McGrath RBB56 Wireless Battery-Powered Keypad - Metal Construction - IP65 - Silver
The McGrath RBB56 is a battery-powered wireless keypad and RFID reader designed to extend PIN and card access to compatible McGrath smart locks or access controllers. It communicates with the paired device via Bluetooth 5.4 BLE and is managed entirely through the McGrath Locks App.
Commonly used for gates, garages, secondary entry points and outdoor installations where the primary lock or controller is located internally or out of reach, the RBB56 provides a surface-mounted wireless input point up to 8 to 10 metres from the paired device. Its zinc alloy construction and IP65 rating make it suited to exposed outdoor positions. It is powered by 3 x AAA alkaline batteries with no wiring required.
Usually same day when ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and QLD public holidays).

The RBB56 does not contain a latch, deadbolt, motor, or relay. It must be paired with a compatible McGrath smart lock or access controller to function. It provides an external input point for the paired device; it does not independently control any locking hardware.
Key Features
- Wireless external keypad and RFID reader - pairs with compatible McGrath smart locks and access controllers.
- Communicates via Bluetooth 5.4 BLE with an external BLE antenna.
- Provides PIN code and RFID card/fob access - mirrors the paired device's user database.
- No wiring required - powered by 3 x AAA alkaline batteries (not included).
- Battery life up to 18 months (based on approximately 10 uses per day).
- Operating range of 8 to 10 metres from the paired device.
- One keypad can be paired with up to three McGrath devices simultaneously.
- A single McGrath lock or controller can be paired with one keypad only.
- Zinc alloy metal construction, IP65 rated for outdoor installation.
- Managed entirely through the McGrath Locks App.
- Supplied with 2 x RFID fobs.
The RBB56 does not store users, make access decisions, or control any locking hardware on its own. When a PIN or RFID credential is entered at the keypad, the RBB56 sends the request wirelessly via Bluetooth to the paired McGrath lock or controller. That device validates the credential against its own user database and - if valid - triggers its own latch, relay, or motor to grant access.
All users, credentials, schedules, and access rules are managed in the McGrath Locks App under the paired device, not the keypad. Adding or revoking a user in the app immediately affects what works at the RBB56. Because it is an accessory to the paired device, the RBB56 inherits exactly the same PIN capacity, RFID capacity, and access rules as whatever it is paired with.
Access Methods
For background on how Bluetooth, RFID and PIN each work in practice, see the Access Methods chapter of our Smart Lock Buyer's Guide.

McGrath Locks App
The RBB56 is managed through the McGrath Locks App, McGrath's customised build on the TTLock platform (also TTHotel). All pairing, credential management, and access control for the RBB56 is performed from within the app under the paired lock or controller's settings - not the keypad directly. The app is available on Apple and Android devices ![]()
(iOS 7.0 and above, Android 4.3 and above). For day-to-day platform guidance see the TTLock Platform Guide and TTLock Tips and Tricks.
The RBB56 does not have built-in Wi-Fi. Remote access and management over the internet depends entirely on whether the paired McGrath lock or controller supports a gateway connection. If the paired device is connected to a gateway, remote management flows through that gateway to the keypad's paired device. For guidance on available McGrath gateway options and selection, see the Gateway Comparison chapter or the G2 vs G3 vs G4 vs G5 Gateways comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The RBB56 is a wireless keypad accessory, not a standalone access controller. It must be paired with a compatible McGrath smart lock or access controller. The paired device does all the user validation and controls the locking hardware.
One RBB56 can be paired with up to three McGrath locks or controllers simultaneously. However, each individual lock or controller can only accept one wireless keypad. If you try to add the keypad to a fourth device, you will need to remove it from one of the existing three first.
The RBB56 does not store users itself. Its capacity mirrors exactly whatever the paired McGrath lock or controller supports. If your paired device holds 150 PIN codes, the RBB56 also provides access to all 150 of those codes. Credentials are added and managed through the McGrath Locks App under the paired device's settings.
Battery life is rated at up to 18 months based on approximately 10 uses per day. The McGrath Locks App will alert you when the battery is running low. Terry's recommends Duracell batteries for consistent performance. Batteries are not included.
The RBB56 itself has no Wi-Fi. Remote management is possible only if the paired McGrath lock or controller is connected to a compatible gateway. If that device is gateway-connected, management flows through the gateway to the paired device and its associated keypad. For gateway options, see the Gateway Comparison chapter or the G2 vs G3 vs G4 vs G5 comparison.
McGrath smart locks and accessories are backed by long-established Australian industry partners and supported locally by Terry's. Additional Information
The RBB56 fills a specific gap: it is the only product in the McGrath keypad range that runs on batteries and does not require any wiring at the mounting position. This makes it the right choice when you have a McGrath smart lock or controller installed on the internal face of a gate, garage door, or entry point, and you need an external keypad where 12 volt cabling is impractical.
Because it is an accessory to a paired device, the RBB56 should be chosen in combination with a compatible McGrath lock or controller. The three hardwired standalone access-control keypads in the McGrath range - TGFP43, TGFP70 and RBH52 - are the self-contained alternatives when you want a single device that controls the lock and provides keypad access in one unit. For buyers comparing McGrath with other platform-based smart lock ecosystems, see the App Platforms chapter and Which App Platform Is Right for You.
