Burg-Wachter Key Safe 50 - Combination Key Safe with Detachable Shackle, 8cm Capacity
The Burg-Wachter Key Safe 50 is a battery-free combination key safe with a detachable plastic-coated steel shackle, allowing it to hang from a gate handle, fence rail, door handle, or similar anchor point - or to be wall-mounted conventionally using the included screws. It is the only model in the Burg-Wachter key safe range that offers this dual-mounting flexibility.
Built from die-cast zinc with a 4-digit resettable mechanical combination, the Key Safe 50 provides 10,000 possible access codes and includes a sliding shutter flap, an internal hook, and a magnetic pad. Keys up to 8cm in length can be stored inside. When the shackle is removed, the back plate exposes four corner fixing holes for standard wall mounting using the included hardware.
No power source is required. The mechanical combination operates completely independently of Wi-Fi, batteries, and apps. The Key Safe 50 is finished in Silver and Black - the only model in this range with a two-tone finish; the other four models are finished in Black.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Key Safe 50 ships with the combination set to 0-0-0-0. Change this to a personal code before putting the unit into service.
Yes. Remove the shackle to expose the four corner fixing holes on the back plate. Drill 6mm holes in the wall, insert the included plugs, and fix with the included screws. The unit functions identically whether wall-mounted or shackle-hung.
Slide the shutter flap downward to expose the dials and the release button. Rotate all four dials to your combination, then grasp the sides of the top section and pull the lid toward you. To lock, close the lid and rotate the dials away from your combination.
Yes. Open the safe, slide the reset pin left and down as shown in the instruction diagram, set your new combination, return the pin to its original position, and test the new code before closing. No plastic cap removal is required on the Key Safe 50 - that step applies only to the Key Safe 10 and 20.
There is no override or emergency access method. If the code is lost, the safe cannot be opened. Record the combination and store it in a separate, secure location before the unit is placed into service.
Additional Information
The detachable shackle is designed to loop over or through a gate handle, fence rail, or similar anchor point with a 45mm clearance gap. Ensure the anchor point is secure and cannot be easily lifted off or unthreaded. The shackle is a convenience feature for flexible placement - it is not a high-security anchor. For maximum security, wall-mounting with screws into masonry is the more resistant installation method.
The Key Safe 50 uses the simplified slide-pin reset mechanism: open the safe, slide the reset pin left and down, set the new combination, return the pin, and test. No plastic cap needs to be removed. This differs from the Key Safe 10 and 20 reset process. Always test the new combination before closing the lid with a key inside.
Rotate all four dials weekly to keep them moving freely. Keep the shutter flap closed when not in use. Wipe the body and shackle with a dry cloth periodically. Check the shackle connection point periodically to confirm the unit remains secure. If dials become stiff, apply dry graphite lubricant sparingly to the dial spindles. Do not use oil-based lubricants.
If wall drilling is possible and a larger interior capacity is needed, the Key Safe 30 (9cm) or Key Safe 40 (11cm) provide greater key length accommodation and a wider interior. The Key Safe 50 is the right choice specifically when gate or fence hanging is required, or when a portable installation without drilling is preferred. See our guide to secure key storage for model selection guidance.
For short-stay rental operators needing remote code management, audit trails, or app-based access, consider the Igloohome Keybox 3 (Bluetooth, algoPIN, IP66) or the ABUS Key Garage KG787BTC (Bluetooth, app-managed, wall-mount). Both require battery power. See Chapter 07 - Airbnb and Short-Stay Rentals for a structured comparison of mechanical vs smart key safe approaches.
Burg-Wachter key safes are covered by a 2-year warranty from the date of sale to the end user. The warranty does not extend to damage caused by misuse, vandalism, accidental damage, or improper installation. Contact Terry's Gold Coast Smart Locks to initiate a warranty claim. This warranty operates alongside your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
