The Borg BL3430DKOMGPROECP is the top-specification model in Borg's purpose-built gate lock family - a fully mechanical keypad lock that clamps to the face of a metal box-section gate post with no mortice cutting. It combines four capabilities in one unit: Marine Grade Pro construction tested to 1,000 hours of salt spray, Easicode Pro on-gate code change, back-to-back keypads so a code is required from both sides of the gate, and a euro cylinder Double Key Override (DKO) with a code lockout function.

The Double Key Override does two jobs. Turned one way, the key opens the gate without a code. Turned further, it deadlocks the latch bolt and locks the keypads out entirely - the correct code will not open the gate until the key releases it. That gives a supervisor, body corporate manager, or facility keyholder the ability to shut a gate down completely at the end of the day, regardless of who knows the code. The euro cylinder itself is not supplied and is ordered separately.

Like every lock in this family, it is entirely mechanical - no batteries, no wiring, and nothing to charge. The spring-loaded latch bolt adjusts from 65mm to 80mm of projection, the forend fixing system suits square gate posts from 30mm to 60mm as standard (up to 120mm with the XL latchbolt option), and the lever is reversible on site to suit either hand of gate. Browse the full Digital Mechanical Locks range for every battery-free keypad lock we stock.

Marine Grade Pro - 1,000 Hour Salt Spray Tested
Finished in Borg's MG Pro black marine external grade coating and tested to 1,000 continuous hours of salt spray exposure - built for coastal gates that cop salt air every day. If you are weighing up which Borg grade you need, read MG Pro and ECP explained.

Back-to-Back Keypads - Code Required from Both Sides
Both faces of the gate carry a full keypad operating on the same PIN code, so the gate cannot be opened from either side without it. On a gate this matters more than on a door: a single-sided gate lock can often be defeated by simply reaching over the gate to the free inside handle. Our guide to double-sided gate locks covers exactly why back-to-back is the right call on most secure gates.
Key override iconDKO badge
Double Key Override (DKO) - Key Access Plus Code Lockout
A euro profile cylinder fits into the lock body and gives the keyholder two functions: (1) emergency key access without the code, and (2) a code lockout - the key deadlocks the latch bolt and disables both keypads, so no code will open the gate until the key releases it. The euro cylinder and keys are not supplied - order a standard euro profile cylinder in the correct length for your gate post from our cylinders and barrels range or through your locksmith.
Caution icon
Code Required to Exit - No Free Egress, Not for Fire or Egress Doors, Not for Pool Barrier Gates
The inside keypad requires the correct PIN before the lever will operate, and the key lockout can disable code entry entirely. That makes this lock unsuitable for any fire door, required exit path, or emergency egress route - see why exit paths need free egress. It is also not suitable for pool safety barrier gates, where a code-to-exit lock conflicts with the barrier's compliance requirements - the pool barrier gate rules explain what is and is not allowed. Confirm compliance with your certifier before installing on any regulated gate or door.
No batteries icon
Fully Mechanical - No Batteries, Ever
There is no power source, no wiring, and no battery to go flat on a rainy night. The keypad, latch, and key override are all purely mechanical - one of the biggest practical advantages of a mechanical digital lock on an outdoor gate.
Keypad icon
Single PIN Code Only
Like all mechanical digital locks, this lock holds one active code at a time - everyone who uses the gate shares it, and there is no audit trail of who came and went. Easicode Pro makes rotating that shared code quick, but if you need individual codes per user, a mechanical keypad is the wrong tool - see the honest limitations of mechanical digital locks.
Suitable for icon
Light to Medium Duty
This gate lock is built for light to medium traffic - residential gates, strata side gates, plant rooms, and service enclosures where a manageable number of people come and go each day. The forend fixing clamps to a hollow box-section post, which is a genuine structural consideration: it is the right method for gates, but it is not a commercial heavy-duty door lock.
Not suitable for icon
Not for High-Traffic Commercial Doorways
For a busy commercial entrance with constant daily cycles, choose a heavy-duty rated mechanical digital lock instead - the Borg BL7701 heavy duty or the dual-keypad Carbine CDL7200LL-KDSC-HD. Our guide to what heavy duty actually means explains cycle ratings and where the line sits.

