Easicode Pro - On-Door Code Change
The PIN can be changed with the lock installed. Insert the code change key over the code change button, rotate 90 degrees clockwise and hold, press C to clear, enter the new code, confirm, then release. No lock removal required. Code change
How do I change the PIN code on the BL5051MGECP?
With the door open, enter the current code. Insert the code change key over the code change button, rotate 90 degrees clockwise, press and hold. Press C to clear, enter the new code, press all digits again to confirm, then release the key and press C (or rotate the lever) to set. Test the code at least five times before closing the door. Dual keypad
Why does this lock need a code from the inside?
The BL5051 is the back-to-back version of the BL5001. Where the BL5001 has a free-turning inside lever, the BL5051 carries a full keypad on both sides - the code is required from whichever side you are on, controlling access in both directions. If free inside egress is a requirement, choose the single-sided BL5001 instead.
Independent codes
Can each side have a different code?
Yes. Each keypad has its own independent coding chamber. Both sides can share one code, or each can run a completely different code. The free passage function also engages and disengages independently per side.
Free passage
How does the free passage function work?
Enter the correct code, rotate the lever, then press F while the lever is rotated - that side becomes free-turning without needing the code each use. Coastal suitability
Is the BL5051MGECP suitable for coastal or beachside locations?
No. The chrome plate external grade finish handles normal external weather but is not rated for coastal or saline environments. Spindle sizing
Spindle Selection for Your Door Thickness:
Two spindles are supplied (80mm and 90mm) - use the longest that fits. Rule of thumb: door thickness + 30mm = minimum spindle length, since 15mm must seat into each lock body. A 50mm door therefore needs at least an 80mm spindle. Cut from one end only and never shorter than necessary - a short spindle can slip under door slam and lock users out.
Maintenance
Chrome Plate Care and Servicing:
Wipe the keypad and lever surfaces regularly with a damp cloth. Apply a light silicon-based lubricant to the lever and button mechanism periodically - avoid oil-based lubricants, which attract grit into the chamber. Annual procedures are in the Borg Servicing Guide (PDF).
Fire doors
Specifying for Fire Door Assemblies:
Confirm all other hardware in the assembly is fire-rated and compatible with the doorset certification, and confirm the code-to-exit arrangement complies with emergency egress requirements before specifying - exit path rules for commercial doors. Codes and Code Change

Code change
How do I change the code, step by step?
With the door open, enter the current code. Insert the code change key over the code change button in the top centre of the keypad, rotate it 90 degrees clockwise, then press and hold. Press C to clear the old code, press the digits of the new code, then press every digit in the new code once more to confirm each is set. Release the key pressure, rotate back and remove the key, then press C (or turn the lever) to finalise. Test the new code at least five times and confirm the latch withdraws before closing the door. Mixed code trap
I changed the code and now it does not work - what happened?
The most common cause: C was not pressed between clearing the old code and entering the new one. The chamber is then set to a combination of both codes - if the old code was 1234 and the new one 6789, the live code is 12346789. Enter the old and new codes together, then run the change procedure again from the start. If the lever free-turns after a change, the new code was never set - repeat from the key-insertion step.
Any order
Does the order I press the buttons in matter?
No. The chamber is non-sequential - a code of 1234 opens with 4321, 3214, or any other order of the same digits. This is standard mechanical digital chamber behaviour. Over 1,000 combinations are available per keypad.
Different codes
Can the inside and outside keypads run different codes?
Yes. Each keypad has a fully independent coding chamber. Set both to the same code for simplicity, or run different codes - for example a widely shared code on the inside and a restricted code on the outside. Each side is changed separately using the same ECP procedure.
Lost code
We have lost the code - can it be recovered?
Yes, but the unit must come off the door. On the back of the keypad are ten portholes showing blue and red indicator lines - press C first, then read which portholes show a red line closest to the centre: those digits are the code. The porthole diagram is on page 6 of the BL5000 ECP User Manual (PDF). Note the code before refitting. If neither side has a known code and the door is locked shut, contact a locksmith - there is no key override on this model.
Disable code change
Can I stop other people changing the code?
Yes. The accessory pack includes an on-door code change deactivation plug. Fitted into the marked hole on the back of the keypad before installation, it permanently disables on-door code changing for that side - the unit must come off the door to re-enable it. Useful in shared facilities where only management should control codes.

