FORGE RD1T Outdoor Smart Rim Lock - IP66, TTLock or Forge Smart
At A Glance
(Wi-Fi Version)
(G5 or Wi-Fi)
The FORGE RD1T Outdoor Smart Rim Lock is a surface-mounted, motorised rim lock for outdoor doors and pedestrian gates: a fingerprint, PIN and card keypad on the outside, a rim lock on the inside, and FORGE's IP66 rating on both the keypad and the rim lock. It locks itself - sensors on the rim lock and the latch receiver throw the latch as soon as the door or gate closes. It comes in two versions: FERMOTTA on the TTLock app and FERMOTYA on Forge Smart (Tuya) with Wi-Fi built in.
Because the lock body sits on the inside face rather than in a mortice, fitting it takes a few drilled holes instead of a pocket - FORGE's pick for retrofits. Both units must sit on a continuous flat surface, at least 160 x 186 mm where a lock box is used, on doors and gates 35-70 mm thick. Power is 4 x AA alkaline batteries, rated by FORGE at about 9 months, with a USB-C emergency port and a mechanical key.
Smart access is from the outside only - FORGE points to its RD6 rim lock where a keypad is needed on both sides. The RD1T is made in China for FORGE, an Australian brand based in Ringwood, Victoria, and carries FORGE's 2-year warranty.
Usually ships in 24 hours.
Owned by FORGE Electrical (Australia) · Manufactured in China. Our independent FORGE brand profile sets out how the range compares with the other brands we stock.
Access Methods
From the inside, press the automatic unlock button on the rim lock or turn its knob - no credential is needed to get out.

App Platform - TTLock or Forge Smart (Tuya)
The RD1T is sold in two versions, and the difference is the app platform and how the lock reaches the internet. Choose the version when you order - they use different radios and apps. The FORGE manual for the RD1T is written for the TTLock version; the Forge Smart version is set up in FORGE's own app.
Set it up in the free TTLock app for iOS and Android
Wi-Fi is built into the Forge Smart RD1, so it joins your 2.4 GHz network directly with no gateway, and it is managed in FORGE's Forge Smart app on the Tuya platform - see the Forge Smart (Tuya) platform in Chapter 15. Per FORGE's published comparison, remote unlock on Forge Smart locks is request-based: someone at the lock asks to come in and you approve it in the app - there is no unlocking on demand from off-site, no scheduled passage mode in the app, no Alexa or Google, no API and no hand-held remote. Remote passcodes, entry records and Tuya automations work from anywhere. Passage mode stays available on this version through the button on the rim lock.
Which suits you is set out in our TTLock vs Tuya comparison and which smart lock platform is right for you. As a rule of thumb, short-stay hosts and anyone who wants to open the door for a visitor from work choose TTLock with a gateway; a household that just wants app control and alerts without buying a gateway can choose Forge Smart.

Auto-Lock and Passage Mode
Alignment sensors on the rim lock and the latch receiver tell the lock when the door or gate has closed against the frame or post, and the motorised latch then engages on its own - there is nothing to turn or press on the way out. From the inside, the automatic unlock button or the manual turn knob opens it (manual page 13).
Hold the passage mode button on the rim lock for 3 seconds and open the door within 5 seconds; it then stays unlocked for free entry. Hold the button for 3 seconds again, or enter any valid passcode, to return to automatic locking. If the door is not opened within the 5 seconds, it re-locks (manual page 14; what passage mode does).
Key Features
- Outside keypad with fingerprint reader, touch keypad, card reader, key cylinder and USB-C emergency port; inside, a motorised rim lock with a manual turn knob, an automatic unlock button, a passage mode button and the battery cover.
- Fingerprint, PIN code and RFID card entry, plus the app and a mechanical key - capacities differ by version (see the table above); compare the methods in Chapter 03.
- Two app versions: TTLock over Bluetooth with the optional G5 gateway for remote access (FERMOTTA), or Forge Smart (Tuya) with Wi-Fi built in (FERMOTYA).
- Automatic locking: sensors on the rim lock and the latch receiver engage the motorised latch whenever the door or gate closes.
- IP66 on the outside keypad and on the inside rim-lock body - protected against dust and strong water jets.
- Surface-mounted rim lock - no mortice pocket, so fitting needs less cutting than a mortice lock; suits doors and gates 35-70 mm thick.
- Aluminium-alloy housings; keypad 166.8 x 58.7 x 22 mm, rim lock 95.4 mm high and 50.5 mm deep, latch receiver 93 x 34 x 37 mm.
- 4 x AA alkaline batteries rated by FORGE at about 9 months, a voice low-battery alert, a 5 V USB-C emergency port and a mechanical key - what happens when the battery dies.
- TTLock version: permanent, time-limited, one-time and recurring passcodes, fingerprints and cards, eKeys and a Forced Fingerprint duress alarm; Forge Smart version: permanent and time-limited codes, entry notifications and Tuya automations.
- Up to 9 administrators (TTLock) or users (Forge Smart) can manage the lock.
- After five wrong attempts in a row the keypad locks for 5 minutes - the app can still unlock.
- Handed for right- or left-hand doors and gates opening inward or outward; one of our locks for gates exposed to rain and app-enabled smart locks.