Key Features

  • Back-to-back keypads - the same PIN code is required to enter and to exit the gate.
  • Double Key Override (DKO) via euro cylinder - manual key access independent of the code, plus a code lockout that deadlocks the latch bolt and disables both keypads until the key releases it. Cylinder not supplied.
  • Marine Grade Pro (MG Pro) black external coating, tested to 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray.
  • Easicode Pro (ECP) on-gate code change - no lock removal, using the included code change key.
  • Optional code change disabling plug included - blank off the code change function where required.
  • Over 4,000 code combinations, enterable in any order (non-sequential).
  • Free-turning outside lever - the lever spins without operating the latch until the correct code is entered.
  • Forend fixing system - through-bolts to the face of the gate post, no mortice cutting or edge drilling.
  • Anti-climb housing design.
  • Spring-loaded latch bolt, adjustable from 65mm to 80mm projection via the included hex key.
  • Suits square gate posts from 30mm to 60mm as standard; XL latchbolt available separately for posts up to 120mm.
  • Fully mechanical - no batteries, no wiring, no power.
  • Reversible on site to suit either hand of gate (supplied factory-set right-hand hung).

Easicode Pro - Changing the Code on the Gate

Easicode Pro is the reason property managers specify this model over the tumbler-chamber versions. On the standard marine grade models the lock comes off the gate and the code is changed at a bench with tweezers; on the BL3430 MG Pro ECP the whole job happens on the gate in a few minutes with the supplied change key. With the gate open, enter the current code, insert the change key at the code change button and rotate, clear the old code, enter the new digits, then remove the key and test the new code several times before closing the gate. The code is non-sequential - the digits can be pressed in any order.

The Easicode Pro change key inserts at the code change button on the keypad - the code is changed with the lock in place on the gate. A spare change key is available separately: Borg Easicode change key (BL2000ECPCK).

Forend Fixing System - How the Lock Mounts

Unlike a door lock, the BL3430 never needs a mortice pocket. The lock body sits on the face of the gate post and two telescopic through-bolt fixings pass right through the post, clamping the unit firmly from both sides - a front collar and sleeve assembly on the keypad side, and a rear collar fitted from the post's rear side. Standard fixings suit square posts from 30mm to 60mm. If your post sits outside that range, measure before ordering - our guide to measuring the gate stile and the forend fixing option walk through it, and the accessories table below lists the latch extensions and round post kit.

Suitable Uses

  • Secure coastal and marine-environment gates where salt exposure rules out standard-grade hardware - see all locks rated for an external gate exposed to rain.
  • Gates that must be secure from both sides - back-to-back keypads defeat the reach-over trick that undoes single-sided gate locks.
  • Plant rooms, pump enclosures, and restricted-access service gates where codes rotate often (Easicode Pro) and a supervisor needs key-based lockdown (DKO).
  • Strata, body corporate, and managed-property side gates - on-site code management without calling a locksmith, plus a manager's key that shuts the gate down completely.
  • Marina, waterfront, and commercial yard gates with light to medium daily traffic.
  • Not suitable for: pool safety barrier gates (see the canonical pool barrier treatment), fire doors, or any required exit path - the code-to-exit design and key lockout conflict with free-egress requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the forend fixing system work - do I need to cut a mortice?
No mortice, no edge drilling. The lock body sits on the face of the gate post and the telescopic fixing screws pass right through the post, clamping the unit firmly from both sides. The spring-loaded latchbolt projects from the lock body into a strike on the opposite post or frame, and its projection adjusts from 65mm to 80mm with the included hex key. This is exactly the fixing method our narrow gate post guide recommends when a mortice lock physically will not fit the stile.
What exactly does the Double Key Override (DKO) do?
Two things. First, it is a conventional key override: turn the key and the gate opens without a code. Second, it is a code lockout: turn the key further and the latch bolt deadlocks while both keypads are disabled - the correct code will not open the gate until the key releases it. That gives an authorised keyholder full lockdown control over the gate. The euro profile cylinder is not supplied; source one in the correct length for your gate post from our cylinders range or through your locksmith.
Can I use this lock on a pool gate?
No - not on a pool safety barrier gate. This lock requires a code to exit and can be key-locked out entirely, which conflicts with pool barrier compliance requirements. Pool barrier gates need a compliant self-closing, self-latching arrangement, and the rules around what locks are permitted are specific - read the canonical pool barrier gate treatment and why keypad locks and pool gates need care, and confirm any pool gate setup with a licensed pool safety inspector. For pool equipment enclosures and plant gates that are not part of the safety barrier itself, this lock is fine.
My gate post is wider than 60mm - what do I do?
An XL latchbolt option extends the maximum gate post width from 60mm up to 120mm - see the stainless steel gate latch extensions in the Accessories and Spares table above, including the version made for Easicode locks. Measure the post before ordering: our guide to gate post size groups shows exactly what to measure and where.
Do I really have to enter the code to get out?
Yes - both keypads run the same code and the inside lever will not operate without it. That is the point of back-to-back on a gate: a single-sided gate lock can often be defeated by reaching over the top to the free inside handle. If you want code-in but free-handle-out instead, the single-sided BL3400MGPROECP is the same lock without the inside keypad. Never fit a code-to-exit lock on a required exit path - see exit paths explained.

