The PIN code can be changed while the lock is installed on the door using the included code change key. Insert the key over the phi button at the top of the keypad, rotate 90 degrees clockwise and hold, press C to clear, enter the new code digits, confirm, then release and remove the key. The BL5701, like all Borg Easicode Pro mechanical digital locks, stores a single active PIN code at any one time. This is a characteristic of the mechanical coding chamber - there is no memory and no user database. If audit trails or multiple user codes are required, this product is not the correct choice. If you do not need a key override, the BL5001 is a simpler and typically more economical choice. The BL5701 uses the medium to heavy duty BL5000 series lock body. The BL7701 uses the heavier duty BL7000 series body with an SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) cylinder format compatible with the Unican 1000/5000 and master key systems - making it the right choice for high-traffic commercial buildings with existing master key programs. For most standard commercial and external applications requiring code-plus-key access, the BL5701 is appropriate. If the door sees genuinely high traffic or must accept an existing keyed system, escalate to the BL7701.
The BL5701 keypad handle handing procedure differs from the BL5001 because the key override cylinder adds a second fixing point. Remove the grey rubber grommet on both the top and bottom of the keypad handle to expose two grub screws. Use the included hex wrench to remove both grub screws, lift the handle off the spindle, rotate 180 degrees, refit, and retighten both grub screws, then replace both grommets. The inside flat bar handle is reversed the same way as other BL5000 models (one grommet and grub screw). Full instructions are in the ECP Instruction Segments V2.
Only the BL5701MGPROECP (black Marine Grade Pro) is rated for coastal and saline environments. It uses MG Pro 2 marine external grade coating with 316 stainless steel internal components, tested to 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray. The BL5701SCECP (satin chrome) is designed for internal and sheltered external use only and should not be specified in saline air, beachside, or marine environments. Additional Information
Unlike the BL7701 where the SFIC cylinder is not included, the BL5701 ships with the key override cylinder pre-fitted and keys included. No additional sourcing is required for the key override to function. If you need the lock re-keyed to an existing master key system, a locksmith can replace the factory-fitted cylinder with a compatible keyed cylinder. Contact Terry's to discuss keyed-alike or master key options before ordering.
Two spindles are supplied (80mm and 90mm). The general rule is door thickness + 30mm = minimum spindle length (15mm must seat inside each lock body). Use the longest spindle that fits. If the spindle is too short it may disengage when the door is slammed hard. Do not trim the keypad-side spindle - this would disrupt the key override engagement geometry. Cut only from the inside handle side. Detailed spindle fitting instructions by lock type are in the ECP Instruction Segments V2 (page 3).
Monthly: apply a light spray of silicon-based lubricant (GT85 or equivalent) to the keypad face, button surfaces, and lever; wipe off excess immediately. Do not use oil-based lubricants - they attract dust and degrade the coding chamber. Annually: remove the lock from the door and spray internally through the button holes; test all buttons and lever operation; re-fit. This maintenance schedule is required to maintain the 12-month corrosion resistance warranty. Full details in the Borg Servicing Guide.
After any Easicode Pro code change, test the new code at least five times before closing the door. The code change is confirmed only when the lever operates successfully on the new code. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled - doing so will invalidate the warranty. Key Override
Inside the lever handle body of the outside (keypad) unit. There is no separate cylinder below the keypad on the face plate. The cylinder is positioned within the handle itself, and the key entry point is visible on the side or face of the lever depending on the door's handing. This is the defining feature that distinguishes the BL5701 from a standard keypad lock with a separate external cylinder: the face plate stays clean, the override is accessible in a natural gripping position, and the key rotation engages the clutch mechanism directly without a secondary linkage.
