FORGE H1 Double-Sided Gate Smart Lock - IP65, TTLock or Forge Smart
At A Glance
(Wi-Fi Version)
(G5 or Wi-Fi)
The FORGE H1 Double-Sided Outdoor Gate Smart Lock is a keyless handle-set lock for gates and outdoor doors, with a fingerprint reader, PIN keypad and card reader on both sides. It comes in two versions at the same price: FEDBHDH1T on the TTLock app and FEDBHDH1A on Forge Smart (Tuya) with Wi-Fi built in. Both handles stay locked until someone uses a credential, so nobody can reach over the gate and let themselves in - why double-sided matters on a gate.
The two panels are aluminium alloy, 330 mm tall and 37 mm wide, over a 304 stainless steel mortice with a latch above a deadbolt. FORGE makes the mortice in eight backsets from 25 to 60 mm - you choose yours at checkout - so it can suit narrow gate frames as well as standard doors 40-100 mm thick. Power comes from a 2,000 mAh rechargeable lithium battery that FORGE rates at up to about 12 months, with a USB-C emergency port and a mechanical key under the outside handle.
Both panels are rated IP65. FORGE recommends some shelter for the lock, a weather cover on exposed gates, and an IP66 or IP68 model where the gate is fully exposed - the H10D and H1S are IP66, the H100 IP68. It is made in China for FORGE, an Australian brand based in Ringwood, Victoria, and carries FORGE's 2-year warranty.
Usually ships in 24 hours.

App Platform - TTLock or Forge Smart (Tuya)
The H1 is the same lock in two versions, and the only difference is the app platform and how it reaches the internet. Choose the version when you order - they use different radios and apps. The FORGE manual for the H1 is written for the TTLock version; the Forge Smart version is set up in FORGE's own app.
Set it up in the free TTLock app for iOS and Android
Wi-Fi is built into the lock, so it joins your 2.4 GHz network directly with no gateway, and it is managed in FORGE's Forge Smart app on the Tuya platform - see the Forge Smart (Tuya) platform in Chapter 15. FORGE gives each keypad its own passage-mode shortcut. Per FORGE's published comparison, remote unlock on Forge Smart locks is request-based: someone at the lock asks to come in and you approve it in the app - there is no unlocking on demand from off-site, no scheduled passage mode in the app, no Alexa or Google, no API and no hand-held remote. Remote passcodes, entry records and Tuya automations work from anywhere.
Which suits you is set out in our TTLock vs Tuya comparison and which smart lock platform is right for you. As a rule of thumb, short-stay hosts and anyone who wants to open the gate for a visitor from work choose TTLock with a gateway; a household that just wants app control and alerts without buying a gateway can choose Forge Smart.
Key Features
- Double-sided: fingerprint, PIN and card on both handles, and both handles stay locked until a credential is used - nobody can reach over the gate and open it from inside (the benefits on gates).
- Fingerprint (up to 100), PIN code (up to 250) and RFID card (up to 1,000 M1 cards) - compare them in Chapter 03.
- Two app versions at the same price: TTLock over Bluetooth with the optional G5 gateway for remote access (FEDBHDH1T), or Forge Smart (Tuya) with Wi-Fi built in (FEDBHDH1A).
- 304 stainless steel mortice with a latch on top and a deadbolt below; lift the handle to throw the deadbolt. FORGE makes it in eight backsets from 25 to 60 mm - choose yours at checkout.
- Aluminium-alloy panels 330 mm tall and 37 mm wide - narrow enough for a 50 x 50 mm RHS gate frame with the 28 mm backset.
- Rechargeable lithium battery (2,000 mAh, up to about 12 months per FORGE), a 5 V 1 A USB-C emergency port and a mechanical key under the outside handle - what happens when the battery dies.
- Forced Fingerprint - a duress fingerprint that opens the lock and sends the administrator an alarm notification. It is for emergencies, not daily use.
- Passcodes, fingerprints and cards can be permanent, time-limited or recurring; passcodes can also be one-time (TTLock version).
- Passage Mode - scheduled in the TTLock app, or set from each keypad on the Forge Smart version (what passage mode does).
- Reversible handing - the handles swap direction for left- or right-hand gates, and the latch turns around for gates that open inward or outward.
- After five wrong attempts in a row the lock ignores all input for 90 seconds, and it goes back to sleep after 20 seconds without use.
- Built for gates exposed to rain: rated IP65 on both panels; one of our app-enabled smart locks.