The TTLock G5 gateway and the TTLock remote (TTLock version only) and extra MIFARE 1K cards are sold separately.
Suitable Uses
- Outdoor doors and pedestrian gates that take the weather - FORGE designs the RD1T for fully exposed sites (door type compatibility matrix).
- Retrofits where cutting a mortice pocket is not practical - the rim lock mounts on the surface.
- Gates and doors that should always lock behind you - the latch engages as soon as the gate closes.
- Doors and gates 35-70 mm thick, opening inward or outward, hinged on either side.
- Rentals and shared entries on the TTLock version with a G5 gateway - codes that expire on their own and remote unlock (short-stay platforms in our platform guide).
- Households that want app control and alerts over Wi-Fi without a gateway, on the Forge Smart version.
- Gates you can reach over - smart access is outside only. FORGE suggests its RD6, which has fingerprint and card access on both sides (the single-sided problem).
- Uneven mounting faces - FORGE says neither unit may sit across raised edges, gaps, framing, decorative sections, welds or uneven surfaces, or the weather seal fails. Fit a lock box with a flat face instead.
- Doors or gates thinner than 35 mm or thicker than 70 mm.
- Pool barrier gates - FORGE does not state that this lock meets pool-barrier requirements (pool gates explained).
- Fire-rated doors - FORGE does not quote a fire rating for the RD1T; sites that see flooding, immersion or high-pressure cleaning.

Door and Gate Fit, Rim Lock
The RD1T has no mortice and no backset to choose: the keypad fixes to the outside face, the rim lock to the inside face, and the latch receiver to the frame or post. What matters is a flat face big enough for both units - FORGE's drawing below shows the 160 x 186 mm minimum for a lock box - and a door or gate 35-70 mm thick (manual page 5; preparing the door).
- A continuous flat surface - the whole rear face of the keypad and of the rim lock must sit flush on the door or gate. With a lock box, its face must be at least 160 mm wide and 186 mm high.
- Door or gate thickness - 35-70 mm.
- Drilling - FORGE's installation template puts a 35 mm main hole 60 mm in from the edge, with an 8 mm hole above and a 20 mm cable hole below, and four 3 mm fixings on a 95 x 63 mm rectangle. On a metal gate the fixings can be self-tapping screws or welded studs.
- The frame or post - the latch receiver (93 x 34 x 37 mm) fixes to it, lined up with the latch so the auto-lock sensors meet.
- Opening direction - right or left hand, inward or outward, viewed from outside with the hinges in view.
- FORGE's checklist - confirm the frame construction, strike position, opening direction, mounting space and thickness before ordering. Send us photos of the door or gate and its frame and we will check it with you.

