FORGE KS1B Outdoor Smart Key Safe - IP66, Fingerprint, PIN, TTLock
At A Glance
(G5 Gateway)
The FORGE KS1B Outdoor Smart Key Safe (FEKS01T) is a weatherproof key box for handing over keys without being there. It opens with a fingerprint (up to 200), a passcode on its physical keypad (up to 150) or the TTLock app, and it is rated IP66. Mount it on a wall with the screws or adhesive pad supplied, or hang it from a handle, gate or railing on its removable shackle.
Passcodes can be time-limited, one-time, permanent or recurring - for guests, cleaners, trades or an agent's open inspection - and every opening is recorded in the app. The KS1B is a Bluetooth lock: at the box it works without the internet, and FORGE's optional G5 gateway adds remote unlocking, remote code changes and live records from anywhere.
It runs on 4 x AAA batteries for about 6-10 months, with a USB-C emergency power port underneath - there is no key override. Made in China for FORGE, an Australian brand based in Ringwood, Victoria, with FORGE's 2-year warranty.
Usually ships in 24 hours.
Owned by FORGE Electrical (Australia) · Manufactured in China. Our independent FORGE brand profile sets out how the range compares with the other brands we stock.
Access Methods
Until the first administrator is added in the app, any fingerprint opens the box and the default code is 123456 - pair it as soon as the batteries are in.

TTLock App
Set the KS1B up in the free TTLock app, available for iOS and Android ![]()
. Choose Australia as your location when you sign up, give the app full permissions and turn Bluetooth on (manual page 10). Then press any number on the box: when it asks you to add a Bluetooth administrator, add it in the app within 2 minutes (manual page 11). FORGE's TTLock pairing guide shows the general steps.
TTLock is one of the two global smart lock platforms - how it compares with Tuya is set out in our TTLock vs Tuya comparison, and the wider TTLock range in Chapter 14 - the TTLock hardware ecosystem. The app itself is covered in the TTLock app user manual.
Without a gateway the KS1B is managed over Bluetooth within about 5-10 metres. For many hosts that is enough: TTLock's generated passcodes can be created in the app and sent to a guest while you are away - see what a TTLock lock can do without Wi-Fi and the key box option for short stays. FORGE's page is clear that this is a Bluetooth lock and a gateway is needed for remote unlocking: add the FORGE TTLock G5 gateway to unlock, change codes and check records from anywhere (manual page 15; Bluetooth vs gateway in Chapter 14).

Using the Key Safe
- To open - enter your passcode and press #, or place an enrolled finger. When the box says unlocked, hold the unlock button on the side and lift the cover (manual page 8).
- To lock - close the cover. The box locks itself a few seconds after unlocking, and the delay can be changed in the app.
- The keypad - press any number to light it; # confirms and * deletes.
- The shackle - to take it off, pull the shackle lock towards the centre (manual page 9). Fit the seal plugs to the holes you are not using.
- Passage Mode - the app can hold it unlocked for set times (manual page 17; what passage mode does).
A key safe on the outside of a house is a common place to leave a car key. If the car has keyless entry, its fob can be read through a key box - keep it in a signal-blocking pouch inside the safe. See the relay attack risk and the RFID signal-blocking wallet.

Suitable Uses
- Short-stay rentals - send a guest a time-limited code and keep a record of every opening (managing several properties; the key box option).
- Real estate agents and property managers - one-time codes for open inspections, trades and tenants.
- Building sites and trades - time-restricted codes for a crew, without handing over a key.
- A spare house key for family, carers or a dog walker - with a fingerprint for the regulars.
- Holiday homes and beach houses - a surf-style key box with a code instead of a combination dial (how a key lock box works).
- Cash, jewellery or valuables - it is a key box, not a safe.
- Car keys with keyless entry, unless kept in a signal-blocking pouch (relay attack risk).
- Card access - not confirmed on the KS1B; ask us first.
- A spot that takes direct salt spray or sits under water - IP66 covers general outdoor conditions.
- Anyone who wants a key override - there is none; the USB-C port is the backup.
Available Finish Options
Black
(This Product)
STK FEKS01T
The KS1B comes in black, with a green status light across the front.
FORGE Smart Key Safes
This product is in bold. The K5 runs on the Tuya app and adds an RFID card reader and mechanical keys; the KS1B runs on TTLock, with FORGE's G5 gateway for remote access, and has no key.
Accessories and Spares
FORGE also names its DB2 video doorbell, which has a TTLock gateway built in, as a remote route - ask us if you want one. Other gateways are in the modules and Wi-Fi gateways category, and more key boxes in key storage.
Battery and Emergency Power
The KS1B runs on 4 x AAA alkaline batteries behind the cover, rated by FORGE at about 6-10 months depending on use. When roughly 50 to 100 operations remain it warns you - replace all four then (manual page 9). If the batteries go flat the box stays locked: connect a power bank to the USB-C emergency port on the bottom with a USB A-to-C cable, open the box with your code or fingerprint, and fit new batteries. The port powers the lock for opening only - it does not charge the batteries. There is no key override, so do not leave it until the box is completely flat. More on what really affects battery life and power and battery FAQs.

