Borg BL2701MGPRO Marine Grade Pro Mechanical Digital Lock - Matt Black - Key Override
At A Glance
The Borg BL2701MGPRO is a fully mechanical digital lock from the Borg BL2700 Marine Grade Pro series, built for coastal, marine and external environments where salt air and moisture are an ongoing concern. Internal components are manufactured from 316 grade stainless steel and the lock carries Borg's matt black Marine Pro grade finish - a coating developed for protection beyond the standard satin chrome range.
The lock has been saltwater tested to 1,000 hours and operates on a single PIN code selected from over 8,000 possible combinations, with a Silca YA5 6-pin mechanical key override cylinder included as standard. No batteries or mains power are required at any point. The lock is confirmed suitable for external use on timber and composite doors.
This model does not include EasiCode Pro on-door code changing - code changes use Borg's standard tumbler-based procedure with the keypad removed from the door (see Code Change). If on-door code change matters more than marine-grade protection, the BL2701SCECP (satin chrome, internal use) shares the same key override and holdback but adds EasiCode Pro. See our guide on what MG Pro and ECP actually mean if you are weighing up the two.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excludes weekends and Queensland public holidays).
Every function - keypad entry, code change, key override - is driven by the physical action of the keypad and key. There is nothing to charge, no batteries to replace, and no electronics to fail, even in a marine environment.
The BL2701MGPRO is part of Borg's Marine Grade Pro range. 316 grade stainless steel internal components, a stainless steel latch, and the matt black Marine Pro finish combine to resist salt water and coastal corrosion. Confirmed suitable for external use. See our guide on Borg's Marine Grade Pro range explained.
The Marine Pro range has undergone 1,000 hours of saltwater testing to verify the coding chamber and internal components resist salt water corrosion. Regular fresh-water rinsing after salt exposure will help the finish and mechanism last - see Additional Information for maintenance guidance. See our guide on honest corrosion numbers across Borg, Lockwood and Carbine for how this compares to other brands.
Supplied with a Silca YA5 6-pin key override cylinder and 3 keys, giving a mechanical way in if the code is ever forgotten or the keypad needs service. Note that the marine-grade finish on the keypad and knob does not extend to a replacement cylinder - if your locksmith supplies a substitute, confirm it has adequate corrosion resistance for the installation environment.
The BL2701MGPRO is built for coastal and marine residential and light commercial doors. For high-traffic commercial or heavy-duty applications, consider the Lockwood 3572DX, Borg BL7701 Heavy Duty, or Carbine CDL7100SC-HD. See our guide on heavy duty commercial mechanical digital locks for the full comparison.
Installing on a Narrow Aluminium Gate Frame?
Planning to mount this lock on an external gate with a 50mm x 50mm (or larger) aluminium frame? The standard 60mm latch included in the box will not fit through it.
To get this lock working properly on a gate frame, you will need the correct extended-projection latch - see Accessories and Spares for the confirmed Left Hand and Right Hand options.

Code Change - Tumbler Method
Unlike the EasiCode Pro models in the range, the BL2701MGPRO changes its code with the keypad removed from the door - a bench job, not an on-door one. In short: remove the lock from the door, take out four retaining screws to open the back of the keypad, hold down the clear "C" button, then reposition the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) tumblers with the supplied tweezers to set the new combination - red tumblers represent coded digits, blue represent non-coded digits, and the "C" tumbler must never be removed. Two spare coded and two spare uncoded tumblers are included, letting you extend the code to 6-7 digits or reduce it to 3-4. Full manufacturer instructions are in PDF Downloads. See our guide on changing codes on mechanical digital locks - the bench method for a fuller walkthrough with photos.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The Marine Pro range uses Borg's standard tumbler-based code change procedure - the keypad is removed from the door and the coded/uncoded tumblers are repositioned with tweezers. EasiCode Pro on-door code change is not available on this model. If on-door code change matters more than marine-grade protection, the BL2701SCECP (satin chrome, internal use) includes EasiCode Pro.
Three things: 316 grade stainless steel internal components, a stainless steel anti-thrust latch, and Borg's matt black Marine Pro external finish, developed as additional protective coating. The assembly has been saltwater tested for 1,000 hours. Standard Borg satin chrome models are not rated for external or coastal use. See our guide on honest corrosion numbers across Borg, Lockwood and Carbine for how the brands compare.
It can, but the standard 60mm latch included in the box will not fit through a typical 50mm x 50mm aluminium gate frame. A compatible extended-projection latch is required - see the Left Hand and Right Hand gate latch options before ordering.
No. The BL2701MGPRO is a fully mechanical digital lock. All internal mechanisms are driven by the physical action of the keypad buttons - no electricity, batteries, or wiring are involved at any point, which is one reason it holds up well in a marine environment where electronics would struggle.