FORGE Outdoor Smart Locks
This product is in bold. Capacities differ across the range: the H4 stores up to 100 fingerprints, 150 passcodes and 200 cards; the H60 TTLock version 100, 250 and 1,000 and its Forge Smart version 50, 100 and 100; the RD1T 100 fingerprints, 250 passcodes and 1,000 cards, and the RD1 100 fingerprints plus 300 passcodes and cards combined. The H4 and the H1, H1S, H10D and H10S gate locks are sold with a choice of mortice backsets at checkout; the H60 has a fixed 60 mm backset and the RD1T mounts on the surface with no mortice.
Accessories and Spares
FORGE also lists its DB2 video doorbell, which has a gateway built in, for remote control of the TTLock version - ask us if you want one. Other gateways are in the modules and Wi-Fi gateways category, and more cards and fobs in the RFID credentials range.
Battery and Emergency Power
The RD1T runs on 4 x AA alkaline batteries in the rim lock - FORGE rates them at about 9 months, depending on use and conditions, and the manual gives 6-9 months. Use alkaline cells only; the manual rules out rechargeable NiMH and lithium-ion (manual page 11). A voice alert warns you with roughly 50 to 100 unlocks left - replace the batteries then. If they do go flat, connect 5 V power to the USB-C port next to the keyhole with a USB-A to USB-C cable and unlock normally (manual page 23), or use the mechanical key. More on what really affects battery life and power and battery FAQs.

Weather Rating - IP66 Keypad and Rim Lock
FORGE rates the outside keypad and the inside rim-lock body IP66 - protected against dust and strong water jets - and designs the RD1T for fully exposed outdoor doors and gates. It is not intended for flooding, immersion or high-pressure cleaning. The rating depends on the seal: both units must sit flush on a continuous flat surface, never across raised edges, gaps, framing, welds or uneven sections. On the coast, read coastal environments and what corrosion grades mean.

Dimensions
Check the flat mounting area and the door thickness (35-70 mm) before ordering.

Platform and Data
Platform. The RD1T is sold on two platforms: the TTLock version (FERMOTTA) talks Bluetooth to your phone and uses the TTLock G5 gateway for remote access; the Forge Smart version (FERMOTYA) has Wi-Fi built in and runs on FORGE's Forge Smart app on the Tuya platform, with no gateway.
Where your data goes. TTLock is run by Sciener, a Chinese company; where its out-of-China servers are hosted, and which region Australian accounts use, is not published - in short, a Chinese company's servers, location unpublished. Tuya is a Chinese company headquartered in Hangzhou with regional data centres; by Tuya's own published country table, Australian accounts are provisioned to its Central Europe data centre, and there is no Australian data centre. The region the Forge Smart app uses for Australian accounts is being confirmed. For the platform-by-platform picture see where each smart lock platform hosts its data, and for TTLock's security record Chapter 14 - TTLock security.
Installation
The RD1T bolts through the door: the keypad on the outside, a base plate and the rim lock on the inside, joined by the cylinder tailpiece and a data cable, with the latch receiver on the frame or post. Drill from FORGE's installation template; the installation section of the manual runs through each step with drawings.
- Work out the handing first - right or left, inward or outward, viewed from outside with the hinges in view. It sets which way the keypad and the rim lock are fitted (manual page 6 and manual page 7).