Weather Rating - IP66
FORGE rates the KS1B IP66 - dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets - for general outdoor conditions, with a working range of -10 to 55 degrees C and 0-95% humidity. FORGE recommends a rain cover where the box is fully exposed, and its non-warranty disclaimer excludes water getting in beyond IP66 and normal wear (non-warranty disclaimer). Fit the seal plugs to whichever holes you are not using. On the coast, rinse salt off now and then - keeping a key box working on the coast and IP ratings explained.
FORGE KS1B - Technical Specifications
Dimensions
FORGE does not give the internal size. If you need to store a large bunch of keys or a bulky car fob, send us its size and we will check it fits.
Platform and Data
Platform. The KS1B runs on TTLock - Bluetooth to your phone, with the TTLock G5 gateway for remote access. Remote unlock and remote code changes need the gateway; at the box it works without the internet.
Where your data goes. TTLock is run by Sciener, a Chinese company. Accounts outside China use TTLock's out-of-China servers; where that infrastructure is hosted, and which region Australian accounts use, is not published - in short, a Chinese company's servers, location unpublished. For the platform-by-platform picture see where each smart lock platform hosts its data, and for TTLock's security record see Chapter 14 - TTLock security.
Installation
Decide how you will use it before fitting the batteries: on a wall, or portable on its shackle. The installation section of the manual covers both.
- Open the cover: after unlocking, hold the unlock button on the side and lift it (manual page 4). From new, any fingerprint or the default code 123456 opens it.
- Portable: plug the wall-mount screw holes with their seal plugs, then fit the shackle and its seal plugs through the top (manual page 5).
- Wall: plug the shackle holes, then fix the box with the four screws and wall plugs, or the adhesive pad on a clean, dust-free surface (manual page 6).
- Fit 4 x AAA batteries and close the cover (manual page 7).
- Add a Bluetooth administrator straight away - press any number and pair it in TTLock within 2 minutes (manual page 11).
- Choose a spot out of direct weather if you can; FORGE recommends a rain cover where it is fully exposed. Terry's offers installation across the Gold Coast.
Where to put a key box, and other ways to use one, are covered in how a key lock box works and other uses. For a Bluetooth key safe alongside smart padlocks, see the Bluetooth key safe.

FORGE KS1B Outdoor Smart Key Safe - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide
Everything below is here to help you choose, fit, set up and live with the FORGE KS1B. For general smart lock questions see our Smart Lock FAQ (Chapter 13), and for measuring and fitting the Buyer's Guide.
Using the Key Safe
Enter your passcode and press #, or place an enrolled finger. When it says unlocked, hold the unlock button on the side and lift the cover (manual page 8).
Yes - a few seconds after unlocking. The delay can be changed in the app, and Passage Mode can hold it unlocked for set times.
Pull the shackle lock towards the centre and lift the shackle out, then fit the seal plugs to its holes if you are wall-mounting (manual page 9).
FORGE does not give the internal size. The body is 133.8 x 72.9 x 49 mm - send us the size of your keys or fob and we will check.
Codes and Fingerprints
Time-limited (used once within 24 hours of the start time, then any time in the period), one-time (used within 6 hours), permanent and recurring, 4-9 digits (manual page 12; Chapter 14 - passcode types).
Press the finger firmly on the sensor several times when prompted, moving it slightly each time. Avoid wet fingers, and register the same finger twice for older users with flatter prints.
A duress fingerprint - registered like any other, but when it is used the administrator receives an alarm notification (manual page 13).
An eKey gives another TTLock account the right to unlock - time-limited, one-time, permanent or recurring - with options for remote unlock, an unlock link that works without the app, or near-administrator rights (manual page 14; TTLock eKeys).
Not confirmed - FORGE's KS1B manual and highlights list fingerprint, passcode and app only. Ask us before relying on cards.
After five wrong attempts in a row the box ignores all input for 90 seconds, and the keypad goes back to sleep after 20 seconds without use.
Remote Access and the G5 Gateway
Only to unlock it, change codes or see records while you are away. TTLock's generated passcodes can be created and sent without it. FORGE's page notes a gateway is needed for remote unlock - what a gateway actually does and the G5 explained.
Indoors within Bluetooth range of the box, on a 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network - the closer the better, with as few walls between as possible (gateway placement). A key safe on an outside wall usually needs the gateway on the inside of that wall.
Yes - FORGE offers the FORGE TTLock Bluetooth remote as an add-on for the KS1B.
Power and Batteries
About 6-10 months on 4 x AAA alkaline cells, depending on use. It warns you when roughly 50 to 100 operations remain.
The box stays locked. Connect a power bank to the USB-C port on the bottom with a USB A-to-C cable, open it with your code or fingerprint, and fit new batteries. The port does not charge them (manual page 17).
Installation and Troubleshooting
Press the reset button under the battery cover, then enter 000# when prompted (manual page 16). This returns it to the default code 123456.
Not beyond IP66. FORGE's disclaimer limits the rating to general outdoor conditions and recommends a rain cover where the box is fully exposed (manual page 18).
