McGrath MLA02 Single Door Controller with Fingerprint
The McGrath MLA02 is a standalone single-door access controller with integrated fingerprint reader and a tempered glass capacitive touch keypad. Hardwired at 12 volt DC, it controls external locking hardware - electric strikes, magnetic locks, automatic doors, garage doors, sliding gates and boom gates - via relay output. Access is managed by fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card/fob, and Bluetooth eKey through the McGrath Locks App, with optional Wi-Fi remote management via a compatible gateway.
The MLA02 uses a wide landscape aluminium frame housing (79mm wide, 125mm tall, 15.5mm deep) with a full-face black tempered glass touchscreen. It stores up to 20,000 RFID credentials and fingerprints combined, making it suited to high-volume commercial, strata and managed-access installations. It includes a built-in doorbell contact and an exit switch input for egress control.
Usually same day when ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and QLD public holidays).
The MLA02 does not include a latch, deadbolt, or motor. It is an access controller that drives external locking hardware via relay output. A compatible electric strike, magnetic lock, gate motor or automatic door opener must be supplied and wired separately.

The MLA02 is a standalone hardwired access controller. All users, fingerprints, PIN codes and RFID credentials are stored internally and managed via the McGrath Locks App over Bluetooth. When a valid credential is presented, the controller activates its relay to release the connected electric strike, magnetic lock, gate motor or door.
An exit switch (SW) terminal allows a hardwired button to trigger egress from inside without presenting a credential. The doorbell contact (BELL1/BELL2) can be wired to a door bell push for visitor announcement. Adding a compatible gateway enables Wi-Fi remote management from anywhere via the app. For platform guidance see the TTLock Platform Guide and G2 vs G3 vs G4 vs G5 Gateway comparison.
Access Methods
For background on how fingerprint, PIN, RFID and Bluetooth compare in access-control practice, see the Access Methods chapter.

McGrath Locks App
The MLA02 is managed through the McGrath Locks App, McGrath's customised build on the TTLock platform. The app handles fingerprint enrolment, RFID card management, eKey issue and revocation, time-limited and one-time passcodes, scheduling, attendance records, and real-time push notifications. All management is over Bluetooth locally; add a compatible McGrath gateway for remote access from anywhere.
The app is available on Apple and Android devices ![]()
(iOS 7.0 and above, Android 4.4 and above). The TTLock platform also supports Amazon Alexa and Google Home via gateway. See the TTLock Platform Guide and TTLock Tips and Tricks.
Power & Wiring
- Hardwired 12 volt DC input only.
- Relay output: NO / NC / COM terminals.
- Lock output load: less than 2A.
- Standby current: less than 15mA.
- Unlock time: 1 to 1.5 seconds.
- Exit switch (SW) input and IN / OUT terminals included.
- Doorbell contact: BELL1 and BELL2 terminals.
Professional installation is recommended. Our Installation & Troubleshooting chapter covers hardwired access-control considerations, and our site survey and installation service is available on the Gold Coast.
Environment & Construction
- IP65 rated.
- Aluminium frame with full-face tempered glass keypad panel.
- Operating temperature: -20°C to +60°C.
- Operating humidity: 10% to 95% RH.
The manufacturer specifies that a bead of silicone must be applied around the keypad perimeter after installation for optimal weather resistance. If the unit is not installed under an awning or weather-protected overhang, the ML-WP-Shield weather guard should be used in conjunction. IP65 performance depends on correct sealing at installation. See the Australian Standards chapter for background on IP ratings.
Suitable Uses
- Single-door access control for electric strikes, magnetic locks and automatic doors.
- Gate motor control for sliding gates, boom gates and garage doors.
- Commercial and strata installations requiring high credential capacity (up to 20,000) with fingerprint support.
- Managed facilities, offices and shared-access buildings where biometric and card access are both required.
- Installations where a doorbell contact and exit switch at the same entry point simplify cabling.
- Sites wanting offline Bluetooth operation with optional gateway upgrade for Wi-Fi remote management.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. It is an access controller that drives a separately supplied electric strike, magnetic lock, gate motor or automatic door via relay output. The locking hardware must be supplied and wired separately.
Fingerprints are enrolled and managed through the McGrath Locks App via Bluetooth. The device stores fingerprints and RFID credentials in a shared 20,000-entry capacity pool. For fingerprint management tips, see TTLock Tips and Tricks.
No. It communicates locally via Bluetooth 4.1. Remote Wi-Fi management requires a separately purchased McGrath gateway - see the Gateway Comparison chapter and the G2 vs G3 vs G4 vs G5 comparison.
IP65 performance requires a bead of silicone applied around the keypad perimeter after installation. The manufacturer also recommends the ML-WP-Shield weather guard if the unit is not installed under an awning or covered overhang. Without this sealing, the IP65 rating cannot be relied upon in exposed outdoor positions.
The MLA02F is a different form factor entirely — a wider landscape-format housing (79mm wide) with an aluminium frame and full-face glass. The MLA02-S is a slim portrait controller (43.5mm wide). The MLA02F adds fingerprint, has a 20,000-entry capacity, accepts only 12V DC (not 12-18V), and reads only 13.56MHz MIFARE (no 125KHz EM dual frequency).
McGrath smart locks and access control are backed by long-established Australian industry partners and supported locally by Terry's. Read Why Terry's, LSC and McGrath Locks Give Long-Term Confidence, or see the McGrath section of our Brand Profiles chapter.
Additional Information
The MLA02F is the fingerprint-enabled member of the MLA02 access controller family. Its defining combination is fingerprint + 20,000-entry shared credential pool + landscape aluminium housing — which makes it the most capable access controller in the McGrath range for sites requiring both biometric and card-based access at volume.
Where the TGFP43 stores 100 fingerprints and the TGFP70 stores 500 fingerprints, the MLA02F's 20,000 shared pool across all credential types makes it more appropriate for large-scale multi-user environments. However, unlike the TGFP70, the MLA02F does not have built-in Wi-Fi — a gateway is required for remote access. The installation note about silicone sealing is also an important practical difference from the IP66 controllers in the range. For buyers comparing access-control platforms, the App Platforms chapter and Which App Platform Is Right for You are the recommended starting points.