Suitable Uses
- Front, side and courtyard gates on homes and townhouses - see where gates sit in the door type compatibility matrix.
- Gates and outdoor doors 40-100 mm thick, with a gate frame wide enough for the mortice backset you choose.
- Gates you can reach over or through - a credential is needed on both sides, so a visitor can't let themselves in from inside.
- Short-stay rentals and shared entries - a code per guest that expires on its own, managed remotely on the TTLock version once a G5 gateway is added - see gate locks in our platform guide.
- Staff and service entrances that need recurring codes, cards and entry records.
- Gates fully exposed to driving rain without a cover - FORGE recommends an IP66 or IP68 model there, such as the H10D or H100.
- Exit paths where people must get out without a credential - both handles are locked (double-sided locks and exit paths). Consider the single-sided H10S.
- Pool barrier gates - FORGE does not state that this lock meets pool-barrier requirements, which call for a compliant self-closing, self-latching gate (pool gates explained).
- Gates and doors thinner than 40 mm or thicker than 100 mm, or gate frames too narrow for the backset you need.
- Fire-rated doors - FORGE does not quote a fire rating for this lock.

Gate Fit, Mortice and Backset
Choose your mortice backset at checkout. FORGE makes the H1's mortice in eight backsets - 25, 28, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 60 mm - measured from the edge of the gate to the centre of the handle. The backset you need depends on the width of the gate frame where the lock goes, and FORGE gives the minimum frame width for each in the table below. Measure the face of the frame (for example the 50 mm face of a 50 x 50 mm RHS), not the gate - how to measure backset and what to do about a narrow gate post.
FORGE's H1 installation measurement guide shows the lock with the 28 mm backset on a 50 x 50 mm RHS frame: the 40 mm-wide panel sits on the 50 mm face, the surface-mounted faceplate is 2 mm and the latch plate 1.2 mm thick, the latch and deadbolt both project 12 mm, and any gate stopper can overhang the frame by no more than 6 mm (why the gate stop matters).
Case depths and the 240 x 22 mm faceplate are from FORGE's swing-door mortice size guide below; the minimum gate frame widths are FORGE's figures for the H1.
- Gate frame width - the outside width of the frame section at the lock position, such as the face of the RHS. Not the overall width of the gate.
- Gate frame thickness - the outside depth of the section at the lock position, not the steel wall thickness. The H1 suits 40-100 mm.
- Closed gap at the latch - measure between the gate and the post with the gate shut. FORGE recommends 10 mm or less; the latch projects 12 mm.
- Faceplate mounting - the mortice faceplate can sit flush in the edge of the gate or be surface-mounted. FORGE allows 2 mm for a surface-mounted faceplate and 1.2 mm for the latch plate on the post; both close the gap the latch has to cross.
- Wider gap? Surface-mount the mortice faceplate and latch plate, or pack spacers under the latch plate - FORGE's drawing in the Dimensions tab shows both.
- FORGE's checklist - confirm the lock-stile width, mortice depth, gate-to-post gap and installation clearances before ordering. Send us your measurements or a photo of the gate frame and we will check the backset with you.

FORGE Outdoor Gate Smart Locks
This product is in bold. Capacities differ across the range: the H1, H10D and H10S store up to 100 fingerprints, 250 passcodes and 1,000 cards (the H1 figures are from its TTLock-version manual); the H1S stores 200, 150 and 200. The H1, H1S, H10D and H10S each come with a choice of mortice backsets, chosen at checkout.
Accessories and Spares
Other gateways and bridges are in the modules and Wi-Fi gateways category, and more cards and fobs in the RFID credentials range.
Battery and Emergency Power
The H1 runs on a 2,000 mAh rechargeable lithium battery behind the cover on the inside handle. FORGE rates it at up to about 12 months, depending on use and, on the Forge Smart version, Wi-Fi activity; the manual quotes 3,000 or more unlocks per charge. Charge it fully before fitting. When it runs low the lock says "low battery" as you unlock, with roughly 50 to 100 unlocks left - recharge it then. If the battery goes flat, open the gate with the mechanical key or power the lock through the USB-C port next to the keyhole under the outside handle. Use a USB-A to USB-C cable from a power bank - a USB-C to USB-C cable can make the power bank treat the lock as a fast-charge device and not supply power (manual page 20). More on what really affects battery life and power and battery FAQs.

