Häfele DL4000 Digital Deadbolt - Touchscreen with Key Override
The Häfele DL4000 is a digital deadbolt with a touchscreen PIN code keypad and mechanical key override. It replaces a standard deadbolt in an existing door bore and provides keyless PIN code access without requiring RFID credentials, fingerprint biometrics, or an app connection. It is a straightforward, standalone digital deadbolt suited to residential entry doors, secondary doors, and rental properties where a clean PIN-only solution is preferred.
The DL4000 operates on the Häfele Smart Living App platform (iOS and Android) via Zigbee protocol. Remote access features — including remote unlock, timed code management, and access history — are only available when the lock is paired with the Häfele Zigbee Gateway (Cat. 985.03.024, sold separately). Without a gateway, the lock operates fully as a standalone unit using its onboard touchscreen and mechanical key.
The DL4000 is available in two finishes: Satin Nickel (Cat. 912.05.192) and Black (Cat. 912.05.193). Select the required finish when adding to cart.

Häfele Smart Living App (Optional - Zigbee Gateway Required)
The DL4000 communicates using Zigbee wireless protocol. Remote access features - including remote unlock from anywhere, single-use and timed PIN code creation, access history review, and access authorisation management - are only available when the lock is paired with the Häfele Zigbee Gateway with Wi-Fi/USB Cable (Cat. 985.03.024, sold separately). The gateway connects to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and bridges the lock to the Häfele Smart Living App, available on iOS
and Android
.
Without a gateway, the DL4000 operates fully as a standalone deadbolt using its onboard touchscreen PIN code and mechanical key override. The gateway is only required when remote app features are part of the installation plan. For a guide to gateway options and how they work, see Chapter 08 - Gateway Comparison in the Smart Lock Buyer's Guide. To compare the Häfele Smart Living App against other smart lock app platforms, see Chapter 15 — Smart Lock App Platforms.
Frequently Asked Questions
In most cases, yes. The DL4000 requires a 54mm door bore hole and accepts an adjustable 60-70mm backset. If your existing deadbolt used a 54mm bore and a 60mm or 70mm backset, the DL4000 should fit without additional drilling. Confirm your existing bore hole size and backset measurement before ordering. See Chapter 02 - Measuring Your Door in the Smart Lock Buyer's Guide for guidance, or our dedicated backset measurement guide.
Yes. The DL4000 operates fully as a standalone digital deadbolt using its onboard touchscreen PIN code and mechanical key override. The Häfele Zigbee Gateway (Cat. 985.03.024, sold separately) is only required when you want to use Smart Living App features such as remote unlock, code management from anywhere, and access history.
Vacation mode temporarily deactivates all user PIN codes stored in the lock without deleting them. While vacation mode is active, the touchscreen will not accept any user codes - entry is only possible via the mechanical key. When you return, deactivating vacation mode restores all stored codes. This is useful when a property is unoccupied for an extended period, or when you want to prevent access during a tenant changeover without reprogramming the lock.
Before entering your PIN, the touchscreen displays 4 random digits that you tap first. These guiding digits are not part of your code and are ignored by the lock - only your actual PIN sequence unlocks the door. This prevents observers from identifying your code by watching which areas of the screen are touched, and reduces wear-pattern identification over time. It is equivalent to the scramble code function found on other digital locks.
The manufacturer brochure does not list fire door certification for the DL4000. If your installation involves a fire-rated door assembly, confirm current certification status with Häfele Australia before proceeding. For fire door installations, the Häfele Genesis DL8800 carries fire certification to AS1530.4 for E-Core and Firecore door assemblies and is the appropriate product in this range for fire-rated applications. See also: fire door types and smart lock certification and Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks.
Additional Information
The DL4000 requires a 54mm door bore hole, which is the standard Australian cylindrical deadbolt preparation. The adjustable 60-70mm backset accommodates a broad range of existing door hardware positions. If your existing door has a different bore hole size or backset, additional preparation will be required. Confirm both measurements before ordering. For help measuring, see Measuring Your Lock Backset on the Gold Coast Smart Locks blog.
The DL4000 stores up to 4 single-entry codes in addition to the 25 standard user codes. A single-entry code expires after one use - the code unlocks the door once, then is automatically deleted from the lock. This is useful for temporary access without needing to manage or delete codes manually afterwards, such as for a tradesperson or delivery.
The DL4000 is a PIN-only digital deadbolt. The DL8800 is an Australian mortice lever smart lock with PIN, RFID card/tag, fingerprint, fire door certification to AS1530.4, and DDA lever compliance to AS1428.1. Choose the DL4000 when PIN code and key override are sufficient, a deadbolt form factor is needed, and cost is a factor. Choose the DL8800 when multiple credential types, fire door compliance, DDA compliance, or more than 25 PIN codes are required. Both locks connect to the same Häfele Smart Living App via the same Zigbee Gateway (Cat. 985.03.024).
The DL4000 suits doors 35-51mm thick. Doors thinner than 35mm or thicker than 51mm are outside the manufacturer's specified range. Confirm your door thickness before ordering. Most Australian residential entry doors fall within the 35-45mm range. See Chapter 02 - Measuring Your Door for guidance on measuring door thickness accurately.
The C4 oval cylinder provides emergency access at all times, independent of battery status or app connectivity. For guidance on where to store the override key outside the property and how to access the lock when the battery is completely flat, see our guide to mechanical key override on smart locks. Understanding this before installation is important — most smart lock lockouts are battery-related, not electronic failures. See also The Realities of Electronic Door Locks for an honest assessment of battery life expectations.
The deadbolt's bolt throw — the distance the bolt extends when locked — is a meaningful security variable. A longer bolt projection offers greater resistance to door kick-in. Before specifying a deadbolt for a security-sensitive entry, see our guide to bolt throw and why it matters.

Important Notes
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. The benefits of this warranty are in addition to any other rights or remedies you may have under law.
- Repairs carried out under this warranty do not extend or reset the warranty period. The warranty period for any replacement parts fitted ends at the same time as the warranty for the entire product.
- Service call charges apply where a technician attends and the fault is found to be excluded by this warranty, or where the product is found to be in full operating condition — these costs are borne by the owner.
- Häfele offers ongoing service and maintenance agreements through their Service+ Assist program. Contact Häfele on 1300 185 044 or email customercare@hafele.com.au for details.
