McGrath Locks Extended Tail Piece for Grange - Suits Door Thickness 52mm to 75mm

The McGrath Locks Extended Tail Piece is a thick-door extension kit for the McGrath Grange Entrance Pull Handle with Smart Lock and the McGrath Grange Dummy Entrance Pull Handle. It extends the standard spindle reach to accommodate doors between 52mm and 75mm thick — thicker than the standard door thickness the Grange handles as supplied.

The kit includes an extended tail piece and three fixing screws. For doors between 75mm and 100mm thick, see the Extended Tail Piece and Connector Bar (75mm–100mm) kit instead.

Important
Measure your door thickness before ordering
This kit suits doors between 52mm and 75mm thick. If your door is within standard thickness (typically under 52mm), the Grange handle does not require this extension kit. If your door exceeds 75mm, see the 75mm–100mm connector bar kit. Measure the full thickness of the door leaf — including any glazing, aluminium frame section or composite core — before purchasing.

Key Features

  • Thick-door extension kit for the McGrath Grange Entrance Pull Handle (smart lock and dummy variants).
  • Suits doors between 52mm and 75mm thick.
  • Extends the spindle reach to bridge thicker door sections.
  • Includes extended tail piece and three fixing screws.
  • Allows the Grange handle to be correctly fitted to thicker glazed, composite or solid timber door constructions.

Suitable Uses

  • Installing the McGrath Grange smart lock or Grange dummy handle on a door 52mm to 75mm thick.
  • Glazed aluminium entrance doors where the frame section plus glazing panel adds up to a total thickness in the 52mm to 75mm range.
  • Solid timber or composite door constructions within the 52mm to 75mm range.

For guidance on measuring door thickness and what to check before fitting a smart lock to an aluminium-framed door, see Check Screen Door Clearance Before Fitting a Smart Lock and the Installation & Troubleshooting chapter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need this kit?
Only if your door is between 52mm and 75mm thick. The McGrath Grange handle ships with a standard-length spindle that suits most residential door thicknesses. If your door is within that standard range — typically under 52mm — this extension kit is not required. If your door exceeds 75mm, you need the 75mm–100mm extended tail piece and connector bar kit instead.
What is the difference between this kit and the 75mm–100mm kit?
This kit (52mm–75mm) includes only the extended tail piece and three screws — no connector bar. The 75mm–100mm kit includes an additional brass connector bar body to bridge the greater thickness. Choose the kit that matches your measured door thickness.
Does it suit the Grange Dummy handle as well as the smart lock?
Yes. This extension kit suits both the Grange Entrance Pull Handle with Smart Lock and the Grange Dummy Entrance Pull Handle. For a double-door installation on thick doors, you need one kit per leaf.
How do I measure my door thickness correctly?
Measure the full thickness of the door leaf at the point where the handle will be installed — including any glazing panel, aluminium extrusion, composite layers or edge reinforcement. Do not measure the frame or architrave. For further guidance see Check Screen Door Clearance Before Fitting a Smart Lock and the five key measurements guide.

Additional Information

The McGrath Grange range offers two extension kits to cover the full range of thicker door constructions. This 52mm–75mm kit uses a single extended tail piece to bridge the additional depth — no separate connector bar is needed at this thickness range. For doors beyond 75mm, the 75mm–100mm kit with connector bar is the correct choice.

For a double-door or gate pair where both leaves are on thick doors, one kit is required per leaf. If you are also covering legacy fixing holes, see the Grange scar plate 900 x 75mm or 556 x 64mm options. For installation support on the Gold Coast, our site survey and installation service is available.