- Fit the internal base plate on its rubber pad, oriented for the handing and aligned with the door edge (manual page 8).
- Cut the keypad connection screws to the door thickness plus 7 mm, and the cylinder screws and tailpiece to the door thickness plus 10 mm (manual page 9).
- Connect the data cable, seat the rim lock on the base plate, then fit the latch receiver lined up with the latch and fine-tune it with its adjustment screw (manual page 11; misalignment causes).
- Fit four AA alkaline batteries. Then check that the key locks and unlocks, 123456# unlocks, the turn knob works, the tailpiece is the right length and the latch closes cleanly into the receiver - and keep the keys outside the premises while you test (manual page 12).
- Not sure about doing it yourself? See when to DIY and when to call an installer - Terry's offers installation across the Gold Coast.
Which way a door is handed is explained in how to tell which way your door or gate opens.
Frequently Asked Questions
Choose TTLock (FERMOTTA) if you want to unlock on demand from anywhere, schedule passage mode or run the lock with booking software - you will need the G5 gateway - or need 250 codes and 1,000 cards. Choose Forge Smart (FERMOTYA) if you want app control over Wi-Fi without buying a gateway and are happy with request-based remote unlock and 300 places shared between codes and cards. Both store 100 fingerprints.
Check three things: a door or gate 35-70 mm thick, a continuous flat face for both units (a lock box at least 160 x 186 mm if the frame is uneven), and room on the frame or post for the 93 x 34 x 37 mm latch receiver. Send us photos if you are unsure.
Yes. When the door or gate closes and the sensors on the rim lock and latch receiver line up, the motorised latch engages. Keep a code, fingerprint, card or key with you when you step out, or use passage mode to hold it open.
Four AA alkaline batteries, which FORGE rates at about 9 months. Do not use rechargeable cells. If they go flat, power the lock through the USB-C port beside the keyhole, or use the mechanical key.
Not on the RD1T - the inside is the rim lock with a knob and an unlock button. FORGE's RD6 rim lock has fingerprint and card access on both sides.
Additional Information
- Register an administrator straight away. Until the first administrator is added in the app, the default code is 123456 and the lock is in its factory state. A factory reset puts it back into that state.
- It locks behind you. Carry a credential every time you step out, and use passage mode when a door has to stay open.
- Mount on a flat face. Both units must sit flush on a continuous flat surface for the IP66 seal - fit a lock box over framing, welds or decorative panels.
- Alkaline batteries only. The manual rules out rechargeable NiMH and lithium-ion cells.
- The two versions are not interchangeable. The TTLock and Forge Smart versions use different apps and radios and store credentials differently; choose the one you want when you order.
- Keep the mechanical keys away from the door - in the house or the car - so they are there if the batteries fail (key storage ideas).
Warranty
2-year FORGE warranty from the date of delivery - covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Excludes improper installation or maintenance, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear (including fading or dulling of finishes) and water damage beyond the product's rated IP protection. Proof of purchase required for all claims. Returns & Warranty | FORGE warranty terms

