FORGE H4 Outdoor Lever Smart Lock - IP65, Fingerprint, TTLock
At A Glance
(Add G5 Gateway)
The FORGE H4 Outdoor Lever Smart Lock (FELKGH2) is a TTLock smart lever lock for outdoor-facing doors. The outside handle carries a fingerprint reader, PIN keypad, card reader and doorbell button; the inside handle is a plain lever. The handles and lock set are 304 stainless steel, in matt black (FELKGH2B) or brushed stainless steel (FELKGH2S).
It suits timber and aluminium doors 35-64 mm thick and fits a mortice that FORGE makes in seven backsets from 28 to 60 mm - you choose yours at checkout. It runs on 4 x AAA alkaline batteries that FORGE rates at about 6 to 10 months, with a USB-C emergency power port and a mechanical key under the outside handle.
FORGE rates the outside handle IP65 for general outdoor conditions - rain, sun and dust - and recommends a rain cover where the door takes the weather head-on. Add the FORGE TTLock G5 gateway (sold separately) for remote unlocking and code management from anywhere. It is made in China for FORGE, an Australian brand based in Ringwood, Victoria, and carries FORGE's 2-year warranty.
Usually ships in 24 hours.

Access Methods

TTLock App
Set the lock up in the free TTLock app, available for iOS and Android ![]()
. Choose Australia as your location when you sign up, give the app full permissions and turn Bluetooth on. Until the first administrator is added the lock is in its factory state - the default admin code is 123456 and any fingerprint will open it - so pair it as soon as it is fitted. FORGE's TTLock pairing guide shows the steps; keep your phone within 2 metres while pairing. The introduction pages of the manual cover the same ground for this model.
TTLock is one of the two global smart lock platforms - how it compares with Tuya is set out in our TTLock vs Tuya comparison, and the wider TTLock range in Chapter 14 - the TTLock hardware ecosystem. The app itself is covered in the TTLock app user manual.
Without a gateway the H4 is managed over Bluetooth when your phone is within about 5-10 metres - see what a TTLock lock can do without Wi-Fi. FORGE offers the FORGE TTLock G5 gateway as the add-on for remote Wi-Fi management and unlocking: with it plugged in within range you can unlock on demand from anywhere, change codes, check records and set a passage-mode schedule remotely - Bluetooth vs gateway in Chapter 14. Remote Unlock has to be switched on in the app and Power Saving Mode turned off (manual page 18).
Key Features
- Fingerprint (up to 100), PIN code (up to 150) and RFID card (up to 200 M1 cards) on the outside handle, plus the TTLock app and a mechanical key - compare them in Chapter 03.
- Bluetooth unlock from the TTLock app within about 5-10 metres; add the G5 gateway for Wi-Fi remote access from anywhere (the G5 gateway explained).
- Handles and lock set in 304 stainless steel - matt black or brushed stainless - with ABS housings for the electronics.
- A doorbell button built into the outside keypad.
- Mortice lock with the latch on top and the deadbolt below; lift the handle to throw the deadbolt. FORGE makes the mortice in seven backsets from 28 to 60 mm - choose yours at checkout (how a mortice latch works).
- 4 x AAA alkaline batteries rated at about 6 to 10 months, a USB-C emergency power port and a mechanical key - what happens when the battery dies.
- Forced Fingerprint - a duress fingerprint that opens the lock and sends the administrator an alarm notification. It is for emergencies, not daily use.
- Passcodes, fingerprints and cards can be permanent, time-limited or recurring; passcodes can also be one-time.
- Passage Mode with an optional schedule set in TTLock - useful for offices and shops during opening hours (what passage mode does).
- Reversible handing - both handles turn to suit left- or right-hand doors, and the latch turns around for the closing direction.
- After five wrong attempts in a row the lock ignores all input for 90 seconds, and it goes back to sleep after 20 seconds without use.
- Outside handle rated IP65 for general outdoor conditions; one of our front-door smart locks and app-enabled smart locks.