Yes, through a locksmith. The factory-fitted cylinder can be replaced with a keyed-alike or master-keyed cylinder to match an existing system. Contact Terry's Locksmiths before ordering if master keying or keyed-alike is required - we can advise which cylinder profiles are compatible with the BL5701 handle geometry. The BL5701 uses a conventional cylinder fitted inside the lever handle, with keys supplied at purchase. The BL7701 uses an SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) cylinder format that matches the Unican 1000/5000 footprint. SFIC allows the core to be swapped by an authorised person without removing the lock from the door - a significant advantage in large commercial buildings with master key programs. If your building uses an SFIC key system (Unican, Best, Medeco), the BL7701 is the correct choice. If not, the BL5701's conventional cylinder is simpler and more economical.
Code Change and Operation
With the door open, enter the current code and rotate the lever to confirm you know the correct code. Insert the Easicode Pro code change key (phi key) into the phi button at the top of the keypad and rotate it 90 degrees clockwise, holding it in position. Press C to clear, then enter the new code digits, press the digits again to confirm, release and remove the key. Press C or rotate the lever to finalise. Test the new code at least five times before closing the door. The code is non-sequential - the buttons can be pressed in any order. Full step-by-step at ECP code change steps.
Use the key override: insert the key into the cylinder in the lever handle and rotate away from the door edge. Once inside, you can change the code to a new one using the phi-button ECP procedure. If you do not have the key, or if the cylinder has been lost, contact Terry's Locksmiths for assistance. Free passage lets the lever turn and the latch retract without entering the code on every use. Enter the code, rotate the lever, then press F while the lever is still rotating. The lever is now free-turning. To exit free passage mode, rotate the lever and press C until you hear an audible click. This is useful during business hours, move-in days, or any period when continuous code-free entry is wanted. It is not a holdback - the latch still engages when the door closes. No. The BL5701 is not fire rated. If you need a fire-rated lock with the ECP code change method in the BL5000 platform, the BL5001 is fire rated (AS1905.1, up to 4hr doorset dependent) but does not include a key override. The BL5771MGPROECP is the back-to-back version with key override on both sides. Note that on the BL5771, the inside handle is also a keypad unit (not a free-turning flat bar lever) - meaning code or key is required to exit from either side. The BL5701 has a free-turning inside lever. If you need code or key to enter from outside but free egress from inside, the BL5701 is correct. If you need controlled access from both sides, the BL5771MGPROECP is the right product. Compare in the Item Code Family table.
A smart lock with key override (such as the Yale Unity) relies on electronics, batteries, and firmware. The BL5701 has no electronics at all - if the door is accessible, the lock will always operate. There is no battery replacement, no app updates, no connectivity dependency. The trade-off is a single PIN (no user management, no audit trail) and no remote access. For an environment where reliability and low maintenance outweigh audit capability, the BL5701 is the better choice. Installation and Fitting
The BL5701 comes with fixings for 35-54mm doors. For thicker doors, an XL fixing kit (BLS275000) may extend the range - confirm with Terry's at order time. The spindle length also needs to be considered: for thicker doors, a longer spindle than the supplied 80mm and 90mm may be needed. Yes. The 60mm backset tubular latch is included. A 70mm backset latch (BLL500070) is available separately and is fire rated. The lock body accepts the 70mm latch without modification to the keypad or inside handle. Use the drilling template (BL5001/BL5401/BL5701 Drilling Template PDF) to mark both 60mm and 70mm positions.
The BL5701 uses an 8mm square drive spindle, which is the standard Australian preparation and is compatible with most existing tubular latch mortices. The drilling template confirms the hole positions. Unlike the BL7701 which is purpose-built to retrofit Unican 1000/5000 cylinders, the BL5701 is a standard new-installation product. - Have your proof of purchase ready (receipt or order confirmation).
- Warranty claims for Borg products in Australia are processed through LSC, the authorised Australian importer and distributor. Where an item is returned to LSC, freight charges must be prepaid and the item returned within the warranty period.
- If LSC finds the returned item to be defective, it will be repaired or replaced, and a detailed assessment report is provided to the customer after examination.
