The McGrath RBB56 is a battery-powered wireless keypad and RFID reader designed and supplied specifically as an accessory for the McGrath Locks Z Chip. It communicates with the paired Z Chip via Bluetooth 5.4 BLE and is managed entirely through the McGrath Locks App.
Commonly used for gates, garages and secondary entry points where the Z Chip is mounted internally or out of reach, the RBB56 provides a surface-mounted wireless input point up to 8 to 10 metres from the paired device. Its zinc alloy construction and IP65 rating make it suited to exposed outdoor positions. It is powered by 3 x AAA alkaline batteries with no wiring required.

The RBB56 does not contain a latch, deadbolt, motor or relay - it cannot function as a standalone lock or access controller. It is designed and supplied specifically as a wireless accessory keypad for the McGrath Locks Z Chip and pairs with Z Chip devices only.
It does not pair with McGrath's other smart locks or with smart locks from any other brand. If you already own a different McGrath lock (or a lock from another manufacturer) and want to add a wireless PIN/RFID keypad to it, the RBB56 is not the right product for that job - check with us before ordering. The RBB56 does not store users, make access decisions, or control any locking hardware on its own. When a PIN or RFID credential is entered at the keypad, the RBB56 sends the request wirelessly via Bluetooth to the paired McGrath Locks Z Chip. The Z Chip validates the credential against its own user database and - if valid - switches its relay to grant access to whatever it is wired to (a gate, garage door, electric strike, or roller door).
All users, credentials, schedules, and access rules are managed in the McGrath Locks App under the paired Z Chip, not the keypad. Adding or revoking a user in the app immediately affects what works at the RBB56. Because it is an accessory to the Z Chip, the RBB56 inherits exactly the same PIN capacity, RFID capacity, and access rules as the Z Chip it is paired with.

McGrath Locks App
The RBB56 is managed through the McGrath Locks App, McGrath's customised build on the TTLock platform (also TTHotel). All pairing, credential management, and access control for the RBB56 is performed from within the app under the paired Z Chip's settings - not the keypad directly. The app is available on Apple and Android devices ![]()

The McGrath Locks App and the underlying TTLock platform are managed, supported and distributed locally in Australia by LSC and Terry's - not left to an overseas app store listing with no local backup.
The RBB56 does not have built-in Wi-Fi. Remote access and management over the internet depends entirely on whether the paired Z Chip is connected to a McGrath gateway (G3, G4 or G5). If the Z Chip is gateway-connected, remote management flows through that gateway to the Z Chip and, through it, to the RBB56's own credentials. RBB56 vs RBH52 - Which Should You Choose?
The RBB56 and the RBH52 are easy to confuse because they look similar and sit in the same part of the range, but they solve different problems. The RBB56 is a wireless accessory that only ever works through a paired McGrath Locks Z Chip. The RBH52 is a complete, self-contained 12 volt controller with its own built-in relay, so it interfaces far more widely - it wires directly to almost any compatible electric strike, magnetic lock, gate motor, garage door or automated door, with no Z Chip or other McGrath device required at all.
Choose the RBB56 only if you already have, or are also buying, a McGrath Locks Z Chip - it has no function without one. Choose the RBH52 if you want one self-contained device that interfaces with a much wider range of hardware on its own - electric strikes, magnetic locks, gate motors, garage doors and automated doors - without needing any other McGrath product.

- Buy it alongside, or to add to, a Z Chip - not as a general McGrath keypad. The RBB56 only makes sense as a purchase when you have (or are also buying) a McGrath Locks Z Chip. It is not a general-purpose McGrath accessory and will not add wireless PIN/RFID access to any other McGrath lock you may already own.
- Firmware matters for multi-device pairing. Pairing one keypad to more than one Z Chip (up to three) requires the keypad to be running firmware 7.0.035.260319 or later. If your keypad predates this, check the McGrath Locks App for a firmware update before attempting to add it to a second or third Z Chip.
- Fills a specific gap in the range. It is the only product in the McGrath keypad range that runs on batteries and requires no wiring at the mounting position - the right choice when a Z Chip is installed on the internal face of a gate, garage door or entry point and 12 volt cabling to an external keypad position is impractical.
- Hardwired standalone alternatives exist. The TGFP43, TGFP70 and RBH52 are self-contained alternatives when you want a single device that controls the lock and provides keypad access in one unit, with no Z Chip needed. Compatibility and Pairing
No - and this is the single most important thing to know before buying it. The RBB56 is built and sold as a dedicated accessory for the McGrath Locks Z Chip only. It has been tested against McGrath's other smart locks and against smart locks from other manufacturers, and it does not pair with any of them. If a listing or a generic McGrath support document implies broader compatibility, treat this page and the Z Chip pairing requirement as the accurate scope.
No. Only the McGrath Locks Z Chip can be paired with the RBB56. If you have a different McGrath lock and want wireless PIN/RFID entry, speak to us before ordering - a standalone keypad such as the RBH52 may suit your situation better, since it works on its own rather than pairing to another device.

McGrath rates the RBB56 at 8 to 10 metres from the paired Z Chip. That is a line-of-sight figure - masonry walls, metal gates and dense foliage will reduce it in practice. For a garage or gate installation, keep the Z Chip and keypad on the same side of any thick wall where possible, or budget for a shorter practical range.

Remote Access & Gateway
No - the keypad and its paired Z Chip talk to each other over Bluetooth and work perfectly well with no internet connection at all, as long as you are within Bluetooth range with the app open. A gateway (G3, G4 or G5) becomes necessary only if you want to add or manage users, or check activity, from outside Bluetooth range - and the gateway attaches to the Z Chip, not the RBB56 itself. Installation, Configuration & Troubleshooting
If the keypad has never been added to a Z Chip, install the batteries and either press any button or enter *529# to enter configuration mode. If it is already paired to a Z Chip and not yet at its three-device limit, enter *529# followed by the six-digit administrator password of any lock it is currently paired with, then #.
To add: put the keypad into configuration mode, open the McGrath Locks App and select the Z Chip, then go to Settings > Wireless Keypad > Add Wireless Keypad and follow the prompts. To remove: put the keypad into configuration mode, open the app and select the Z Chip the keypad is paired with, go to Settings > Wireless Keypad, then swipe left on the keypad entry (or long-press it) and tap Delete, following the in-app prompts to finish.
This usually means the keypad is still registered to a previous Z Chip and has reached a limit, or the two devices are mid-handshake. Remove the keypad from its existing pairing first, confirm it is genuinely in configuration mode, then try adding it to the new Z Chip again.
Suitability & Alternatives
Adding a battery-powered, no-wiring-required PIN/RFID input point to a Z Chip that is mounted internally or out of reach - typically a gate, garage door or secondary entry point where running 12 volt cable to the outside face is impractical.
If you want a single device that provides both the lock/relay function and keypad access without pairing to anything else, choose a standalone controller instead - the TGFP43 (slimline, fingerprint), TGFP70 (built-in Wi-Fi, large user capacity) or RBH52 (built-in Wi-Fi with external antenna) are all hardwired, self-contained options. How to Make a Claim
- Contact Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries (the place of purchase) within the applicable warranty period.
- Supply your proof of original purchase - a receipt or tax invoice is required.

- You may be asked to return the product for assessment before a remedy is determined.