Weather Rating - IP65 Both Sides
FORGE rates both the outside and inside panels IP65, which covers general rain, sun and dust. It does not cover driving rain, hail, salt spray, flooding or immersion, and FORGE strongly recommends some weather shelter. On a gate that takes the weather head-on, fit the FORGE weather cover over each handle, or choose an IP66 or IP68 model - FORGE names its IP68 H100 for harsh sites (non-warranty disclaimer). Water damage beyond IP65 is not covered by the warranty. On the coast, read coastal environments and what corrosion grades mean.

Platform and Data
Platform. The H1 is sold on two platforms: the TTLock version (FEDBHDH1T) talks Bluetooth to your phone and uses the TTLock G5 gateway for remote access; the Forge Smart version (FEDBHDH1A) has Wi-Fi built in and runs on FORGE's Forge Smart app on the Tuya platform, with no gateway.
Where your data goes. TTLock is run by Sciener, a Chinese company; where its out-of-China servers are hosted, and which region Australian accounts use, is not published - in short, a Chinese company's servers, location unpublished. Tuya is a Chinese company headquartered in Hangzhou with regional data centres; by Tuya's own published country table, Australian accounts are provisioned to its Central Europe data centre, and there is no Australian data centre. The region the Forge Smart app uses for Australian accounts is being confirmed. For the platform-by-platform picture see where each smart lock platform hosts its data, and for TTLock's security record Chapter 14 - TTLock security.
Installation
The H1 fits a mortice into the edge of the gate and clamps the two handles together through it, with a data cable running between them. FORGE's template is a guide to adjust to the backset you order, and the installation section of the manual runs through each step with drawings.
- Fit the mortice with the latch facing the closing direction - latch on top, deadbolt below. To reverse the latch, lift the flap, push the latch in and turn it 180 degrees (manual page 5).
- To change handing, undo the screw under the spindle hub with the Allen key, swing the handle 180 degrees, then turn the hub so its orientation mark points the same way as the handle, towards the hinge - on both handles. If the mark is wrong the lock will not lock (manual page 6; FORGE's FAQ and key notes).
- Cut the spindle so it stands 5 mm proud of the inside face of the gate; a spindle that is too long rubs on the clutch and stops the lock locking (manual page 7; the spindle mistake in Chapter 12).
- Screw the waterproof cap onto the data-cable joint and tuck the spare cable into the gate frame before tightening the inside handle.
- Charge the battery fully before fitting it; push the rubber plug into the top screw hole when you are done.
- Afterwards check that both handles stay locked when pressed, lifting a handle throws the deadbolt, 123456# plus the handle unlocks, and the key turns the spindle (manual page 11; misalignment causes).
- Not sure about doing it yourself? See when to DIY and when to call an installer - Terry's offers installation across the Gold Coast.
Which way a gate is handed is explained in how to tell which way your door or gate opens.
Frequently Asked Questions
Choose TTLock (FEDBHDH1T) if you want to unlock the gate on demand from anywhere, schedule passage mode, use Alexa or Google, or run it with booking software - you will need the G5 gateway. Choose Forge Smart (FEDBHDH1A) if you want app control over Wi-Fi without buying a gateway and are happy with request-based remote unlock. The lock itself is the same.
It depends on the width of the gate frame at the lock, and you choose the backset at checkout. FORGE's minimums: 44 mm with a 25 mm backset, 47 mm with 28 mm, 49 mm with 30 mm, 54 mm with 35 mm, 59 mm with 40 mm, 64 mm with 45 mm, 69 mm with 50 mm and 79 mm with 60 mm. On a 50 x 50 mm RHS frame FORGE draws the H1 with the 28 mm backset. Measure the face of the frame, not the whole gate, and keep the closed gap at the latch to 10 mm or less.
Yes - it is a double-sided lock, so both handles stay locked and a fingerprint, code, card or the app is needed on either side. That stops someone reaching over the gate and letting themselves in. Passage Mode can leave it unlocked during set periods.
You get a voice warning first, with roughly 50 to 100 unlocks left. If it does go flat, use the mechanical key or connect a power bank to the USB-C port beside the keyhole under the outside handle with a USB-A to USB-C cable, then recharge the battery.
FORGE rates the H1 IP65 on both panels and strongly recommends some shelter; on a fully exposed gate fit the weather cover or choose an IP66 or IP68 model such as the H10D or H100.
Additional Information
- Register an administrator straight away. Until the first administrator is added in the app, the default admin code is 123456 and any fingerprint will open the lock. A factory reset puts it back into that state.
- Choose the right backset at checkout. The mortice backset has to suit the gate frame - measure it as the Gate Fit section shows before you choose; the wrong one will not fit.