Additional Information

Euro cylinder sourcing: the Double Key Override needs a standard euro profile cylinder, ordered separately in the correct length for your gate post width. Measure the assembled post-plus-lock depth before ordering, or ask us to match one - a cylinder that is too short will not engage and one that protrudes invites attack.
Marine grade maintenance: MG Pro coating resists salt attack, it does not exempt the lock from care. Monthly, apply a light spray of silicone-based lubricant to the keypad buttons and lever pivots and wipe off the excess; annually, have the lock serviced. The Borg Servicing Guide (PDF) covers the routine, and the corrosion warranty depends on it being followed.
Code change discipline: always change the code with the gate open, and test the new code at least five times before closing the gate. The Easicode Pro procedure takes a couple of minutes on the gate - the full step-by-step with photos is in changing codes on ECP locks. Fit the included disabling plug if you want the code change function blanked off between changes.
Why back-to-back matters on gates: most gates can be reached over. A single-sided lock with a free inside handle secures nothing against anyone tall enough to reach the far side - the single-sided problem explained. Back-to-back closes that hole, at the cost of code-to-exit - a trade you should make deliberately.
One code, shared by everyone: plan how the code is shared and how often it rotates. On a strata or managed gate, put code rotation on the maintenance calendar - Easicode Pro makes it a two-minute job, and the DKO key gives management a lockdown lever the code holders cannot bypass. If per-user codes or an audit trail are must-haves, you are shopping for an electronic lock, not a mechanical one - see the honest limitations rundown.

Borg BL3430DKOMGPROECP - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide

Everything buyers, installers, and gate managers ask about this back-to-back Double Key Override gate lock. For the wider picture, start with the Mechanical Digital Locks Buyer's Guide chapter.

Fixing and Installation

What tools do I need to install this lock?
Basic hand tools and a drill. The telescopic fixing screws pass through holes drilled in the gate post, so there is no mortice cutting, chiselling, or specialist gear. The included hex key adjusts the latch projection. A competent DIYer can fit it; if you would rather hand it over, see our advice and installation service.
What gate post sizes does it fit?
Square box-section posts from 30mm to 60mm as standard. The telescopic screws adjust across that range. From 60mm up to 120mm you add the XL latchbolt option - see the gate latch extensions in the Accessories and Spares section, including the extension made for Easicode locks. Measure before you order: how to measure a gate stile.
My gate is hung left-handed - is that a problem?
No. The lock ships factory-set for a right-hand hung gate and is reversed on site during installation to suit a left-hand gate - no special parts needed, the procedure is in the installation instructions (PDF).
Can I fit it to a round gate post?
Yes, with the Borg round post kit (BLGATERPK), which adapts the forend fixing to round posts. The standard fixing is designed for square box-section.
Will it fit a timber gate or a door?
It is designed for external metal box-section gate frames - the through-bolt forend fixing assumes a hollow metal post. It is not a door lock: for a building doorway, look at Borg's lever locksets like the BL7701 heavy duty instead. For a timber gate, ask us first - the fixing method is the deciding factor.

Codes and Easicode Pro

How do I change the code?
On the gate, with the gate open: enter the current code, fit the included code change key, follow the Easicode Pro sequence to clear and set the new digits, then remove the key and test the new code at least five times before closing the gate. No lock removal, no dismantling. The full illustrated procedure is in changing codes on Borg ECP locks.
Does the code have to be entered in order?
No - codes are non-sequential, meaning the digits can be pressed in any order. There are over 4,000 combinations available. One code is active at a time, and both keypads share it.
Do both keypads change together, or separately?
Each keypad is a mechanical unit with its own coding chamber, so the Easicode Pro change is performed at each keypad. Keep both set to the same code - the gate is operated with one shared PIN, and mismatched keypads mean a different code in than out, which is a recipe for a lockout.
What is the disabling plug for?
It blanks off the Easicode Pro code change port so the code cannot be changed on the gate - useful on managed sites where you do not want anyone with physical access experimenting. Fit it after setting your code; remove it when you next need a change.
What happens if we forget the code?
Use the key. That is half the reason the DKO variant exists - a euro cylinder key opens the gate regardless of the code, and the code can then be reset with the change key at your leisure. If no cylinder was ever fitted and the code is lost with the gate shut, you will need a locksmith - which is a strong argument for fitting the cylinder on day one.

