Lockton E-Series Euro Smart Mortice Lock Body - Hinged Door - 45mm Backset - 240x22mm Faceplate

This Lockton E-Series euro mortice lock body suits hinged and swing-style doors. It is the internal lock mechanism installed inside the door when fitting a Lockton or McGrath smart lock to a standard mortice prep. The body contains the reversible latch and the euro cylinder-actuated deadbolt — the smart lock handle and keypad mount separately over the top and drive this body via an 8mm spindle.

Available with a 45mm backset, this body suits doors where the existing or planned mortice prep is at 45mm from the door edge to the centre of the spindle hole. The 240mm x 22mm faceplate fits flush into the standard mortice door edge channel. Lock centres are fixed at 85mm — the industry standard for this class of mortice body.

This mortice body is mechanically interchangeable with the McGrath Locks equivalent MLEM4585SS. If you have a McGrath smart lock and need to replace the mortice body, this Lockton part is a confirmed drop-in replacement at this backset.

Key Features

  • SS304 stainless steel latch and deadbolt — corrosion-resistant throughout
  • Reversible latch — field-adjustable for left-hand or right-hand swing doors without tools
  • 1.5mm thick SS304 steel case body — robust and dimensionally consistent
  • 8mm square spindle hub — accepts all standard Lockton and McGrath smart lock lever spindles
  • 85mm lock centres — matches the pinhole spacing on all Lockton E-Series and McGrath ML-A210, ML-A231, ML-A236, and ML-NX5 smart lock handles
  • Faceplate 240mm x 22mm x 3mm — standard mortice door edge channel fit
  • Deadbolt manually thrown by lifting the lever handle — no separate turn knob required
  • Meets ANSI/BHMA standards — 500,000-cycle tested; passes BHMA Level 2 and Level 3
  • CE marked
  • Supplied with strike plate, strike plate pocket, and fixing screws

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if 45mm is the right backset for my door?
Measure from the door edge to the centre of the existing spindle hole (or latch hole). If that distance is 45mm, this body is the correct size. If you are preparing a new mortice, the backset is determined by the position of the spindle hole in your smart lock handle set. See Chapter 02 — Measuring Your Door and our backset measurement guide for step-by-step instructions.
Will this body work with my McGrath smart lock?
Yes. The Lockton E-Series hinged door mortice bodies are compatible with the McGrath ML-A210, ML-A231, ML-A236, and ML-NX5 smart locks. They share 85mm lock centres and 8mm spindle hubs. The McGrath equivalent part number for this backset is MLEM4585SS.
Can I reverse the latch handing on site?
Yes. The latch is reversible and can be flipped in the field without tools to suit left-hand or right-hand swing doors. No separate handing version is required. See our door handing guide if you are unsure which handing applies to your door.
Is this a DIY install?
Installation of the mortice body into a pre-prepared door can be completed by a confident DIYer. However, if the door requires new mortice routing or the spindle alignment is off, a locksmith installation is recommended. Terry's offers supply and install on the Gold Coast — see our installation services page. Common DIY mistakes are covered in our installation troubleshooting guide.
Does the mortice body come with a smart lock or keypad?
No. This is the internal lock mechanism only — the body, latch, and deadbolt. The smart lock handle and keypad are sold separately. For a complete hinged door smart lock solution, see the Lockton ELEV36 E-Series Hinged Door smart lock, which includes the keypad lever set and is designed to pair with this body.

Additional Information

Why backset selection matters: Ordering the wrong backset is the most common installation error with mortice smart locks. The backset determines where the spindle sits relative to the door edge — if it does not match your handle set's spindle position, the deadbolt will throw at the wrong point or the latch bolt will not align with the strike. Measure twice before ordering. Our backset guide covers common standard sizes and how to check your existing prep.
Lockton and McGrath — same body geometry, different distributors: Lockton is distributed in Australia by Sieper Group; McGrath Locks are distributed by LSC. Despite this, the E-Series mortice bodies from both brands share the same internal engineering: 85mm lock centres, 8mm spindle hub, and standard euro cylinder slot. The practical difference is branding and the McGrath range's more limited backset selection. For installers who work with both brands, all Lockton bodies at backsets that have a McGrath equivalent are confirmed drop-in replacements. For further context on the TTLock platform that these mortice bodies pair with, see Chapter 14 — TTLock Platform Guide and Terry's perspective on the McGrath/LSC supply chain.
Installation template: A printable installation template for this mortice body range is available as a PDF download below. The template includes fold lines for each backset size — fold on the 45mm line before marking out your door. See also Chapter 12 — common backset installation mistakes.
Other backsets in this range: If 45mm is not the right fit for your door, the same body is available in these backsets: 25mm, 28mm, 30mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, 65mm, 70mm. For sliding and bifold doors, see the 28mm sliding door mortice body, 35mm, 20mm, and 45mm.

How to Make a Claim

For full returns and warranty claim procedures, visit our Returns & Warranty page — this is kept up to date and is the authoritative reference for current claim steps.

Lockton products are sold exclusively through trade channels. End-users who have received a Lockton product via an installer or trade supplier should contact their installer in the first instance — the trade supplier will liaise with Lockton Security to process the claim on your behalf.

To lodge a warranty claim through Terry’s Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries (including Gold Coast Smart Locks), please follow these steps:

  1. Contact us with details of the defect and, where possible, installation images.
  2. Supply your proof of purchase (invoice number or receipt).
  3. Provide contact details for claim updates.
  4. A Goods Return Number (GRN) will be obtained from Lockton Security on your behalf.
  5. Package the product securely, include the GRN, and return it as directed. Products returned without a GRN may not be accepted.

Once a correctly submitted claim is assessed by Lockton Security and approved, they will at their own cost and discretion either: repair and return the product; provide a replacement or similar product; supply refurbished goods of equivalent type and quality (covered under the remaining warranty period); or refund the purchase price. If the claim is not approved, Lockton Security will advise in writing and the product will be returned at the customer’s expense, or recycled upon request.

The Lockton warranty does not cover:

  • Environmental conditions outside product specifications (e.g. coastal air, high humidity, or exposure to corrosive substances)