- Set the hub mark and cut the spindle. A spindle-hub mark pointing the wrong way, or a spindle left too long, is the usual reason a newly fitted gate lock will not lock.
- Keep the mechanical keys away from the gate - in the house or the car - so they are there if the battery fails (key storage ideas).
- The two versions are not interchangeable. The TTLock and Forge Smart versions use different apps and radios; choose the one you want when you order.
Warranty
2-year FORGE warranty from the date of delivery - covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Excludes improper installation or maintenance, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear (including fading or dulling of finishes) and water damage beyond the product's rated IP protection. Proof of purchase required for all claims. Returns & Warranty | FORGE warranty terms

FORGE H1 Double-Sided Gate Smart Lock - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide
Everything below is here to help you choose, fit, set up and live with the FORGE H1. For general smart lock questions see our Smart Lock FAQ (Chapter 13), and for measuring and fitting the Buyer's Guide.
Choosing a FORGE Gate Lock
The H1 is double-sided, IP65 on both panels, runs on a 2,000 mAh rechargeable battery and comes in TTLock or Forge Smart (Tuya) versions. The H1S is the compact double-sided model, IP66, with a CR123 battery in each handle and a larger fingerprint store (200). The H10D is double-sided and IP66 with glass keypads and a rechargeable battery; the H10S is the same lock with a keypad on the outside only and free exit inside. The H100 is FORGE's IP68 model for the harshest sites, on Forge Smart (Tuya).
If anyone can reach over or through the gate to the inside handle, you need double-sided - otherwise a visitor can simply open it from inside. Single-sided suits gates and doors where the inside handle can't be reached from outside and people must be able to walk out without a code. The single-sided problem on gates explains it.
FORGE strongly recommends some shelter for the IP65 H1 and suggests at least an IP66 model for fully exposed sites. Fit the weather cover over each handle, or choose the IP66 H10D or H1S, or the IP68 H100.
TTLock or Forge Smart (Tuya)
Only the app platform and radio. FEDBHDH1T runs on TTLock and talks Bluetooth to your phone, with the optional G5 gateway for remote access. FEDBHDH1A has 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi built in and runs on FORGE's Forge Smart app on the Tuya platform, with no gateway. Same hardware, same price.
Yes, over its built-in Wi-Fi. Per FORGE's published comparison, remote unlock on Forge Smart locks is request-based - someone at the lock asks to come in and you approve it in the app - rather than unlocking on demand from anywhere. Remote passcodes, entry records and Tuya automations work from anywhere.
The TTLock version with a G5 gateway: it gives on-demand remote unlock, scheduled passage mode and property-management integration. See short-stay platform choice in Chapter 07.
A 2.4 GHz network - FORGE states 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If your router combines 2.4 and 5 GHz under one name, you may need to separate them while pairing.
Gate Fit, Backset and Mortice
FORGE's minimums: 44 mm with a 25 mm backset, 47 mm with 28 mm, 49 mm with 30 mm, 54 mm with 35 mm, 59 mm with 40 mm, 64 mm with 45 mm, 69 mm with 50 mm and 79 mm with 60 mm. Measure the face of the frame where the lock goes, then choose the backset at checkout.
Yes - FORGE's measurement guide draws the H1 on a 50 x 50 mm RHS frame with the 28 mm backset: the 40 mm-wide panel leaves 5 mm each side. A gate stopper can overhang the frame by no more than 6 mm.
FORGE recommends 10 mm or less - the latch and deadbolt project 12 mm. For a wider gap, surface-mount the mortice faceplate and latch plate, or add spacers under the latch plate.
The template is a reference drawn at 35 mm; move the lock centreline to the backset you order, and allow for a surface-mounted faceplate. FORGE's FAQ and key notes explain it.
Credentials and Access
Press the finger firmly on the sensor several times when prompted, moving it slightly each time so the lock captures different areas. Avoid wet fingers. Older people can have flatter fingerprints - register the same finger more than once. Children's fingerprints change as they grow, so update them every few months or give them a passcode.
A duress fingerprint. You register it like any other, but when it is used the administrator receives an alarm notification. It is meant for an emergency where someone is forcing you to open the gate, not for daily use.
Four: time-limited, one-time (it must be used within 6 hours of being created), permanent and recurring. Time-limited, permanent and recurring codes must be used once within 24 hours of their start time or the lock suspends them. Codes are generated by the app and can be customised afterwards (manual page 14; Chapter 14 - passcode types). These are the TTLock version's options.
