The FORGE D5 Video Doorbell Smart Deadbolt (FESMLCKAL501A) combines a smart deadbolt, a video doorbell and a security camera: an always-on 2K camera with two-way talk and a PIR motion sensor, a fingerprint reader and touch keypad, and a key as the backup.
Wi-Fi is built in and it runs on the Tuya app: check the camera anytime, talk to visitors and unlock remotely from the app, and, per FORGE, use Alexa or Google voice commands to unlock. An indoor doorbell chime is included. It fits doors 35-55 mm thick with a 60 or 70 mm backset bolt, and runs on a 10,000 mAh battery pack that you charge off the door.
It is a deadbolt with no handle or latch - keep your existing lever or knob. FORGE also offers a matching passive knob (FEDRKNBBLKA), which we do not stock yet - ask us. For TTLock with a gateway, see the FORGE DBV1. Made in China for FORGE, an Australian brand based in Ringwood, Victoria, with FORGE's 2-year warranty.
Usually ships in 24 hours.
Owned by FORGE Electrical (Australia) · Manufactured in China. Our independent FORGE brand profile sets out how the range compares with the other brands we stock.
Access Methods
From the inside, turn the thumbturn or press the lock and unlock button on the inside unit.

Tuya App - Video Lock (Wi-Fi)
Charge the battery pack fully first - about 6 hours; the LED is red while charging and green when full (manual page 11). Set an administrator password at the lock, then in the Tuya app (iOS and Android ![]()
) choose Add Device, Camera / Lock and Video Lock (Wi-Fi), and pair over the lock's hotspot or a QR code on a 2.4 GHz network. Power-cycle the lock first - the pairing window is 120 seconds (manual page 13; manual page 15). The D5 pairs over Wi-Fi only, not Bluetooth.
Wi-Fi is built into the D5, so there is no gateway or bridge to buy. FORGE describes the camera as always on: open live view in the app at any time, talk to a visitor, get doorbell and motion alerts, record events to the cloud and play them back, and long-press to unlock remotely once Remote Unlock is switched on (manual page 17; manual page 18). FORGE's page also lists Alexa and Google voice commands to unlock - the D5 runs on the Tuya cloud as a video lock, unlike FORGE's Forge Smart locks, which do not support voice assistants. See doorbell cameras on TTLock and Tuya.
Which platform suits you is set out in our TTLock vs Tuya comparison and which smart lock platform is right for you. For a TTLock deadbolt with a camera and a gateway, see the DBV1.

Door Fit and Deadbolt
The D5 fits a standard deadbolt preparation: a 25 mm edge bore, a 38 or 54 mm cross bore through the door, and doors 35-55 mm thick. The bolt sets to a 60 or 70 mm backset - turn the faceplate 180 degrees for 70 mm, with TOP facing up (manual page 7). Fit the supplied spacer for a 38 mm cross bore (manual page 8). FORGE's guide places the lock about 10 cm above the handle (manual page 4).
- Door thickness - 35-55 mm. The A mounting screws suit 45-55 mm doors and the E screws 35-45 mm (manual page 9).
- Backset - 60 or 70 mm from the door edge to the centre of the bore (how to measure backset).
- Bores - 25 mm edge bore; 38 mm (with the spacer) or 54 mm cross bore.
- Handing - left or right handed doors; the lock checks its unlock direction when it powers up (manual page 11).
- Not sure? Send us a photo of the door edge and both faces (how to photograph a backset).

FORGE Smart Deadbolts
This product is the bold row. All three are deadbolts with no handle or latch - pair them with your existing lever or knob (deadbolt or latch).
Battery and Emergency Power
The D5 runs on a detachable 3.7 V, 10,000 mAh lithium battery pack (three 18650 cells) in the inside unit. It does not charge on the door - take the pack out and charge it with the supplied cable, about 6 hours (red while charging, green when full) (manual page 11). Below 25 percent the lock sounds a warning and the app sends a notification, and the camera is switched off to save power for the lock. The USB-C port on the outside panel is for emergency power only - it does not charge the pack (manual page 3); connect a power bank there, or use the key. More on what really affects battery life and power and battery FAQs.

Weather Rating - IP65 Outside Panel
FORGE rates the D5's outside panel IP65 against rain and dust; the inside unit is engineering plastic and stays indoors. Operating range -20 to 55 degrees C at 10-95% humidity, non-condensing. A porch or awning helps where the door takes the weather - read coastal environments and IP ratings explained.

Dimensions
FORGE gives no separate dimension drawing for the D5 - this fit guide is FORGE's own. Check the door thickness (35-55 mm) and backset before ordering.
Platform and Data
Platform. The D5 runs on the Tuya platform as a Wi-Fi video lock - added in the Tuya app, with Wi-Fi built in and no gateway. Camera events are recorded to the cloud, and FORGE lists Alexa and Google voice control.
Where your data goes. Tuya is a Chinese company headquartered in Hangzhou with regional data centres; by Tuya's own published country table, Australian accounts are provisioned to its Central Europe data centre, and there is no Australian data centre. With a camera on the door that is worth knowing - see where each smart lock platform hosts its data and data sovereignty in our TTLock vs Tuya comparison.
Installation
The D5 fits a standard deadbolt preparation: the bolt goes into the edge bore, the outside unit through the cross bore, and the inside unit onto a mounting plate with the data cable plugged in. The installation pages of the quick start guide show each step, and FORGE's guide says not to use an electric screwdriver (manual page 5).
- Set the bolt to 60 mm, or turn the faceplate 180 degrees for 70 mm, with TOP facing up; fit the strike plate and strike box in the jamb (manual page 7).
- Fit the outside unit through the cross bore - with the 38 mm spacer for a 38 mm bore - and run the wires through (manual page 8).
- Use the A mounting screws on 45-55 mm doors and the E screws on 35-45 mm doors; tighten by hand, then with a screwdriver (manual page 9).
- Tuck the wires in, mount the inside unit and check the bolt runs freely with the thumbturn before fitting the battery (manual page 10).
- Charge the pack fully, fit it and let the lock check its unlock direction at power-up (manual page 11).
- Terry's offers installation across the Gold Coast.
Which way a door is handed is explained in how to tell which way your door or gate opens.

Connect a power bank to the USB-C port on the outside panel, or use the key.
Installation and Troubleshooting
