Vault Alpha Slimline Smart Lock for Hinged and Sliding Doors with 3D Face Recognition
The Vault Alpha is a slimline push-pull smart lock designed for modern residential and light commercial doors that need keyless entry with several authentication methods, including 3D face recognition.
Its narrow, long-form body integrates the handle and access control into a single unit for both hinged and sliding door applications where a slim-profile lock is required. Confirm your door stile width before purchasing - the slim body is designed for narrower aluminium and timber profiles.
Access is managed through the Vault Smart Locks app over Bluetooth, with optional remote functionality available when the lock is paired with the Vault G5 Gateway. For the full line-up, see the Vault Smart Lock Range guide.
Usually ships in 3 business days.

Access Methods
The Alpha supports six electronic access methods plus a mechanical key. See our side-by-side access method comparison for how each method works.
Facial Recognition Access
The Vault Alpha supports 3D face recognition for touch-free unlocking - useful when hands are full or where fast everyday entry is preferred.
Face recognition works alongside the other entry methods including fingerprint, PIN, RFID card, Bluetooth app control and mechanical key backup.
If this lock is installed in a commercial, strata, or managed-rental context, review the Australian Privacy Act obligations that apply to facial recognition data.
Face registration is not possible at distances greater than 1.2 metres; follow the on-screen prompts during enrolment.

Vault Smart Locks App
The Alpha is set up and managed through the Vault Smart Locks app, available for iOS
and Android
.
Use the app to add and revoke credentials, issue timed and one-time passcodes, send app eKeys, and review the unlock log over Bluetooth. Remote management from outside Bluetooth range requires the Vault G5 Gateway.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The lock operates via Bluetooth as standard - no internet is required for local access using face recognition, fingerprint, PIN, RFID or Bluetooth. Wi-Fi remote access requires the optional Vault G5 Gateway. Our guide to what a gateway does explains the difference.
Yes, when paired with a compatible sliding hook bolt mortice. The standard 6085 mortice is for hinged doors only - sliding applications need the hook bolt mortice, selected at checkout. See mortice and latch types explained.
The Alpha stores up to 100 face profiles, 100 fingerprints, 200 PIN codes, and 200 RFID cards, all managed through the Vault app. For guidance on time-limited guest access and credential types, see our overview of PIN and keypad access.
The lock can be powered temporarily via a 5V USB connection to the emergency power interface, opening the door electronically while it charges. A mechanical key override is also included as a final backup. See our honest guide to smart lock battery life.
The external module carries an IP66 rating against dust and water jets, suitable for most Australian residential entry doors. The internal module houses the battery and electronics and is for interior use.
Additional Information
- Gateway requirement: Remote access, activity monitoring, and voice-assistant integration require the optional Vault G5 Gateway. Without it, the lock operates locally via Bluetooth and onboard credentials.
- Facial recognition - commercial and rental use: Deploying facial recognition in a commercial, strata, or short-term rental setting may trigger obligations under the Australian Privacy Act. Review these before installation.
- Installation considerations: Correct mortice selection is critical, especially for sliding doors. Selecting the wrong mortice is a common error - see our guide to common hardware and backset mistakes.
- Door compatibility: Designed for aluminium and timber doors within standard thickness ranges. Confirm your stile width and door thickness before purchasing.
- Compare the slimline range: The Vault Zenith is the closest push-pull face-recognition sibling; the Vault Eclipse is a slimline lever or knob alternative.
- Brand context: For where the Alpha sits in the Vault range and how Vault compares to other brands, see the Vault brand profile.
- Maintenance: Regular cleaning of the fingerprint sensor and face recognition camera improves reliability and read consistency over time.
