Make sure the bolt is in the retracted position before installing the exterior assembly, there is no key in the cylinder during installation, and the torque blade is inserted horizontally. After installation, enter the default programming code (123456) to allow the lock to determine bolt direction and complete setup. The reset is done by taking out one battery and holding the SET button. It wipes the stored codes and the bolt direction the lock learned at setup, so the lock has to relearn which way the bolt throws the next time the programming code is entered. Clean the escutcheons with mild soap and water only, and take the lock off the door before painting - the installation sheet is explicit that the door must not be painted with the lock fitted. On a coastal Gold Coast door, wiping the salt off the outside face every few weeks does more for the finish than anything else. Fit and Door Preparation
It fits a door 35-51mm thick with a 60-70mm backset and a 54mm (2-1/8") or 38mm (1-1/2") bore. Outside those ranges it will not fit, and there is no adaptor that changes that. Measure the door before you order - the door template in the CDL2 Deadbolt Installation Guide marks the backset at 60mm and 70mm and the door thickness at 35, 40, 45 and 51mm. A standard 54mm bore with the adapter collar fitted, or a 38mm bore with the collar removed using a flat-head screwdriver. The door edge takes a 25mm hole for the bolt. Being able to take either bore is unusual for a digital deadbolt and is the main reason this lock suits a retrofit into an older door. Usually, yes. The installation sheet gives a 57 x 25mm strike plate and a jamb hole of 30mm / 29mm / 22mm, and supplies a dust box for the bolt. Older strikes rarely match, and a strike that is even slightly out is the most common reason a digital deadbolt strains and eats batteries. See door alignment - the most underestimated factor.
Both are in the box. Take the one that matches the mortice already cut into the door edge: a square faceplate for a square-cornered mortice, a radius faceplate for a rounded one. Swapping the faceplate is a two-screw job and does not affect the bolt or the electronics. The full parts list is in the installation guide.
Codes, Programming and Everyday Use
10 user codes of 4 to 6 digits, plus 5 single-use codes of 4 digits, plus the one programming code. A single-use code deletes itself after one entry, which is what makes it useful for a tradesperson or a delivery. If ten codes is not enough, the CEL2-3IN1 deadbolt holds 100 codes and cards in one shared pool. Background: Ch03: PIN and keypad access.
The lock ships with programming code 123456. Change it before the door goes into service - the installation sheet says so in its safety notes, and a factory default on a front door is not security. The procedure is in the CDL2 Deadbolt User Guide. Note the CEL and CEL2 ranges use an eight-digit default (12345678), so do not follow a CEL sheet on this lock.
Only if you switch auto-lock on. It is off from the factory. Once enabled, the delay is adjustable from 10 to 99 seconds, with 10 seconds as the starting value. Plenty of owners leave it off on a deadbolt so the door is never locked behind them by accident; on a short-stay property, turning it on is usually the right call.
It suspends every user code at once without deleting them, so nobody who has a code can get in while you are away. Turn it off and the same codes work again - there is no re-programming. It is the fastest way to shut down guest access at the end of a season.
Yes. Keypad volume is adjustable from the keypad itself, which matters on a shared entry, a hallway door, or a bedroom-adjacent door where the confirmation beep carries. The steps are in the user guide.
The user guide lists a guiding code alongside the programming and user codes. Carbine's sheet does not spell out the behaviour beyond naming it, so we are not going to guess at it here - if it matters to how you plan to run the lock, call us and we will check it against a unit before you order.
Keys, Keyways and Backup Access
The CDL2 deadbolt uses the LKW5 (Silca LW4) keyway and comes with two keys. It cannot be fitted with a restricted or TES5 keyway - the cylinder simply is not made for it. If key control is the point of the exercise, step up to the CEL or CEL2 range, which use the C4 keyway. See what the mechanical key override is for.
The keypad stops and the key takes over. There is a low battery warning light before that point, so a flat lock is normally a warning that went unnoticed rather than a surprise. Keep a key somewhere you can reach it without getting through this door. See what to do when the battery dies.
Outside the house, not inside it - a key in the hall drawer is no use when the lock you are locked out of is the front door. A key safe on a side wall or a magnetic hider in the carport is the usual answer, and we stock both. See storing the override key and the key storage range.
Power and Batteries
The CDL2 deadbolt takes 4 x AA. The CDL2 leverset takes 4 x AAA. They look like the same lock family and they are, but the battery is not interchangeable, and this is the single most common mix-up on the CDL2 range. The KIT version of this listing includes the four AA cells.