Suitable Uses
- Front, back and side doors that face the weather - see where they sit in the door type compatibility matrix.
- Timber and aluminium doors 35-64 mm thick, with a stile wide enough for the mortice backset you choose.
- Doors where people must be able to walk out freely - the inside lever always opens.
- Rentals, offices and staff entrances - a code or card per person, time-limited or recurring, managed remotely once a G5 gateway is added (see short-stay platforms in our platform guide).
- Shops and offices that want the door free during opening hours with a scheduled Passage Mode.
- Doors thinner than 35 mm or thicker than 64 mm.
- Gates or doors where someone could reach the inside lever over the top or through glass - anyone who can reach it can open the door. Choose a double-sided lock such as the FORGE H1S or H10D (the single-sided problem).
- Doors fully exposed to driving rain - FORGE recommends a rain cover, and for an exposed site an IP66 lock such as the FORGE RD1T rim lock.
- Fire-rated doors - FORGE does not quote a fire rating for the H4; see the FORGE fire-rated commercial lock.
- Pool barrier gates - FORGE does not state that this lock meets pool-barrier requirements (pool gates explained).

Door Fit, Mortice and Backset
Choose your mortice backset at checkout. FORGE makes the H4 mortice in backsets of 28, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 60 mm, measured from the edge of the door (or the mortice faceplate) to the centre of the lock. Choose the one that suits the width of your door stile - how to measure backset and measuring stile width.
FORGE's installation template marks the mortice pocket (180 x 18 mm), the faceplate recess (241 x 23 mm, 3 mm deep), the strike and the holes through the door; it is a reference, so adjust it to the backset you order. When fitting, cut the spindle so it stands about 15 mm proud of the inside face of the door (manual page 9).
- Door stile width at the lock - the width of the door stile or frame where the lock goes, which has to take the 54 mm-wide lock body and the mortice. It is not the overall width of the door.
- Door thickness - the finished thickness of the door. The H4 suits 35-64 mm.
- Closed gap at the latch - measure between the door edge and the jamb or strike with the door shut. FORGE recommends 10 mm or less; the latch projects 12 mm.
- FORGE's checklist - confirm the door thickness, mortice selection, backset, spindle length and installation clearances before ordering. Send us your measurements or a photo of the door edge and we will check the backset with you.

FORGE Outdoor Smart Locks
This product is in bold. Capacities differ across the range: the H4 stores up to 100 fingerprints, 150 passcodes and 200 cards; the H60 TTLock version 100, 250 and 1,000 and its Forge Smart version 50, 100 and 100; the RD1T 100 fingerprints, 250 passcodes and 1,000 cards, and the RD1 100 fingerprints plus 300 passcodes and cards combined. The H4 and the H1, H1S, H10D and H10S gate locks are sold with a choice of mortice backsets at checkout; the H60 has a fixed 60 mm backset and the RD1T mounts on the surface with no mortice.
Accessories and Spares
Other gateways and bridges are in the modules and Wi-Fi gateways category, and more cards and fobs in the RFID credentials range.
Battery and Emergency Power
The H4 runs on 4 x AAA alkaline batteries behind the cover on the inside handle - alkaline only, not NiMH or lithium-ion rechargeables (manual page 11). FORGE rates them at about 6 to 10 months, depending on use. When they run low the lock warns you as you unlock, with roughly 50 to 100 unlocks left - replace them then. If they do go flat, open the door with the mechanical key or power the lock through the USB-C port beside the keyhole under the outside handle. Use a USB-A to USB-C cable from a power bank - a USB-C to USB-C cable can make the power bank treat the lock as a fast-charge device and not supply power (manual page 20). More on what really affects battery life and power and battery FAQs.

Weather Rating - IP65 Outside Handle
FORGE rates the H4's outside handle IP65 for general outdoor conditions - rain, sun and dust. The rating does not cover driving rain, hail, constant salt spray, flooding or immersion, and FORGE recommends a rain cover where the lock is exposed (non-warranty disclaimer); water damage beyond IP65 is not covered by the warranty. Fit the silicone base pads flush against the door so the seal works. The inside handle, which holds the batteries, is for interior use. On the coast, read coastal environments and what corrosion grades mean.

