Carbine Wall Mounted Key Safe - Dial Combination (Small)
The Carbine CKS-W-DI-S is a compact wall mounted key safe with a 4-dial mechanical combination. Its small footprint makes it the right choice where mounting space is limited - on a narrow fence post, recessed entry panel, or tight porch wall - while still providing reliable, weatherproof key storage without any batteries or electronics.
The body is zinc alloy with ABS dials, factory preset at 0-0-0-0 and user-resettable via an internal reset lever. Like all products in the Carbine wall mounted key safe range, it is 48-hour salt spray tested for outdoor corrosion resistance and requires no power source of any kind. For an overview of how mechanical key safes work, see our guide on mechanical key safe technology.
Where the larger CKS-W-DI-L suits high-volume key storage with its flip cover, the CKS-W-DI-S is the compact option - lower profile, less visually conspicuous, and suited to residential or light commercial applications where one to two keys need to be secured at a fixed location.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The CKS-W-DI-S is a fully mechanical product. The 4-dial combination operates with no electronics, no battery, and no power connection of any kind. There is nothing to charge or replace.
The CKS-W-DI-S arrives factory preset at 0-0-0-0. To set your own code: open the door using 0-0-0-0, locate the reset lever inside the safe body, push it from position A to position B, dial in your new combination (e.g. 1-2-3-4), then push the reset lever back from B to A. Close and test before leaving the site. Full illustrated instructions are in the Brochure tab.
Yes. The zinc alloy construction has passed 48-hour salt spray testing. For best results, mount in a sheltered position - under an eave, in a recessed panel, or within a porch - rather than in direct driving rain. Read our notes on coastal key safe maintenance if your site is near salt air.
The internal cavity measures 68 x 27 x 50 mm - suited to one or two standard door keys. It is not designed for bulky key fobs or multiple key sets. If you need to store more keys or larger items, consider the CKS-W-DI-L (Large) with its 4-dial dial mechanism and increased internal capacity, or the CKB-W-NC-XL (Extra Large, camlock ready) for highest capacity.
Dial models (like this one) rotate numbered wheels to a set sequence - simple to use in daylight and straightforward for long-term fixed-code situations. Button models (CKS-W-BUT-L) use numbered push buttons for faster, single-handed access and are better suited to frequent code changes, such as between Airbnb guests. If low-light operation matters, the CKS-W-DI-LED-L adds LED-illuminated dials.
Additional Information
The CKS-W-DI-S is often the preferred option where discretion matters - its smaller body is less visible than larger models and attracts less attention when mounted on a street-facing wall or gate. It is also the practical choice where the mounting surface is narrow (a fence paling, rendered brick pillar, or gate post) and a large unit simply will not fit. If you only need to secure one or two standard door keys and the code changes infrequently, the Small dial model is the lowest-complexity, most reliable solution in the range.
After opening the CKS-W-DI-S, scramble the dials before closing. This prevents an observer from reading the last-used combination from the dial positions. Carbine's brochure specifically recommends scrambling after both opening and closing. The full wall mounting process requires a Pozi/cross-head screwdriver, pencil, spirit level, drill bit, drill, and hammer - allow 15-20 minutes for a first installation. Terry's team can assist with professional installation if required.
The CKS-W-DI-S is ideal for fixed-code, low-change situations. If your access needs grow to include time-limited codes, remote management, or audit logs - for example, managing multiple short-stay properties - a Bluetooth key safe may suit better.