Operation and Free Passage

Daily use
What is the correct way to open the door day to day?
Press C first - this clears any buttons a previous user may have part-pressed - then enter the code and pull the lever down, away from the door edge. Release the lever and the unit resets and relocks behind you. The same sequence applies on both sides.
Free passage
How do I set the lock to free passage so no code is needed?
Enter the correct code, rotate the lever, and press F while the lever is rotated. That side is now free-turning - anyone can operate it without the code. To relock, rotate the lever and press C until you hear an audible click; the chamber resets and the code is required again. Each side engages and exits passage mode independently. Passage cautions
When should free passage NOT be used?
Never leave passage mode engaged on a fire door - the door must be able to latch and the lock must control it (why passage mode and fire doors do not mix). It is also unsuitable on pool barrier gates, which must self-latch at all times. If passage will never be needed, fit the included free passage deactivation plug into the slot behind the F button before installation - the function is then permanently disabled for that side.
Why code inside
Why would anyone want a lock that needs a code to get OUT?
Controlled egress: preventing unaccompanied exit from secure yards, memory-support facilities, staff-only rear doors, or compounds where a reach-over defeat of a one-sided keypad is the risk. If your situation only needs entry control, the single-sided Borg BL5001 keeps a free lever inside - see when double-sided control is the right call.

Installation and Handing

Handing
The lever points the wrong way for my door - can I reverse it?
Yes, on site. All units ship preset right-hand. To change hand, remove the grey grommet on the side of the keypad handle to expose the grub screw, remove the screw with the supplied hex wrench, refit the handle facing the correct direction, and tighten the screw back in. Repeat on the inside handle. The handing diagrams (door configurations A through D) are on page 1 of the user manual (PDF).
Spindle
Which spindle do I use, and can I cut it down?
Two spindles are supplied (80mm and 90mm) - always use the longest that fits. Rule: door thickness + 30mm = minimum spindle length, because 15mm of blade must seat into each body. A 44mm door needs a 74mm minimum, so use the 80mm. When fitting, angle the blade toward the top opening edge of the door. Never cut shorter than necessary - an over-trimmed spindle can slip out of position if the door is slammed, locking users out.
Door thickness
My door is thicker than 80mm - can this lock still fit?
Standard fixings suit 35-80mm doors. An XL fixing kit extends coverage to 85mm - contact Terry's before ordering if your door is in that band. Beyond 85mm, this lock is not the right product.
Narrow frame
My door frame is narrow - will the standard latch fit?
The standard 60mm backset tubular latch runs about 80mm deep behind the faceplate and fits a typical 100x50mm frame comfortably. For narrow stiles, a 28mm backset latch (BLS275000) is available separately, and a 70mm backset latch exists for deeper setouts. Measure before ordering. Pre-fit checks
What should I check before final fitting?
Three checks from the manual: (1) enter the factory code from the code card and confirm the lever rotates down and returns under spring pressure, twice; (2) confirm the inside handle rotates freely and springs back; (3) press the latch bolt end and confirm it springs out freely. Change the factory code before or after fitting - but always test it five times with the door open.

Coastal
Can I install this at a beachside property?
No. The chrome plate external grade finish resists corrosion in normal weather but is not rated for coastal or saline environments - salt air will attack the plating and internals. For coastal sites, use the BL5051MGPROECP - the same back-to-back ECP lock in Marine Grade Pro construction with 316 stainless internals and 1,000 hours of salt spray testing. Fire doors
Is this lock legal on a fire door?
The BL5000 series is fire tested to AS 1905.1-2005, up to 4 hours depending on the doorset. Two qualifiers: every other component in the assembly must also be fire-rated and compatible with the doorset certification, and the code-to-exit arrangement must satisfy the egress requirements applying to your building - see exit path rules and fire door certification explained. When in doubt, confirm with your certifier before specifying.
Corrosion warranty
What does the corrosion guarantee actually cover?
The chrome-plated external components are guaranteed to resist corrosion in normal weather conditions for up to 1 year. Coastal or saline exposure is outside its scope - which is exactly why the marine sibling exists for those sites. How much traffic is too much for this lock?
The BL5051MGECP is cycle tested to 100,000+ operations and rated for medium to heavy usage. Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Maintenance
What routine maintenance does it need?
Wipe the keypad and lever with a damp cloth to clear dirt. Periodically apply a light silicon-based spray to the lever and button mechanism - never oil-based lubricants, which draw grit into the chamber. Annual procedures are in the Borg Servicing Guide (PDF). Quality internals are the reason genuine trade locks outlast hardware store lookalikes - but only when serviced.
Button pressed
The code will not work even though it is correct - why?
Almost always a part-pressed button from a previous user. Press C firmly to reset the chamber, then enter the code again. This is why the C-first habit is worth teaching every user. If the code still fails after a C reset, run the lost-code porthole check to confirm what the chamber is actually set to.
No override
Is there any way in without the code?
No - this model has no key override, which is part of its security story: no cylinder to pick or bump. The trade-off is that a lost code on a closed door means a locksmith visit.   2. Have your proof of purchase ready (receipt or order confirmation).
  3. Warranty claims for Borg products in Australia are processed through LSC, the authorised Australian importer and distributor. Where an item is returned to LSC, freight charges must be prepaid and the item returned within the warranty period.
  4. If LSC finds the returned item to be defective, it will be repaired or replaced, and a detailed assessment report is provided to the customer after examination.