Platform and Data
Platform. The H4 runs on TTLock - Bluetooth to your phone, with the TTLock G5 gateway for remote access. The FORGE H60 and RD1 rim lock are also sold in Forge Smart (Tuya) versions with Wi-Fi built in, if you would rather not add a gateway.
Where your data goes. TTLock is run by Sciener, a Chinese company. Accounts outside China use TTLock's out-of-China servers; where that infrastructure is hosted, and which region Australian accounts use, is not published - in short, a Chinese company's servers, location unpublished. For the platform-by-platform picture see where each smart lock platform hosts its data, and for TTLock's security record see Chapter 14 - TTLock security.
Installation
The H4 fits a mortice into the edge of the door and clamps the two handles together through it, with a data cable running between them. FORGE's template is a reference to adjust to the backset you order, and the installation section of the manual runs through each step with drawings.
- Fit the mortice with the latch facing the closing direction - latch on top, deadbolt below. To reverse the latch, lift the flap, push the latch in below the faceplate and turn it 180 degrees (manual page 6).
- The handles point towards the hinge. To change the outside handle, undo the screw under the spindle hub, turn the handle and re-tighten - the orientation mark on the hub must point the same way as the handle or the lock will not lock (manual page 7). On the inside handle, take the spring off the hub first, then turn the handle and refit the spring (manual page 8).
- Seat the silicone base pads flush against the door for weather sealing, and cut the spindle so it stands about 15 mm proud of the inside face of the door (manual page 9; the spindle mistake in Chapter 12).
- Use AAA alkaline batteries only. Afterwards check that the outside handle stays locked, lifting a handle throws the deadbolt, 123456# plus the handle unlocks, and the key turned 90 degrees unlocks (manual page 11; misalignment causes).
- Not sure about doing it yourself? See when to DIY and when to call an installer - Terry's offers installation across the Gold Coast.
Which way a door is handed is explained in how to tell which way your door or gate opens.
Frequently Asked Questions
Not for everyday use. Fingerprint, PIN and card entry work with no phone at all, and the app works over Bluetooth within about 5-10 metres. Add the FORGE TTLock G5 gateway if you want to unlock, change codes or check records from away from home - what a gateway actually does.
It depends on the width of the door stile where the lock goes - the 54 mm lock body has to sit on the stile and the mortice has to fit inside it. FORGE makes the H4 mortice in backsets from 28 to 60 mm, and you choose yours at checkout. Measure the stile at the lock, the door thickness and the closed gap at the latch (10 mm or less) - see Door Fit and measuring your lock backset - or send us photos and we will check it.
Yes - the inside lever has no keypad and always opens the door. That suits exits, but it also means anyone who can reach the inside lever can open the door; on a gate you can reach over, choose a double-sided lock such as the H1S or H10D.
You get a voice warning first, with roughly 50 to 100 unlocks left. If they do go flat, use the mechanical key or connect a power bank to the USB-C port beside the keyhole with a USB-A to USB-C cable, then replace the four AAA alkaline batteries.
FORGE rates the outside handle IP65 for general outdoor conditions and recommends a rain cover where the door is exposed - driving rain, hail and salt spray are outside the rating. Under a porch or eave is ideal; for a fully exposed gate or door, an IP66 lock is the safer choice.
Additional Information
- Register an administrator straight away. Until the first administrator is added in the app, the default admin code is 123456 and any fingerprint will open the lock. A factory reset puts it back into that state.
- Choose the right backset at checkout. The mortice backset has to suit the door stile - measure it as the Door Fit section shows before you choose; the wrong one will not fit.
- Set the hub mark and cut the spindle. A spindle-hub mark pointing the wrong way, or a spindle left too long, is the usual reason a newly fitted lever lock will not lock.
- Keep the mechanical keys away from the door - in the house or the car - so they are there if the batteries fail (key storage ideas).
- Alkaline only. The H4 takes four AAA alkaline batteries; FORGE warns against NiMH and lithium-ion rechargeables.
Warranty
2-year FORGE warranty from the date of delivery - covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Excludes improper installation or maintenance, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear (including fading or dulling of finishes) and water damage beyond the product's rated IP protection. Proof of purchase required for all claims. Returns & Warranty | FORGE warranty terms

