Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 49425 and the 49429?
The 49425 is a sliding door mortice with dual locking bolts, a 28 mm backset, and a 270 x 22 mm faceplate - designed for sliding glass doors and aluminium hinged doors with a shallow backset. The 49429 is a standard entrance mortice with a 60 mm backset and a 240 x 22 mm faceplate, suitable for standard hinged timber or aluminium doors. If your door has a 60 mm backset, the 49429 is the correct choice. See our guide to measuring backset if you are unsure.
Can the 49425 be used with any digital lever other than the 59407?
The 49425 is confirmed by Austyle for use with the 59407 digital lever only. It is not listed as compatible with the 59405 or 59406 lever sets, which use the 49429 entrance mortice. Do not assume interchangeability - confirm the correct mortice for your specific lever set before ordering.
Does this include the digital lever or any other hardware?
No. This product is the mortice lock body only. The 59407 digital lever set is sold separately and includes the electronic lever assembly, keypad, and fixings. The 59407 product page lists the 49425 as an optional add-on mortice.
What are dual locking bolts and why do sliding doors need them?
Sliding doors move laterally rather than swinging on a hinge, so they require a mortice with locking bolts that engage into the door frame at multiple points to resist lateral force and lifting. The dual bolt configuration of the 49425 is suited to this application. A standard single-bolt entrance mortice like the 49429 is designed for hinged door installations where the bolt engages into a strike plate on the door frame edge.
Additional Information
The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the centre of the spindle hole. On a sliding door this is typically shallower than on a hinged door - 28 mm is standard for most aluminium sliding door profiles. See our guide to measuring your lock backset before ordering if you are unsure.
The Austyle catalogue also lists mortice code 49421 as a 304SS standard 30 mm backset option for the 59407 lever on standard aluminium hinged doors. This product is shown in the locking options image above. If you require the 49421, contact us directly as it may not be listed on the store as a standalone product.
