McGrath Keyed to Differ Cylinder - Suits X3 Deadbolt - 2 Keys Included

This McGrath replacement key-override cylinder is the mechanical barrel that provides the backup key entry on the McGrath X3 Digital Deadbolt (MLAX3 series). It lets you unlock the deadbolt with a physical key if the batteries are flat or the electronics are unavailable, so the lock is never solely dependent on power.

Supplied keyed to differ (KTD): this cylinder operates on its own unique key combination, independent of any other lock.

The cylinder is supplied complete with 2 keys. This is a replacement cylinder only - it does not include the deadbolt assembly or any electronics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this include the deadbolt?
No. This is the replacement key-override cylinder only, supplied with 2 keys. It fits into your existing X3 deadbolt.
What does keyed to differ mean?
Keyed to differ (this cylinder) means the barrel has its own unique key, independent of any other lock. Keyed alike would mean matched cylinders share one common key. Choose keyed to differ when the deadbolt should have its own separate key.
Can I cut extra keys?
Yes. A locksmith can cut additional keys from the matching McGrath key blank. See the McGrath X3 key blank for the correct blank profile.
Why would I replace the override cylinder?
Common reasons are lost keys (re-key for security), a worn or stiff barrel, or wanting a fresh, uncompromised key set. Background on how the override fits into a smart lock is in the authentication stack overview.

Additional Information

  • The mechanical override is the layer that keeps a smart deadbolt usable when the battery is flat. Keeping a working override cylinder and a spare cut key is good practice - the override guide covers what to do when the battery is completely dead.
  • Keyed to differ means this X3 barrel carries its own unique key, independent of any other lock in the building.
  • Cylinder replacement is a straightforward locksmith task; the barrel is retained within the deadbolt and does not require replacing the whole lock.
  • If you would rather not store the spare key indoors, the override guide also covers secure key hiders for outdoor storage.
