Frequently Asked Questions
The CDL2 is PIN-only with a membrane keypad. The CEL-3IN1 is a touchscreen lock accepting RFID cards, FOBs, and NFC phones in addition to PIN. The CDL2 uses 4 x AAA batteries; the CEL-3IN1 uses 4 x AA. The CDL2 is simpler and lower cost. See: Carbine CEL & CDL Buyer's Guide - CDL2 vs CEL
Auto-lock is controlled by the interior thumbturn position. Horizontal = auto-lock active. Vertical = passage mode (functions as a passage lever with no auto-lock). This differs from the CEL series which uses a timed auto-lock via programming.
The CDL2 leverset uses 4 x AAA alkaline batteries (not AA - different from the CEL/CEL2 series). Low battery warning via indicator light before full depletion. See: How long do digital door locks last?
Yes. The CDL2 leverset ships Right Swing by default and can be changed to Left Swing in the field without additional parts. See: Understanding door handing in Australia and the Installation Specs tab for the handing change procedure.
This lock requires 35-51mm door thickness and 60-70mm backset. Outside these ranges it is not compatible. See: Buyers Guide Ch02: Backset · How to measure your backset
Additional Information
The CDL2 leverset uses 4 x AAA batteries - not AA. Keep spare AAA batteries on hand. Do not substitute with lithium or rechargeable (NiMH) batteries. See: The realities of electronic door locks - battery life
Clean with mild soap and a soft cloth only. Do not use chemicals containing alcohol, benzene, or acids. Do not use sharp or abrasive objects on the keypad.
The three most common installation problems are: incorrect latch backset setting, spindle misalignment, and a loose or damaged cable connection between the exterior and interior modules. See: 3 common DIY smart lock installation mistakes and how to fix them · Buyers Guide Ch12: Troubleshooting
The CDL2 leverset uses a spring-loaded tubular latch (not a deadbolt). The latch retracts when the lever is pressed and auto-locks when the door closes. If you need secondary deadbolt security, see the CDL2-DB digital deadbolt. Not sure which you need? What is bolt throw and why does it matter?

Carbine CDL2SL digital Level set
I did a fair bit of research trying to find a keypad entrance lock for our back door/laundry entrance. I didn't need to connect using wifi. I just needed something solid and (although undercover) it needed to be weather conscious and exposed to the sea breeze. This lock was perfect!. Highly recommend!