FORGE H4 Outdoor Lever Smart Lock - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide
Everything below is here to help you choose, fit, set up and live with the FORGE H4. For general smart lock questions see our Smart Lock FAQ (Chapter 13), and for measuring and fitting the Buyer's Guide.
Choosing a FORGE Outdoor Lock
The H4 is the stainless steel lever lock: keypad outside, a choice of mortice backsets from 28 to 60 mm, doors 35-64 mm thick, 4 x AAA batteries and IP65 on the outside handle. The H60 is a wider glass-keypad handle set with IP65 on both panels, a fixed 60 mm backset, doors 40-110 mm and 8 x AA batteries. The RD1T is a surface-mounted rim lock rated IP66 inside and out that locks itself when the door closes. The H60 and RD1T are also sold in Forge Smart (Tuya) versions.
Single-sided for credentials: the keypad, fingerprint reader and card reader are on the outside handle, and the inside lever always opens the door. For a gate someone can reach over, FORGE's double-sided gate locks - the H1S, H10D and H1 - keep both sides locked.
Only the colour - matt black (FELKGH2B) or brushed stainless steel (FELKGH2S). Both are 304 stainless steel with the same electronics and capacities.
Door Fit, Backset and Mortice
FORGE makes the H4 mortice in 28, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 60 mm backsets. Choose the one that suits the width of your door stile at checkout - the Door Fit section on this page shows how to measure.
35-64 mm, timber or aluminium. Outside that range the handles will not clamp correctly through the door.
The handles are 53.5 mm wide (FORGE's calculator works with a 54 mm lock body) and 283.5 mm tall. The stile has to take that width as well as the mortice for the backset you choose.
FORGE recommends a closed gap of 10 mm or less between the door edge and the jamb or strike - the latch projects 12 mm.
Credentials and Access
Press the finger firmly on the sensor several times when prompted, moving it slightly each time so the lock captures different areas. Avoid wet fingers. Older people can have flatter fingerprints - register the same finger more than once. Children's fingerprints change as they grow, so update them every few months or give them a passcode.
A duress fingerprint. You register it like any other, but when it is used the administrator receives an alarm notification. It is meant for an emergency where someone is forcing you to open the door, not for daily use.
Four: time-limited, one-time (it must be used within 6 hours of being created), permanent and recurring. Time-limited, permanent and recurring codes must be used once within 24 hours of their start time or the lock suspends them. Codes are generated by the app and can be customised afterwards, 4 to 9 digits (manual page 14; Chapter 14 - passcode types).
M1 (MIFARE 1K) cards, up to 200. Two come in the box, and extra FORGE MIFARE 1K cards are sold separately.
An eKey gives another TTLock account the right to unlock - time-limited, one-time, permanent or recurring - with options for remote unlock, an unlock link that works without the app, or near-administrator rights (TTLock eKeys).
After five wrong attempts in a row the lock ignores all input for 90 seconds. The keypad goes back to sleep after 20 seconds without use.
Remote Access and the G5 Gateway
Only for remote use. Fingerprint, PIN and card entry work with no phone at all, and the app works over Bluetooth within about 5-10 metres. Add the FORGE TTLock G5 gateway to unlock on demand, change codes or check records from away from home - what a gateway actually does and the G5 explained.
Plug it in indoors within Bluetooth range of the lock, on a 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network - the closer the better, with as few walls as possible in between. If the lock keeps dropping off, see the real fixes for Wi-Fi dropouts and gateway placement.
Remote Unlock must be switched on for the lock in the app, and Power Saving Mode turned off (manual page 18). Check that the gateway shows the lock in range.
Yes - FORGE offers the FORGE TTLock Bluetooth remote as an add-on for the H4. It unlocks at close range without the app or a code.
Power and Batteries
Four AAA alkaline batteries behind the cover on the inside handle - FORGE rates them at about 6 to 10 months. Do not use NiMH or lithium-ion rechargeables.
Connect a power bank to the USB-C port beside the keyhole under the outside handle with a USB-A to USB-C cable, then unlock as normal (manual page 20). The mechanical key is the other backup.
Installation and Troubleshooting
Two things cause most cases: the orientation mark on the outside spindle hub must point the same way as the handle, and the spindle must stand only about 15 mm proud of the inside face of the door. Check the mortice latch faces the closing direction too (manual page 7; manual page 9).
Yes. The handles point towards the hinge; undo the screw under each spindle hub, turn the handle and re-tighten - on the inside handle take the spring off first. Reverse the latch if the closing direction changes (how to tell your door handing).
Remove the battery cover on the inside handle, hold the reset button and enter 000#. The lock returns to its factory state - re-add an administrator in TTLock straight away (manual page 19).
App and Setup
Download TTLock, register with Australia as your location, allow the permissions and turn Bluetooth on. Touch the keypad to wake the lock, then add it in the app with your phone close by - the first person to add it becomes the administrator (manual page 12; pairing guide).
Turn it on in TTLock (Settings - Passage Mode) and set the periods. Once the lock has been unlocked by hand during a passage period it stays unlocked until the period ends, then locks again.