Key Override and Code Lockout

What cylinder do I need, and why is it not included?
A standard euro profile cylinder, in a length matched to your gate post width plus the lock body. Borg supplies the lock without a cylinder so sites can key it into an existing key system - one management key can run the gate, the plant room, and the office. Order from our cylinders and barrels range or have your locksmith supply and key it.
What does DKO mean on the item code?
Double Key Override - Borg's name for the two-function key: normal key access, plus the code lockout that deadlocks the latch and disables both keypads. It is the difference between this model and the plain BL3430MGPROECP, which has no key facility at all. Borg's model naming is decoded in the Buyer's Guide naming section.
If the key locks the gate down, can someone be locked inside?
Yes - and that is precisely why this lock must never be used on a required exit path. The code lockout deadlocks the latch from both sides. Use the lockout only on gates where lockdown is the intended behaviour and no one can be trapped - plant enclosures, yards with alternative exits, service gates. See why exit paths need free egress.

Egress, Compliance and Suitability

Can I use it on a fire door or a building exit?
No. A code-required-to-exit lock with a key lockout is the opposite of free egress. Fire doors and required exits need hardware that always opens from the inside in a single action - this product carries no fire rating and is not designed for doors at all. For compliant heavy-duty door hardware, start with heavy duty commercial mechanical digital locks and the Carbine CDL7200LL-KDSC-HD.
Is it OK for a shared or communal gate?
Yes, with planning. Shared gates suit a mechanical keypad well - no fobs to lose, no batteries to die - but one code is shared by everyone, so decide who holds the DKO key and how often the code rotates. Our guide to shared gate setups covers the common arrangements.
Is it secure enough to be the only lock on a high-value site?
Treat it as convenience-grade access control, not a vault. It is a quality mechanical keypad with an anti-climb housing and a genuine deadlocking key function, but security is a system: the gate, hinges, fence line, and lighting matter as much as the lock. The honest framing is in which format is actually more secure.

Weather and Maintenance

What does MG Pro actually get me over standard marine grade?
The full Marine Grade Pro external coating across the lock, tested to 1,000 continuous hours of salt spray - the tier Borg builds for genuinely coastal exposure. The standard-grade models in this family pair a black powder coat body with marine grade keypads. The grades, and which one your site needs, are unpacked in MG Pro and ECP explained and the brand comparison.
What maintenance does it need?
Monthly: a light spray of silicone-based lubricant on the keypad buttons and lever pivots, excess wiped off. Annually: a service per the Borg Servicing Guide (PDF). On a salt-air site this routine is not optional - it is what keeps the 12-month corrosion warranty intact and the buttons crisp.
Will rain or storms stop it working?
There are no electronics to fail - the mechanism is entirely mechanical, which is exactly why battery-free keypads dominate the gate market. Keep up the lubrication routine and the lock shrugs off weather that would kill an electronic keypad. Background: what a mechanical digital lock is.

Choosing Between Models

When would I pick this over the cheaper models in the family?
Pick this flagship when you need all four: coastal-grade coating (MG Pro), on-gate code changes (ECP), code required both ways (back-to-back), and a management key with lockdown (DKO). Drop any requirement and a cheaper sibling covers you: the BL3430MGPROECP is the same lock without the key facility, the BL3430DKOGATE keeps the DKO but steps down to standard marine grade and bench code changes, and the single-sided BL3400MGPROECP gives free-handle egress. The full matrix is in the Item Code Family table on the main page.
What are the alternatives outside this family?
For a gate secured by a horizontal deadbolt instead of a latch, the Borg BL2615MGPROECP; for a lever-handle back-to-back gate lock on a mortice-capable stile, the BL4441MGPROECP; for back-to-back with key override on a building door, the BL5771MGPROECP. The latch-or-bolt decision itself is covered in latch vs bolt.
Why not just use a magnetic gate latch with a keypad?
Magnetic latches have their place, but pairing them with mechanical keypads brings real problems - alignment drift, revisit rates, and the latch doing the securing while the keypad only gates the handle. The honest account is in why magnetic gate latches can be problematic. This lock's spring-loaded latch and strike do the securing themselves.

How to Make a Claim

For full returns and warranty claim procedures, visit our Returns & Warranty page - this is kept up to date and is the authoritative reference for current claim steps.
  1. Contact Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd first if you purchased through us or one of its associated trading names - we will assess the issue and manage the warranty process with LSC on your behalf. You do not need to contact LSC or Borg Locks UK directly.
  2. Have your proof of purchase ready (receipt or order confirmation).
  3. Warranty claims for Borg products in Australia are processed through LSC, the authorised Australian importer and distributor. Where an item is returned to LSC, freight charges must be prepaid and the item returned within the warranty period.
  4. If LSC finds the returned item to be defective, it will be repaired or replaced, and a detailed assessment report is provided to the customer after examination.
Australian Consumer Law
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. The Borg manufacturer warranty above operates alongside - and does not limit - these statutory rights.
