McGrath Key Blank - Suits Hamilton Lock - LW5 Profile

This McGrath key blank suits the mechanical override cylinder on the McGrath Hamilton smart lock, using the LW5 key profile. It gives you a spare key path for the Hamilton so the mechanical override is always available if the batteries go flat or the electronics need bypassing.

It is supplied as an uncut blank and must be cut by a qualified locksmith to match your original Hamilton key. Bring your existing key (or the lock's key code) to your locksmith so the blank can be cut to the correct bitting.

This product is a key blank only. It does not include a lock, a cylinder, or a pre-cut key.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a working key or a blank?
It is an uncut blank. It has the correct LW5 profile to enter the Hamilton cylinder, but it must be cut to your key's bitting by a locksmith before it will operate the lock. For background on the mechanical override path and where the Hamilton keyhole sits, see Mechanical Key Override on Smart Locks.
How do I get it cut?
Take the blank and your existing Hamilton key to any locksmith and ask for it to be cut to copy. If you do not have an original key, the lock will need to be read or the cylinder decoded - your locksmith can advise. Terry's can cut to code where a valid code is supplied.
Will this blank suit my other McGrath lock?
No - it is the LW5 profile for the Hamilton only. Each McGrath model uses its own profile. Pick the matching blank from the key blank family table above for Windsor, Albion, Ascot, X3, NX1, NX5, NX6, A210, A231 or A236.
Why would I need a spare key for a smart lock?
The mechanical key is the backup that gets you in if the batteries die or the electronics fault. Keeping a cut spare (and a blank ready to cut) means you are never locked out. See what to do when the battery dies and safe key storage.

Additional Information

Cut Before You Need It
A blank only helps in an emergency if it has already been cut. The best practice is to have this blank cut to a spare now and store it somewhere accessible but secure, so a flat battery never becomes a lockout. See Mechanical Key Override - Key Storage.
Hamilton is a Fire-Rated, DDA Model
The Hamilton is McGrath's fire-rated, DDA-compliant lock, commonly specified for accessible and fire-door applications. For where it fits, see Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks and Chapter 09 - DDA, NDIS & Accessibility. Related Hamilton hardware: spindle kit for 100mm doors and Hamilton scar plates.
