Carbine CEL2-BT Fire Rated Bluetooth Leverset with RFID and Key Override – Satin Nickel
The Carbine CEL2-BT-SL8SN-FRKIT is the dedicated fire door installation kit for the CEL2-BT Bluetooth leverset. It provides four access methods — touchscreen PIN code, RFID/NFC credential, Bluetooth via the Carbine Connect App, and mechanical key override — and is specifically packaged for certified installation on fire-rated door assemblies. It is certified for use on E-Core (FRL -/120/30) and Firecore (FRL up to -/120/30) fire-rated door systems.
The lock stores up to 200 combined user codes and RFID credentials and supports up to 10 Bluetooth users per lock. The Carbine Connect App communicates via Bluetooth only — no internet, gateway, or hub is required for any access function. Remote access from outside Bluetooth range is not available on this model. For context on when this matters, see: Airbnb smart locks — do you need WiFi? and Buyers Guide Ch08: Gateway Comparison.
If the fire door kit is not required, the standard Bluetooth leverset is the CEL2-BT-SL8SNKIT. A Matte Black fire rated variant (CEL2-BT-SL8MB-FRKIT) is also available.
E-Core: FAS220275 DHAR1.8 item 18 (Jensen Hughes) — FRL -/120/30; valid to 30/11/2027.
Firecore: FRT230184 (Warringtonfire) — FRL up to -/120/30; valid to 20/12/2028.
Fire rating certification documents are available as PDF downloads below. Confirm that all other hardware in the fire door assembly — hinges, closers, seals, and strike — is also fire rated and compatible with the door system. Access Methods
Works on 13.56MHz Mifare NFC (ISO14443 Type A) — RFID cards, FOBs, wristbands, stickers, and most NFC-enabled Android phones. Australian Mifare transit cards (Go card, Opal, Myki, SmartRider, MyWay, metroCard) are compatible. Visa PayWave and Mastercard PayPass are NOT compatible (ISO14443 Type B). If your phone’s NFC chip is incompatible, a Mifare RFID sticker on the back of the phone is the recommended workaround. See: Carbine CEL RFID Application List (PDF) · Buyers Guide Ch03: RFID access
Suitable Uses

Battery, Power & Backup Access
- Powered by 4 × AA alkaline batteries (Duracell Procell recommended). Do not use lithium or rechargeable batteries.
- Battery life approx. 5,000 openings. Low battery warning via LED and audible tone before depletion. See: How long do digital door locks last?
- Mechanical key override provides physical backup entry at all times, including during battery depletion or loss of Bluetooth connectivity — critical on fire doors where loss of access must never prevent egress.
Frequently Asked Questions
The CEL2-BT-SL8SN-FRKIT is the dedicated fire door installation kit. Both models carry the same fire rating certifications, but this kit is specifically packaged for fire door installation. If you are installing on a certified fire-rated door assembly, specify this kit. For non-fire door applications, the standard CEL2-BT-SL8SNKIT is appropriate. See: Buyers Guide Ch05: Fire Door Smart Locks
The CEL2-BT leverset is certified for E-Core (FRL -/120/30, Jensen Hughes report FAS220275 DHAR1.8 item 18, valid to 30/11/2027) and Firecore (FRL up to -/120/30, Warringtonfire report FRT230184, valid to 20/12/2028). Fire rating certificates are available as PDF downloads below. See: Understanding FRL ratings · Fire rating certificates
No. The Carbine Connect App operates via Bluetooth only — you must be within approximately 10 metres of the lock. There is no cloud connection or internet gateway. This is a common consideration for fire door installations where remote access is not required. See: Carbine Connect: No remote access explained · Buyers Guide Ch08: What a gateway does
Most NFC-enabled Android phones with Mifare support work. Visa PayWave and Mastercard PayPass are not compatible. If incompatible, use a Mifare RFID sticker adhered to the back of the phone. See: Carbine CEL RFID Application List (PDF) · Buyers Guide Ch03: RFID access
No. Outside these ranges the lock is not compatible. See: Buyers Guide Ch02: Measuring Your Door · How to measure your backset
Additional Information
The lock certification covers the lockset only. When specifying for a fire-rated door assembly, all other hardware must also be rated and compatible — including hinges, door closer, intumescent seals, and strike. Confirm the complete hardware schedule with your fire door supplier or certifier before ordering. Verify that fire rating certificates are current — expiry dates are listed in the specs table above. See: Fire door types and smart lock certification · Fire rating certificates · Apartment fire doors on the Gold Coast
Fire doors in older Gold Coast apartment buildings (pre-1990) may contain asbestos in the core or surrounding frame. Do not drill or cut without confirming the door material first. See: Asbestos in Gold Coast apartment fire doors
The QR code inside the battery compartment is the only way to pair a new device to the lock. Photograph it immediately after installation and store it safely. For commercial installations, Carbine recommends removing the QR code label from the lock after photographing it to prevent unauthorised re-pairing. See: Carbine Connect: Security
The connecting cable between the exterior and interior modules must be correctly seated in the mounting plate channel. Incorrect routing — the most common installation failure — causes an unresponsive keypad or a battery cover that won’t seat. Check cable routing first if the keypad stops responding after installation. See: 3 common DIY smart lock installation mistakes
Terry’s Locksmiths offers supply and installation on the Gold Coast, including fire door assessments. See: Site survey and installation services. For self-installation: Buyers Guide Ch12: Installation & Troubleshooting
