Auslock Handy Series H05 — Smart Mortice Lock (Black)
The Auslock H05 is a full mortice smart lock for timber and aluminium entry doors. With a compact 280 × 65 mm profile and a zinc-aluminium body in black, it replaces the lever, cylinder, and mortice body in one install — leaving a clean, low-profile result. Unlock with fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card, Bluetooth app, or a mechanical backup key. Add the optional Auslock G2 or G3 gateway for remote app access, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa.
The H05 suits residential entry doors, apartments, rental properties, and small offices. Its compact panel dimensions make it a natural fit where stile width or a lower visual profile matters. With four AA batteries providing up to 12 months of use, a Type-C emergency power port, and an electronic privacy snib, it covers everyday smart lock scenarios in a smaller footprint than the H06.

- Small offices and shared workspaces with rotating staff access
- Sheltered outdoor doors — covered entries (IP55; avoid direct rain spray)
H05 vs H06 — What's the Difference?
The H05 and H06 share identical electronics, access methods, app platform, mortice body, and gateway compatibility. The sole practical difference is panel size. The H05 has a more compact panel (280 × 65 mm) suited to narrower stiles and doors where a lower visual profile is preferred. The H06 has a larger, more prominent panel (370 × 72 mm) with a broader interior escutcheon. Choose H05 for a compact fit; choose H06 for a more commanding aesthetic.

Dimensions
Mortice Body
The H05 requires a full mortice body to be fitted into the door edge. This involves precise chiselling or router work to create a mortice cavity — a task where alignment is critical. For best results and to avoid door damage, professional locksmith installation is recommended. If you are comfortable with door prep and have the correct tools, the three most common install mistakes are worth reading first. Confirm your existing door hardware format and 60 mm backset prep before ordering.
Battery, Power & Backup
- Batteries: 4 × AA alkaline (6 V). Use alkaline only — lithium or rechargeable cells are not recommended.
- Battery life: approximately 12 months under normal residential use (~10,000 operations).
- Low-battery alert: the lock alerts via keypad and the Auslock App when voltage drops below 4.8 V. Replace batteries promptly when notified.
- Emergency power: if batteries are fully flat, connect a USB power bank to the Type-C port on the front panel to power the lock temporarily. Keep a power bank accessible outside the premises.
- Keep a mechanical key outside the premises as a separate backup — the keyway is located behind the front panel cover.
Remote App Access & Gateway
The H05 connects to the Auslock App via Bluetooth for local control (within ~5 m). For remote access from anywhere, you need an Auslock Gateway (sold separately). The Gateway bridges the lock to your Wi-Fi network and from there to the internet.
Frequently Asked Questions
The lock accepts my code but the door does not open — what do I check?
This is almost always a battery or alignment issue rather than a fault with the electronics. Start by replacing the batteries with a fresh full set of brand-name AA alkaline cells. Then test the lock with the door open for ten cycles — if it works smoothly open but fails when the door is closed, the strike plate needs adjustment. Even 1–2 mm of misalignment can cause the latch or deadbolt to bind and prevent full retraction. Check for door sag and make sure no weather seal is dragging against the panel.
The fingerprint reader is inconsistent — how do I improve recognition?
Unreliable fingerprint reads are usually caused by a dirty sensor, an oily or wet finger, poor enrolment angle, or low batteries. Clean the sensor with a dry microfibre cloth. Delete the fingerprint entry and re-enrol it, presenting the same finger two or three times at slightly different angles during setup. Add a second backup finger. If the behaviour continues, replace the batteries — low battery torque affects reader performance before the low-voltage alert fires.
A guest cannot get in — what is the fastest fix?
Work through this checklist: confirm the PIN code is correct and still active (check it has not expired if it was timed); if the guest is using a card or fob, confirm it was enrolled on that specific lock; if the keypad is dim or slow to respond, replace all four batteries immediately; if the app shows unlocked but the door does not move, ask the guest to apply gentle push or pull pressure on the door while the lock operates — the latch may be catching on the strike. Keep a backup access method — admin app, emergency key — available for urgent situations.
How do I set timed access codes for Airbnb guests?
In the Auslock App, select the lock and go to Passcodes. Create a Timed passcode and set the start time to check-in and the end time to 30–60 minutes after checkout (a buffer prevents lockouts if guests run late). For cleaners or recurring contractors, use a Recurring or Scheduled passcode with a weekly or daily window. Confirm the timezone setting in the app is correct for your property before saving — timezone errors are the most common cause of codes failing at the wrong time. Test the code before the guest arrives.
How do I factory reset the lock?
Keep the door open before resetting. Hold the Reset button under the battery cover for 5 seconds, then enter 000# on the keypad. The lock will return to factory defaults — all users, codes, and settings are removed. You will need to re-add the lock to your Auslock App account as admin and recreate all access credentials. If you are preparing the lock for a new owner or new tenancy, factory reset ensures no prior credentials remain active.
What does the privacy switch (electronic snib) do?
When privacy mode is enabled, the lock restricts all access methods except the admin app and the mechanical key. This is useful when you are home and want to prevent any entry — even valid credentials will not open the door. To enable it, turn on Privacy Lock in the Auslock App settings for that lock. Always test with the door open before relying on it, as behaviour can vary. To release from outside, use the admin app (requires a gateway for remote release) or the mechanical key.
Additional Information
App platform: The H05 runs on the Auslock App — a dedicated platform separate from TTLock or Tuya. The app supports iOS and Android, multiple admin levels, e-key sharing, scheduled access, and full unlock records. Remote access and voice control require an Auslock G2 or G3 gateway. Not sure which platform suits your situation? See Chapter 15 — Choosing the right smart lock app platform.
Managing multiple locks and users: One Auslock account can manage multiple locks. For rental properties and offices, give each lock a clear name in the app (for example, "Front Door" or "Unit 3 Entry"). Create individual named codes for each person — cleaner, guest, staff — rather than sharing a single code. Named codes make the activity log readable and make it easy to remove access when roles change. One fob or card can also be enrolled on multiple locks by adding it to each lock individually in the app.
Tracking access and activity logs: Every unlock event is recorded with the access method and timestamp. For clear audit trails, name each code and e-key in the Auslock App when you create it. To review records, select the lock in the app and open Records or Logs. For offsite monitoring, a gateway must be connected and online — the full log syncs via the cloud when a gateway is in range.
Battery performance and alignment: The main causes of shorter-than-expected battery life are door misalignment (latch or deadbolt rubbing on the strike plate), door not closing cleanly causing repeated auto-lock attempts, and the use of mixed or low-quality batteries. Always replace all four AA batteries at the same time using brand-name alkaline cells. If the lock sounds strained during operation, test with the door open — if smooth open but difficult closed, adjust the strike plate position before the next battery change.
IP55 and outdoor use: IP55 covers dust ingress and directional water spray. The H06 is rated for sheltered outdoor doors — covered entries, porticos, and internal courtyards. Avoid direct rain exposure, heavy splash, or prolonged high humidity. It is not rated for outdoor gate use. For details on what IP ratings mean in practice, see Chapter 11 — IP ratings explained.
Door prep: The H05 requires a 60 mm backset. Confirm your door's existing preparation before ordering — see Chapter 02 — measuring for a mortice lever.
Lifespan: Battery-powered mortice smart locks typically last 5–10 years under residential use when correctly installed and maintained. See how long digital door locks last in Australian conditions.
