Borg BL1706 Mechanical Digital Cam Lock - Easicode Pro and Key Override

At A Glance

At A Glance
PIN codePIN Code Key overrideKey Override

The Borg BL1706 Mechanical Digital Cam Lock is a mechanical digital lock for cabinets, lockers, cupboards, post boxes, and joinery - combining Easicode Pro on-door code change with a built-in key cylinder override. No batteries or wiring are involved at any point: this is a fully mechanical lock that relies entirely on the pin chamber to control access. Two finishes are available on this listing - Black (BL1706MGPROECPKA) in Borg's MG Pro 2 marine grade external coating, and Satin Chrome (BL1706SCECPKA). Select your finish from the product options.

The keypad operates any-order PIN entry across over 500 code combinations. The Easicode Pro button lets you update the PIN at any time without removing the lock from the door - a 10-second procedure that requires only the included code change key. The integrated key cylinder override (keyed alike, 2 keys supplied) gives a supervisor or administrator access without the PIN, which means code-recovery procedures are never required even if the PIN is forgotten. A preview panel on the inside cam lets you read the current code from inside the locker without dismounting the lock. The lock suits doors and panels 2 to 25mm thick, is non-handed, and comes with two cams to cover a wide range of cabinet configurations. Browse the full Borg, Lockwood and Carbine mechanical digital range or the Borg brand profile for more context.

Estimated Dispatch
Usually ships same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excludes Queensland public holidays).
Easicode Pro icon
Easicode Pro - On-Door Code Change
The PIN can be changed with the cam lock installed - no removal required. Press the code change button with the included ECP key, clear the existing code, enter the new code, and set it. The whole procedure takes around 10 seconds. Compare this with the bench-based tumbler method on standard (non-ECP) cam locks: the Easicode Pro difference is that the code never has to come off the door. For the step-by-step ECP code change procedure, see the illustrated walkthrough in the Changing Codes guide, and download the ECP Code Change Instructions (PDF).
Marine grade icon
Marine Grade Pro 2 Finish - 1,000 Hours Salt Spray Tested
The black finish (BL1706MGPROECPKA) uses Borg's MG Pro 2 marine grade external coating, independently tested to 1,000 hours continuous salt spray. This makes it appropriate for post boxes, delivery cabinets, external storage units, and other outdoor applications exposed to coastal conditions. For context on how this compares against other brands' corrosion ratings, see the corrosion comparison in Lockwood vs Borg vs Carbine. The satin chrome (BL1706SCECPKA) does not carry the same outdoor exposure rating - confirm your installation environment before ordering and check whether MG Pro 2 is needed for your site.
No batteries
Fully Mechanical - No Batteries Required
Entirely mechanical throughout. Mechanical digital locks have no power source, no wiring, no battery to go flat mid-rotation. The only maintenance is re-coding if access changes, or replacing the key cylinder if a key is lost.

Key Features

  • Fully mechanical digital cam lock - no batteries, no power, no wiring. The coding chamber operates entirely mechanically.
  • Easicode Pro on-door code change - update the PIN in approximately 10 seconds without removing the lock from the door. Use the included ECP code change key to initiate the procedure - no tools, no bench, no reinstallation. See how Borg labels its ECP locks and how to test your code before closing the door.
  • Built-in key cylinder override - keyed alike, 2 keys included. Opens the lock without the PIN: ideal for supervisor access, lockouts, and master-keyed facilities.
  • Preview panel on the inside cam - a viewing window on the rear cam lets you read the current code from inside the locker without removing the lock. Useful for code audits across a locker bank.
  • Over 500 any-order code combinations - buttons can be pressed in any order from the set code.
  • Non-handed - suits left or right opening doors without any adjustment.
  • Supplied with two cams: 48mm straight and 47mm with 6mm crank, covering a wide range of cabinet configurations.
  • MG Pro 2 black finish (BL1706MGPROECPKA): 1,000 hours salt spray tested for outdoor and coastal environments.
  • Cycle tested to 50,000 operations - appropriate for regular daily cabinet and locker use.
  • Optional code change cover plate available separately to prevent unauthorised re-coding - see Accessories below.

Access Methods

Method Available Notes
PIN Code Yes Any-order entry across over 500 combinations. Press any set of the coded buttons in any sequence.
Key Override Yes - built in Euro cylinder, keyed alike, 2 keys supplied. Eliminates need for the cover plate code-recovery procedure required on the BL1006SCECP sister lock which has no key override.

What's in the Box

  • 1 x Borg BL1706 mechanical digital cam lock body (keypad + euro cylinder)
  • 2 x cams: 48mm straight cam + 47mm cam with 6mm crank
  • 1 x Easicode Pro code change key
  • 2 x override keys (keyed alike)
  • Mounting hardware: 60mm flat bladed spindle + 10-30mm screws

Suitable Uses

This cam lock is part of the Digital Mechanical Locks range - specifically designed for cabinets and joinery, not for standard hinged access doors. Why choose a mechanical digital lock? Battery-free operation, zero connectivity requirements, and no technology to become obsolete. The BL1706's combination of MG Pro 2 finish for outdoor exposure and key override makes it one of the more versatile cam lock options in the range.