Carbine does not quote a battery life figure for this model, so we will not invent one. What we can say from the workshop is that a well-aligned deadbolt on a normal household door goes a long time on a set of alkalines, and a misaligned one goes through them quickly, because the motor is fighting the strike on every throw. Installation and Setup
If the door already has a 54mm or 38mm bore at the right backset, this is a confident DIY job. If the door needs boring, or it is an apartment or fire door, get a licensed locksmith - see when DIY is appropriate and when it is not and our advice and installation page.
Three things to check, in order. The bolt must be retracted before the exterior assembly goes on; there must be no key in the cylinder during installation; and the torque blade must go in horizontally. Once it is together, enter the programming code (123456 from new) so the lock can work out which way the bolt throws. See the three common DIY mistakes and Ch12: symptom to fix.
Yes - and this catches people out. The reset (take out one battery, hold SET) wipes the codes and the bolt direction the lock learned at setup. The lock relearns it the next time the programming code is entered, so do the reset with the lock on the door rather than on the bench. Source: CDL2 Deadbolt User Guide.
Not one that names the CDL2. The CEL-3in1 troubleshooting guide is the closest Carbine document and its battery, cable, alignment and handing advice reads across, but it was written for the CEL-3in1 range - its default code (12345678) is not this lock's (123456), so do not follow its programming steps. For anything it does not cover, Ch12: troubleshooting or call us.
Suitability
No. The CDL2 deadbolt carries no fire rating, and on a fire-rated apartment door the one-penetration principle means a second deadbolt is not compliant even if the lock itself were rated. Read why deadbolts are not compliant on apartment fire doors and Ch11: AS1905.1 fire door hardware before you drill anything. If you need a certified digital lock for a fire door, the CEL2-3IN1 Fire Rated leverset is the Carbine answer.
It is moisture and salt spray tested, but Carbine doesn't quote salt spray hours for this model, so we are not going to put a number on it. Carbine does have a general explainer on how its locksets are tested to AS 4145.2-2008 - see the Carbine salt spray testing sheet and Ch11: corrosion resistance grades. On a beachfront door, a sheltered position and a regular wipe-down matter more than any lab number: corrosion resistance, honestly compared.
For a single property, yes, with a caveat. The five single-use codes and ten user codes let you hand out and retire access without changing a lock, and nothing here depends on wi-fi. But there is no app and no remote access, so every code change happens at the door. If you manage several properties, or want codes to issue themselves from a booking, you want a connected lock instead. It is a deadbolt, so it has no latch and does not hold the door shut - it only bolts it. It needs a primary latch or lockset doing the closing. That is the normal way a deadbolt is used, and it is worth understanding the difference: Ch01: tubular deadbolt and deadbolt projection explained.
Where the CDL2 Deadbolt Sits in the Carbine Range
Same family, different job. The deadbolt bolts a door that already has a latch; the CDL2 leverset is the handle and the lock in one. The leverset also holds 20 codes to this lock's 10, uses AAA batteries rather than AA, and controls auto-lock from a thumbturn rather than a timer. The CDL2 is the entry point: PIN and key, membrane keypad, 10 codes. The CEL2-3IN1 deadbolt (Satin Nickel / Matte Black) adds RFID and NFC credentials, a touchscreen keypad and a 100-credential pool. If everyone who needs access already carries a card or a phone, the CEL2 earns its price; if a PIN is all you need, the CDL2 does the same job for less. See the range at a glance.
The CEL2-BT deadbolt (Satin Nickel / Matte Black), which adds the Carbine Connect app over Bluetooth and holds 200 PIN codes. One thing to know before you assume it is the better lock: the Bluetooth deadbolt has no RFID, unlike its leverset sibling, and Bluetooth is range-only - there is no gateway and no remote unlock. How to Make a Claim
- Contact Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd (the place of purchase) in writing as soon as the defect becomes apparent - and no later than 14 days after the end of the applicable warranty period.
- Include in your written claim: a description of the defect, the date of supply, your contact details, and satisfactory proof of purchase.
- Do not return the product until a return authorisation number has been issued by Davcor. If return is required, the product must be in its original, complete, and saleable packaging.
- Davcor will test and assess the product. No claim is valid unless Davcor has confirmed a defect is present.
- Once a valid claim is confirmed, Davcor will - at its discretion - repair the defect, replace the product, or supply an equivalent product. If repair or replacement cannot be completed within a reasonable time, you may request a full refund, provided the product has been returned.
Delivery inspection: If you believe a product is defective or incorrectly supplied at the time of delivery, telephone notice must be given within 72 hours of receipt, with written notice (including full particulars) within 14 days of the invoice date.