The 1,000-hour saltwater test result demonstrates the coding chamber and internal components' resistance at the time of manufacture, not a fixed expiry. The 316 stainless internals will continue to outperform standard components in coastal environments over the long term, but ongoing salt spray exposure can affect the external finish over time - regular fresh-water rinsing after exposure helps extend service life. See Additional Information for maintenance guidance, and Warranty for what Borg and Terry's cover.
Additional Information
In active marine environments - boat sheds, marina access doors, waterfront gates - rinse the lock with fresh water periodically to remove salt deposits from external surfaces and keypad buttons, paying particular attention to the key override cylinder entry point. A small amount of graphite lubricant applied to the cylinder barrel annually helps keep key operation smooth. The coding mechanism itself is saltwater tested and does not need lubrication. Avoid oil-based lubricants on the keypad buttons, as these attract salt and grit.
Unlike the EasiCode Pro models, the BL2701MGPRO requires the lock to come off the door to change the code: remove four retaining screws from the back of the keypad, hold down the clear "C" button, then reposition the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) tumblers with the supplied tweezers - always keep the square cut-outs facing outward and the coloured mark facing up, and the code must always start with the "C" tumbler in place. If regular code changes are expected - for example, at each change of occupancy - consider whether an EasiCode Pro model better suits the installation. See our guide on how long digital door locks last in coastal environments.
The Silca YA5 6-pin cylinder supplied with the BL2701MGPRO is the same profile used across the BL2700 range. Keys can be duplicated at most locksmith workshops. If a master keyed or restricted key profile is required for site integration, confirm YA5-compatible cylinder availability with your locksmith - and confirm any replacement cylinder has adequate corrosion resistance for a marine installation, since the Marine Pro coating on the keypad and knob does not extend to a substitute cylinder.
A corrosion-resistant keypad on a standard latch is a false economy in a marine setting - the latch and strike see just as much salt exposure. See our guide on why the latch matters as much as the lock body for why the BL2701MGPRO's fully stainless anti-thrust latch is part of the corrosion-resistance package, not just the keypad finish.
Borg Locks are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for 12 months from the date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation, and does not cover anything beyond the documented code change procedure. Locks must not be dismantled - dismantling voids the warranty. Warranty claims for products purchased through Terry's are managed by Terry's - contact the team directly to start a claim. This warranty operates alongside, and does not limit, your rights under Australian Consumer Law. [CONFIRM: the manufacturer's own installation documentation for this lock family states a 2-year repair guarantee direct from Borg (UK) - this is separate from, and may be broader than, the 12-month retail warranty Terry's applies in Australia; worth confirming with Jim which period should be quoted to AU customers before this is treated as settled.]

Frequently Asked Questions - BL2701MGPRO
Marine and Coastal Use
Borg confirms the BL2701MGPRO as suitable for external use, backed by 1,000 hours of saltwater testing and 316 stainless internals - a step beyond typical "rain resistant" internal-use hardware. It is still a light-to-medium-duty domestic lock, not a marine-grade commercial product certified to a specific salt-spray standard - see our guide on honest corrosion numbers across brands for how the claims compare.
They share the same key override function and holdback. BL2701MGPRO trades EasiCode Pro's on-door code change for 316 stainless internals, a fully stainless anti-thrust latch, matt black Marine Pro finish, and confirmed external/marine suitability. If your door is internal and you want fast on-door code changes, the BL2701SCECP is the simpler option. See Item Code Family for the full comparison.
Not currently - the Marine Grade Pro coating is only catalogued in Matt Black. If you need a lighter external finish, ask Terry's whether a satin stainless option is available in the wider Borg range before assuming this Matt Black listing is the only external-rated choice.
Code, Keys and Servicing
Not as a discrete keypad-only SKU at this time - see Accessories and Spares for what is currently catalogued (spare tumblers, spindles, gate latches). If your external keypad assembly needs replacing, contact Terry's and we will confirm current availability rather than guess.
The factory-set code length can be shortened to 3-4 digits or extended to 6-7 digits using the two spare coded and two spare uncoded tumblers included in the box - see Code Change for the full procedure. A longer code is more resistant to guessing but slower to enter; most households find the factory length a reasonable balance.
No - Borg's warranty (see Warranty) covers manufacturing defects, not damage from improper installation or anything beyond the documented code-change procedure. The tumbler procedure involves small parts on a flat surface - if you are not confident performing it yourself, ask a locksmith to carry out the change instead.
Yes, but it ships set for a right-hand hung door. To reverse it for a left-hand door, remove the lock and follow the handing-reversal steps in the installation instructions (see PDF Downloads) before fitting - this is a normal, expected step, not a fault.
