Fire Door Compliance
The Lockwood 002-4KDXSC should not be described as automatically fire compliant in every installation. Fire performance belongs to the complete tested doorset - the door, frame, strike arrangement, latch preparation and the installation itself - so no lock is fire compliant on its own.
Two Digital DX details are safety-critical on fire doors. First, Lockwood's service information states the keypad must be fitted without the rubber mounting pad - small installation details like this can affect the compliance of the finished doorset. Second, the holdback function must never be engaged on a fire door - a held-open latch defeats the self-latching a fire door relies on. Our guide explains why hold-back is never used on fire doors.

Code Control - How the Code Works and How to Change It
The 002DX runs one shared 4, 5 or 6 digit code. The code lives in a mechanical tumbler chamber behind the keypad - there is no memory chip and nothing to reset electronically. Because it is a chamber rather than a sequence, each digit is used once per code and the digits can be pressed in any order; the C button always clears a wrong entry and cannot be part of the code. Changing the code is a bench job, and honestly a fiddly one: the keypad comes off the door, the backplate comes off, and the code tumblers are repositioned before it all goes back together. Codes and Everyday Use
Press C to clear anything already entered, press your code digits, then turn the keypad knob - the deadlatch retracts and the door opens. The code cancels automatically as the knob is operated, so the lock is never left sitting on an entered code, and the deadlatch relatches behind you as the door closes.
That is the clutching action, and it is deliberate. Until a valid code is entered, the knob freewheels rather than driving the latch, so forcing or wrenching it transfers no load into the mechanism. It is one of the reasons these locks survive high-use commercial doors for decades.
Any 4, 5 or 6 digit code, with each digit used once per code. Because the code lives in a tumbler chamber rather than a sequence, the digits are order-independent - 2580 and 0852 open the same chamber - so pick digits, not patterns. Choosing Your Variant
Two questions settle it: what do you want on the inside of the door, and which way does the door swing? This page is the 002-4KDXSC - knob inside, for doors opening outwards. The other three configurations: 002-1LDXSC (lever, open-in), 002-1KDXSC (knob, open-in), 002-4LDXSC (lever, open-out). The keypad side is the same on all four - only the internal furniture and the strike arrangement change.
You do not order it by hand. The 002 deadlatch platform is made to suit left- and right-hung doors by rotating the bolt head - but that is a bench adjustment done during installation, not a user-serviceable on-door flip, so treat it as the installer's job. What you must get right at ordering is the door swing (opening-in vs opening-out) and the inside handle. No 002DX variant has a key override - entry is code only, with free exit from inside. The 002DX is a deadlatch: it self-latches locked behind you every time, which is the behaviour shared-access and staff doors usually want. The 530DXSC is the DX keypad on a 530 tubular latch entrance set - the alternative for standard entrance preparations, with a double keypad version for coded entry from both sides. The 002DX suits doors from 32mm to 45mm thick, on a 60mm backset. If you are replacing an existing deadlatch, measure before you order - two minutes with our backset measuring guide settles it, and here is why the wrong backset hurts. Doors outside the thickness range are a talk-to-us-first situation, not an after-delivery discovery.
On a fresh timber door, a confident DIYer with the DX Digital Service Manual in hand can do it - but the details matter: the door preparation must be accurate, the spindle is cut to length to suit the door, and a frame strengthener is typically fitted at the strike to carry the load. Fire Doors and Egress
Not automatically - fire performance belongs to the complete tested doorset (leaf, frame, lock, strike, preparation and installation together), so no lock is fire compliant on its own. Two Digital DX details are safety-critical: the keypad must be fitted without the rubber mounting pad on fire door applications (Lockwood service information), and the holdback must never be engaged on a fire door. Lockwood branded products are covered by manufacturer warranties issued by ASSA ABLOY Australia Pty Ltd. Warranty periods vary by product type, with separate cover for mechanical components, electrical and electronic parts, keys, and finishes.

- Stainless steel, polished stainless steel, chrome plating and anodised finishes: typically up to 10 years.
- PVD and VIVID finishes: typically up to 10 years.
- Symmetry range finishes: typically up to 5 years.
- Decorative finishes (Antique Copper, Architectural Bronze, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Aged Brass, Polished Brass, Satin Brass and related variants): typically up to 2 years against corrosion.
- Unlacquered brass finishes naturally age and change appearance over time. This is not considered a defect.
- Tea staining of stainless steel is not covered where the required cleaning and maintenance have not been followed.
