg BL5001 is a medium-heavy duty fully mechanical digital lock from the BL5000 series - a step up from the lighter BL2000 family in clutch strength, coding chamber robustness, and cycle endurance. It suits a wide range of commercial and institutional applications, with fire rating to AS 1905.1-2005 (up to 4 hours depending on the doorset) and a cycle life of 100,000 operations. The fully mechanical design needs no batteries, no wiring and no power source of any kind.
The clutching lever on the keypad face remains free-turning until the correct PIN is entered, then engages to retract the latch. The inside lever is always free to turn, providing immediate egress from the secure side without any code. A free passage function via the F button allows the lever to be held disengaged for free access during service periods, and this function can be permanently deactivated if not required.
Code change on the BL5001 uses the tumbler system - the lock must be removed from the door and the cover plate lifted to reposition the red coded and blue uncoded tumblers with the included tweezers. Which BL5001 finish is right for a pool gate or beachside location?
BL5001MGPRO only. It is the only variant with 316 stainless steel internals and 1,000-hour salt spray testing. The other four finishes will corrode in a coastal or pool environment at a pace that voids the warranty. If you also need on-door code change, the BL5001MGPROECP combines MG Pro with EasiCode Pro. No - the 12-month corrosion resistance warranty applies specifically to the BL5001MGPRO finish. The other four finishes carry the standard 12-month materials and workmanship warranty only. For the MGPRO warranty to apply, the required maintenance schedule (monthly silicon lubricant, annual internal servicing) must be followed.

Codes and Code Change
Does the order of button presses matter?
No. Like all Borg mechanical coding chambers, only the combination of buttons pressed counts - not the sequence. So 1234 is entered successfully as 1234, 4321, 3412, 2143 or any other order. This is inherent to how mechanical coding tumblers work. The implication is that every button in your code must be distinct - if you use the same button twice in a traditional sense, the chamber only registers it once. Choose a spread of buttons rather than repeated digits.

No - it is reversible on site for left-hand or right-hand doors. The handing procedure is in the Non-ECP User Manual (PDF). Note that the handing chart in that manual covers both the BL5001 and the wider BL5000 series.

The retrofit approach is popular in commercial buildings where the existing door hardware is retained and only the lock cylinder and escutcheon are replaced with the Borg keypad.

- Contact Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd first if you purchased through us or one of its associated trading names - we will assess the issue and manage the warranty process with LSC on your behalf. You do not need to contact LSC or Borg Locks UK directly.
- Have your proof of purchase ready (receipt or order confirmation).
- Warranty claims for Borg products in Australia are processed through LSC, the authorised Australian importer and distributor. Where an item is returned to LSC, freight charges must be prepaid and the item returned within the warranty period.
- If LSC finds the returned item to be defective, it will be repaired or replaced, and a detailed assessment report is provided to the customer after examination.