M1 (MIFARE 1K) cards, up to 1,000. Two come in the box, and extra FORGE MIFARE 1K cards are sold separately.
An eKey gives another TTLock account the right to unlock - time-limited, one-time, permanent or recurring - with options for remote unlock, an unlock link that works without the app, or near-administrator rights (TTLock eKeys).
The outside and inside handles are paired as two separate locks in TTLock - name them so you can tell them apart (FORGE suggests "Front Gate - External" and "Front Gate - Internal").
Remote Access and the G5 Gateway
On the TTLock version, the FORGE TTLock G5 gateway links the lock's Bluetooth to your home Wi-Fi. Per FORGE's published comparison, TTLock with a gateway gives on-demand remote unlock, scheduled passage mode, Alexa and Google support (FORGE does not recommend voice unlock) and property-management integration, plus remote codes, eKeys and records.
Within reliable Bluetooth range of the gate, on a power point with good Wi-Fi coverage - brick, metal and distance shorten the range, and gates are often at the edge of the house's Wi-Fi. See gateway placement; the G5 is dual-band (the G5 in Chapter 08).
That Remote Unlock is switched on and authorised for that user, Power Saving Mode is off, and the gateway is online (manual page 18). If it keeps dropping out, see why smart locks drop off Wi-Fi.
Everything at the gate - fingerprint, code, card, Bluetooth app unlock and the key. Only the remote functions pause (gateways and internet outages).
Setup and Pairing
TTLock version: install the free TTLock app
Out of the box the default admin code is 123456, and until an administrator is registered any fingerprint will open the lock. Register yourself as administrator as soon as the lock is fitted.
Power and Batteries
FORGE rates the 2,000 mAh battery at up to about 12 months, depending on use and, on the Forge Smart version, Wi-Fi activity; the manual quotes 3,000 or more unlocks per charge. Charge it fully before you first fit it.
The lock warns you when you unlock, with roughly 50 to 100 unlocks left - recharge the battery soon.
Use the mechanical key, or power the lock through the USB-C port next to the keyhole under the outside handle with a power bank and a USB-A to USB-C cable. A USB-C to USB-C cable may not work: the power bank can mistake the lock for a fast-charge device.
Installation
Usually one of two things: the spindle-hub orientation mark is pointing the wrong way, or the spindle is too long and rubs on the clutch. The mark must point the same way as the handle on both sides, and the spindle should stand 5 mm proud of the inside face (FORGE FAQ page 4).
Undo the screw under the spindle hub with the supplied Allen key, swing the handle 180 degrees and re-tighten, then turn the hub so its mark points the same way as the handle - on both handles.
The latch always sits on top and the deadbolt below. Lift the flap on the mortice, push the latch in below the faceplate and turn it 180 degrees so it faces the closing direction.
A handy person with the right tools can - the manual covers the template, mortice, handles, spindle and battery step by step. On a narrow steel or aluminium gate frame an installer is usually quicker; Terry's offers installation across the Gold Coast.
Security, Lockout and Reset
After five wrong attempts in a row the lock stops responding for 90 seconds.
Pin the reset key on the inside panel until the lock asks for the initialisation password, enter 000# on the inside keypad, then hold reset again and repeat on the outside keypad (manual page 19). A reset returns the lock to its factory state - default code 123456, any fingerprint opens - so register a new administrator straight away.
Away from the gate - in the house, the car or with a trusted neighbour - so they are there if the battery fails. A key safe works too.
Passage Mode and Everyday Use
TTLock version: in the app go to Settings, Passage Mode, and set a schedule; unlock the gate once by hand during the period and it stays unlocked until the period ends. Forge Smart version: FORGE gives each keypad its own passage-mode shortcut, so the two sides can be set independently.
Yes - the app keeps entry records, the TTLock version holding the last 600 operations; with a gateway (TTLock) you can check them from anywhere.
Weather and Outdoor Use
On any gate where the lock takes rain from above, yes. The FORGE weather cover is galvanised steel, fitted above the handle with silicone, and sold singly - a double-sided gate exposed on both sides needs two.
FORGE's disclaimer names salt spray as beyond what the rating covers, and fading, dulling or minor oxidation of the finish over time as normal ageing rather than a defect. Keep it out of direct salt spray and read coastal environments.
Warranty and Claims
FORGE's 2-year warranty from the date of delivery, covering defects in materials and workmanship. Claims go through us - start with our Returns and Warranty page with your proof of purchase. Water damage beyond the IP65 rating and normal wear, including finish fading, are excluded.