FORGE RD1T Outdoor Smart Rim Lock - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide
Everything below is here to help you choose, fit, set up and live with the FORGE RD1T. For general smart lock questions see our Smart Lock FAQ (Chapter 13), and for measuring and fitting the Buyer's Guide.
Choosing a FORGE Outdoor Lock
The RD1T is the surface-mounted rim lock: IP66 on the keypad and the rim lock, automatic locking, doors 35-70 mm, 4 x AA batteries and no mortice to cut. The H4 is a stainless lever lock with a choice of mortice backsets and IP65 on the outside handle; the H60 is a glass-keypad handle set with IP65 on both panels and a fixed 60 mm backset. The H60 and RD1T both come in TTLock and Forge Smart (Tuya) versions.
Its weather rating is: FORGE rates both units IP66. Smart access is on the outside only - FORGE states the RD1T does not give fingerprint, PIN or card access from both sides. For that, FORGE suggests its RD6.
TTLock or Forge Smart (Tuya)
The app platform, the radio and the credential store. FERMOTTA runs on TTLock and talks Bluetooth 5.0 to your phone, with the optional G5 gateway for remote access, and stores 100 fingerprints, 250 codes and 1,000 cards. FERMOTYA has 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi built in and runs on FORGE's Forge Smart app on the Tuya platform with no gateway, and stores 100 fingerprints plus 300 codes and cards combined.
Yes, over its built-in Wi-Fi. Per FORGE's published comparison, remote unlock on Forge Smart locks is request-based - someone at the lock asks to come in and you approve it in the app - rather than unlocking on demand from anywhere. Remote passcodes, entry records and Tuya automations work from anywhere.
The TTLock version with a G5 gateway: it gives on-demand remote unlock, scheduled passage mode, property-management integration and the larger credential store. See short-stay platform choice in Chapter 07.
A 2.4 GHz network - FORGE states Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz). If your router combines 2.4 and 5 GHz under one name, you may need to separate them while pairing.
Door and Gate Fit
A lock box gives the keypad and rim lock a flat face where the gate or door has framing, rails or decorative sections. FORGE's minimum is 160 mm wide by 186 mm high, continuous and flat. If your door already has a flat face at least that size where the lock goes, you do not need one.
35-70 mm. FORGE's TTLock page says up to 70 mm and the manual gives 35-70 mm.
Yes. FORGE's template says the four small fixing holes need no drilling on a metal door - the fixings can be welded or self-tapping screws - while the 35, 8 and 20 mm holes go right through.
No. It is a rim lock, so there is no mortice. The template puts the 35 mm main hole 60 mm in from the door edge.
Auto-Lock and Passage Mode
Alignment sensors on the rim lock and the latch receiver detect when the door or gate is closed against the frame, and the motorised latch engages (manual page 13).
Hold the passage mode button on the rim lock for 3 seconds and open the door within 5 seconds. Hold it for 3 seconds again, or enter any passcode, to go back to automatic locking (manual page 14).
Press the automatic unlock button on the rim lock or turn the manual knob - no credential is needed from the inside.
Weather
Dust and strong water jets, which is why FORGE designs the RD1T for fully exposed doors and gates. It does not cover flooding, immersion or high-pressure cleaning (IP ratings explained).
The IP66 seal relies on the whole rear face of each unit sitting flush. FORGE warns against fitting across raised edges, gaps, framing, decorative sections, welds or uneven surfaces.
Credentials and Access
Press the finger firmly on the sensor several times when prompted, moving it slightly each time so the lock captures different areas. Avoid wet fingers. Older people can have flatter fingerprints - register the same finger more than once. Children's fingerprints change as they grow, so update them every few months or give them a passcode.
A duress fingerprint. You register it like any other, but when it is used the administrator receives an alarm notification. It is meant for an emergency where someone is forcing you to open the door, not for daily use.
Four: time-limited, one-time (it must be used within 6 hours of being created), permanent and recurring. Time-limited, permanent and recurring codes must be used once within 24 hours of their start time or the lock suspends them. Codes are generated by the app and can be customised afterwards, 4 to 9 digits (manual page 17; Chapter 14 - passcode types). These are the TTLock version's options.
MIFARE M1 cards - up to 1,000 on the TTLock version, and within the 300 places shared with codes on the Forge Smart version. Two come in the box, and extra FORGE MIFARE 1K cards are sold separately.
An eKey gives another TTLock account the right to unlock - time-limited, one-time, permanent or recurring - with options for remote unlock, an unlock link that works without the app, or near-administrator rights (TTLock eKeys). These are the TTLock version's options.
After five wrong attempts in a row the keypad locks for 5 minutes - the app can still unlock the door in that time. The keypad goes back to sleep after 20 seconds without use (manual page 23).
Remote Access and the G5 Gateway
Only for remote use. Fingerprint, PIN and card entry work with no phone at all, and the app works over Bluetooth within about 5-10 metres. Add the FORGE TTLock G5 gateway to unlock on demand, change codes or check records from away from home - what a gateway actually does and the G5 explained.
Plug it in indoors within Bluetooth range of the lock, on a 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network - the closer the better, with as few walls as possible in between. If the lock keeps dropping off, see the real fixes for Wi-Fi dropouts and gateway placement.
Remote Unlock must be switched on for the lock in the app, and Power Saving Mode turned off (manual page 21). Check that the gateway shows the lock in range.
Yes - FORGE offers the FORGE TTLock Bluetooth remote as an add-on for the RD1T. It unlocks at close range without the app or a code.
Power and Batteries
FORGE rates the 4 x AA alkaline batteries at about 9 months, depending on use; the manual gives 6-9 months.
Connect 5 V power to the USB-C port next to the keyhole with a USB-A to USB-C cable and unlock normally (manual page 23). The mechanical key is the other backup.
Installation and Troubleshooting
The latch and the latch receiver must line up so the alignment sensors meet - adjust the receiver with its adjustment screw. Check too that passage mode is not switched on (manual page 11).
Remove the internal base pad and the under-cover, hold the reset button until the lock prompts, then enter 000# (manual page 22).
App and Setup
Download TTLock, register with Australia as your location, allow the permissions and turn Bluetooth on. Swipe the keypad to wake the lock, then add it in the app with your phone close by (manual page 15; pairing guide).