  • Internal and external lockers: gym lockers, school storage, changing room facilities, staff room lockers.
  • Key cabinets, filing cabinets, cupboard doors, and joinery in offices and facilities.
  • Post boxes, delivery cabinets, and external storage units where the MG Pro 2 finish (black) is specified for weather exposure.
  • Anywhere a code-based cam lock with a supervisor key override is needed - the key override eliminates the need for code recovery procedures.
  • Replacement for standard cylinder cam locks in existing fitouts - see why the Terry's range offers better longevity than hardware store equivalents.
  • Compare the full BL1000 cam lock family in the Buyer's Guide Chapter 16 or the Borg brand profile in Chapter 10.
Light to medium use icon
Light to Medium Use
Rated to 50,000 cycles - appropriate for regular daily locker and cabinet use across a standard working life. Not a high-traffic commercial door lock.
Not suitable icon
Not for Standard Commercial Door Traffic
This is a cam lock for cabinets and joinery - not for standard hinged doors handling regular foot traffic. For a heavy-duty mechanical digital lock for high-traffic commercial doors, consider the Lockwood 3572DX, the Borg BL7701, or the Carbine CDL7200LL-HD.

BL1000 Cam Lock Series

Two cam lock variants are available locally. The only mechanical difference is the key override cylinder:

Model Key Override Finish
BL1006SCECP - Cam Lock, ECP, No Key Override No Satin Chrome
BL1706MGPROECPKA / BL1706SCECPKA - Cam Lock, ECP, Key Override (This Product) Yes - euro cylinder, 2 keys Black MG Pro 2 + Satin Chrome

If key override is not required, the BL1006SCECP is the same cam lock body in satin chrome with no cylinder. Both models carry Easicode Pro and share the same dimensions and cam profiles.

Frequently Asked Questions

No batteries
Does this lock require batteries or any power source?
No. It is a fully mechanical cam lock - no batteries, no wiring, no power supply at any stage of the product's life. The only maintenance is re-coding if access patterns change, or replacing the key cylinder if a key is lost. See why to choose a mechanical digital lock for the full case.
Code change ECP
How do I change the PIN code on the BL1706?
With the lock installed and the door open: (1) Enter the existing code. (2) Hold down the code change button using the included ECP key - hold it fully pressed until step 5. (3) Press C to clear. (4) Enter the new code. (5) Release the ECP key. (6) Press C to set. The code is active immediately. Always test the code five times before closing the door. See the full illustrated ECP procedure in the Changing Codes guide, and download the ECP Code Change Instructions (PDF) for the step-by-step sheet.
Key override
What is the key override for and when is it needed?
The euro cylinder key override lets an authorised keyholder open the lock without entering the PIN - the primary use case for key override is supervisor access, lockout recovery, and master-keyed facilities where a manager needs access to any locker without knowing individual codes. Two keys are supplied, keyed alike. If a key is lost, rekey or replace the cylinder. Unlike the BL1006SCECP sister lock which has no key override, this BL1706 product never requires the cover plate code-recovery procedure - the key provides a direct bypass.
Door thickness
What door or panel thickness does this cam lock suit?
Doors and panels from 2mm to 25mm thick. Confirm your door or panel thickness before ordering - a door thicker than 25mm will prevent the cam from engaging the strike correctly. The two supplied cams (48mm straight, 47mm cranked) cover most standard locker and cabinet configurations. Download the vertical or horizontal drilling template to mark holes accurately before cutting.
Accessories
Do I need the code change cover plate?
The cover plate (BLS101MGPRO for black; BLS101SC for satin chrome) physically conceals the Easicode Pro code change button. Without it, anyone inside the locker or cabinet could re-code the lock. Fitting it requires a key to initiate any code change, adding a physical second factor. Recommended in shared or public-access installations such as gym locker banks. Not supplied as standard. See the Borg brand profile for guidance on product selection for different access environments.

Additional Information

Key management
Managing Key Override Access:
Keep physical keys in the hands of a limited number of authorised persons. If a key is lost, replace or rekey the cylinder rather than just re-coding - the code alone does not protect against a person who still holds a working key. The ECP change key is a separate item from the override key and can be stocked separately if needed. Replacement override keys and key blanks are available.
Outdoor and coastal use
MG Pro 2 Finish for Outdoor Applications:
The black finish (BL1706MGPROECPKA) with MG Pro 2 coating is designed for outdoor and coastal-exposed applications - post boxes, delivery cabinets, and external lockers. 1,000 hours salt spray represents the upper tier of Borg's weather ratings. For a full comparison of how this stacks up against other brands' corrosion ratings, see corrosion resistance in Lockwood vs Borg vs Carbine. If your installation is sheltered rather than exposed, the satin chrome (BL1706SCECPKA) may be sufficient - check whether MG Pro is needed for your site.
Preview pane code checking
Using the Preview Pane to Audit Codes:
The inside cam includes a viewing window that lets you read the current code from inside the locker without removing the lock. Rotate the panel to see the code displayed in red. This is useful when a code has been changed and needs verification, or when auditing codes across a locker bank before re-coding.
